Have been waiting to go here since Karena and team have taken over...ate here 20 years ago but today absolutely smashed it. Did the $80 feed me option ( 4 shared entree's, a beautifully cooked steak, side salad duck fat roasted potatoes, and two magnificent desserts) Service was exceptional, venue lovely and food and drink sublime. Treat yourself to a few different Gins and of course the great range of reds from the cellar...we certainly did. Can't wait to go again.

Four of us (all adults) enjoyed a wonderful lunch. The menu is creative, with great sauces and presentation, and the wine list is interesting and extensive, including a number of regional and global wines by the glass. The staff are friendly, knowledgable and attentive (the best we have experienced in a long time) and the cost was reasonable. When there was a minor problem with one of our dishes it was whipped away and rectified in minutes. Lastly, this restaurant is popular and busy, and being busy often comes with noise. One of us has hearing difficulty and the staff immediately seated us in a quiet area. Overall the ambience is cheerful and friendly rather than sleek and pretentious. This was without doubt the best restaurant of the many we tried in the region and beyond.

Went here for dinner and could not fault this restaurant. Chef Matt provided us Octopus, pork and T-bone steak all cooked to perfection. Each dish was so incredibly tender; the best we’ve ever eaten. The waitresses are friendly and the dessert recommendation of almond meringue was spot on! With their menu changing each season you’re getting the best fresh produce available. Needless to say my husband and I have found ‘our’ restaurant. We will return here time and time again.

Food and service was not as expected. The octopus starter was over seasoned and very salty. We let the waitress know but there was no mention of looking into it or an apology. We ordered the starters to share and we were not provided with separate bowls, our plates weren’t changed either and the sauces were mixed. The mains were fine, however, didn’t expect the strong Asian style with pointed fusion flavours. The pork fat in the pancake was not rendered either. The food took a while to come out as well. The only good thing was that the waitress always had a smile throughout.

We ordered the degustation menu here for $85 per person. While the food was quite tasty it was very poor value and was $40 more than ordering the same dishes a la carte. When we raised it with the waitress at the end their response was to say 'we are sorry you feel that way' and offered only a $30 voucher to visit again. We declined and paid the bill in full but won't be visiting again. If you do decide to go definately so not order the degustation menu unless you feel like providing the business with a $40 extra tip for no reason.

My husband and I were extremely excited about lunching at The Salopian Inn, we had read some impressive reviews and the menu looked impressive. The first disappointment was being seated in a corner in a room which had no windows. The two entrees we ordered were Asian inspired, a squid salad and prawn dumplings. The squid was beautiful and served with the freshest salad full of delicious Asian flavours. The prawn dumplings were over powered with a heavily reduced sauce and showered with copious amounts of white pepper. One dumpling each was ample as the flavours were strong. My husband ordered the rump for his main which lacked flavour and was not the prettiest presentation. I ordered the gnocchi, a favourite of mine so I have had experienced a few amazing ones in my time. This was a hugely underwhelming dish. Lacking flavour, presentation sloppy and I was unable to eat it as I really disliked it. Watery tomatoey mess is how I would sum it up. We had very little attention from the waitress and after the main we were left for some time and not offered a dessert menu. Off to the beach for an ice cream for our dessert and we won’t return and will not recommend to anyone who is looking for a decent meal in the lovely McClaren Vale wine region.

Rainy Tuesday lunch it was busy. We chose the tasting menu at $85 a head. It seemed they just put bits of the a la carte as it was a very odd mix of dishes. Asian then Eastern European as starters. The pork bun was too heavy and stodgy in a tasting menu and same can be had at Chinese in central market. The palate cleanser sorbet was ordinary. The mains -fish and beef -were brought together so by the time we ate the beef, after the fish, it was not just cold but tough Chewy and grisly. We commented and returned half, it was suggested we should have been given steak knives as if that were the problem! .an alternative main was offered and $20 taken off the final bill. Only one dessert was Served delicious but nothing gourmet about it. In a tasting menu I’d expect two smaller Special desserts as I cook similar weekly. We wouldn’t recommend.

After a stressful Monday tasting wines at a few local wineries we opted to have lunch here. We were tempted to try the $80 per head tasting menu but thought 4 entrees, 1 main and 1 dessert might be too much and we were right! We just managed our 1 entree of zucchini flowers, 2 mains of lamb and rump and a side salad which were to die for. We saw a few other diners opt for the tasting menu and while the food looked amazing we know we wouldn’t have been able to fit it all in. Either way, bring your appetite because the portions are generous and delicious.

We were recommended here by some friends who love the area - and wow, we were not disappointed. The service was exceptional, the advice on which Gin might suit which palet was spot on, and we enjoyed going downstairs to choose wine for our lunch. Food - well, delicious. Kangaroo tail was scrumptious, deep and rich in flavour, as were the prawn dumplings - they certainly dont skimp on size of meals, so once again.... we over ordered and over ate!! I will certainly be back again if we are in the area. Also.... the fig tree out the front is wonderful, I enjoyed one of the figs for my following morning breakfast.....

Made a last-minute booking for lunch and thank goodness we did. On a Tuesday ! Within 15 minutes of our arrival the place was packed. The sourdough bread and biodynamic butter is always a great complimentary starter. We asked Alex to recommend a gin (36 short - blood orange, chilli and thyme) and a Beechworth Pale Ale beer hit the spot. The main courses are huge so we opted to skip the much admired pork buns and selected the Charcoal Grilled Beef (this had Kefta texture and flavour), Lime Leaf & Chilli Skewers, Tamarind Hollandaise, Roti & Garden Pickles which suited a glass of Paxton Quandong Farm Shiraz. The other dish was Smoked Boston Bay Pork & Kim Chi Pancake, Roman Beans, Roast Pumpkin, Sweet Corn, Fried Onion, Coconut Hoisin Dressing, Sweet & Salty Peanuts. Fabulous individual flavours that complimented each other perfectly. And shared Steamed Mixed Greens & Almond Butter; Lard Roasted Potatoes, Rosemary, Lemon & Kitchen Garden Salt. Deserts looked great, but we had to get out of our chairs at some stage. Excellent coffee to finish. To go with the food, friendly, timely service.

We had the $85 Feed Me menu and every dish was amazing, except for the Kangaroo Tartare but that’s more about me than the dish, my wife loved it. The Rump was cooked to perfection and the ice cream sandwich was a perfect finish. It’s one of the more expensive meals we’ve ever had but left happy with what we had. If there was a downside it was the selection of white wines, no Sauvignon Blanc for example. Service was friendly and engaging, we had a lot of fun and it didn’t feel too stuffy.

We had the “taste/trust” me menu for $85p/p which showcased the food on the al la carte menu. This option is highly recommended but make sure you are hungry!. Plenty of wine by the glass or reasonably priced bottles in their own cellar. Service was excellent. Booking would be recommended. Plus the Spotify play list had us shazaming a lot of tunes.

Great spot, among the vines and nearby wineries. Two couples for a long lunch catch up. We all ordered the $85 tasting menu comprising 4 shared entres, two mains and dessert. Combined with a bot of red & white we enjoyed a tasty selection. Struggled to get through it all. Nice ambience, great selection of very local wines and overall a comfortable and well serviced lunch.

Go there if you feel like paying $ 32 for a bland and tasteless meat pie. Almost felt like asking for tomato sauce to get some flavour. Service was ok, quality of food very disappointing.

We had read about this place in the UK Telegraph so booked it for lunch well in advance of our trip to McLaren Vale. We were not dissapointed. The location is just a short dive out of the town , set among vines and wineries as far as the eye can see. Very attentive and engaged servers and the food was some of the best we have had anywhere. Steamed dumplings were unbelievably good and had I known I'd have had them for starters and main! As it was, I had the smoked lamb ribs which were also very good. The place was buzzing and might be a little noisy for some, but I think we had particularly noisy and somewhat foul mouthed diners next to us. If you like Gin that have hundreds and the list ran to 4 full pages just for the local varieties before you even got to the global brands. If you are staying in McLaren vale this place is an absolute must, but make sure to book early.
