The staff here have perfected the art of blending friendliness, knowledge and professionalism to make us feel welcome and at ease. The setting has a beautiful relaxed McLaren Vale vibe. Now for the food and wine: they both matched the already high standard of the staff and setting. We opted for the 3 course lunch with paired wines and chose 3 different dishes each. Each one was an amazing balance of complex and vibrant flavours, difficult to choose a favourite - but the pork belly stood out for me. The wine pairings were expertly done and was well worth doing. Thanks to the team at the Currant Shed for an outstanding birthday meal!

I was so impressed with my birthday lunch was at The Currant Shed in McLaren Flat because they were so good with food intolerances. When I booked they asked if anyone in the party had any allergies and intolerances and they noted these down. When we arrived and were seated the waiting staff had a list of the intolerances already with them and they went through the menu explaining which dishes were fine for me or which could be adapted. I am so used to restaurants not listening when I specifically ask for no onion on salad (just one example of one intolerance I have) and then the salad comes out covered in onion. Or they list all 15 ingredients in a dish on the menu (lulling you into a false sense of security) but when the dish arrives onion is a major ingredient (yet not mentioned on the menu). It was such a pleasure to be so well looked after with food intolerances and it was no drama or fuss for them - they were so eager to please (and a pleasure to have a meal out and not feel sick a few hours later). All the food we had at The Currant Shed was outstanding too! Lots of little extras too like celery and vodka granita as a palette cleanser between courses, complimentary appetisers that were crazy good, amazing freshly baked sourdough bread, and a scoop of coconut sorbet at the end of the meal. Excellent friendly service! The location was also beautiful with the views of grape vines, lemon trees, and gumtrees. Highly recommend this place!

We spend a very enjoyable evening at the Currant Shed. The staff are well versed and experienced in food and wine and friendly, the food was mouthwatering, sourcing amazing local product chosen by the chef as part of a 4 course or 8 course experience, the atmosphere and ambiance were both relaxing and romantic. We choose the 4 course menu (goats curd and goats cheese, rocket, 3 types of melon and prosciutto, 2nd course was zucchini and basil pesto, main course, lamb, rhubarb, fennel and potato, and to finish off with apricot, basil and jellies, plus tasters to start, home baked bred and chickpea slice (GF) with butter and shiraz salt, watermelon and strawberry cleanser) which filled us to the brim. We would highly recommend this wonderful restaurant and cannot wait to visit again next time we are in the Region for another wonderful experience.

Has always been a good restaurant. Passed by for lunch with friends. Food was shockingly great. There is an incredible Murray cod dish where the cod is diced to the point where you think they forgot to put it in the dish but the flavor; superb. Others have the steak, the seafood blend and the pork offering. Not a complaint to be heard. In fact, just heaps of praise. And the service! Each dish is served with an enthusiastic explanation. The menu is prix fixe with an unexpected starter and a concluding palate cleanser.

Could not have chosen a better place for a special celebration. Wonderful situation and atmosphere. Staff welcoming, attentive and informative. Food creative and delicious. Butter served with our bread rolls should be sold in tubs.

We attended The Current Shed on Wednesday 30 Jan for the fixed price lunch menu. Originally we had planned to do the degustation dinner however some friends wanted to meet us for lunch. Such a lovely venue and superb knowledgeable staff. We were given ‘Amuse Bouche’, tiny morsels of gorgeousness to start, the chefs way of wetting our appetite and these were delicious. Then came warm bread rolls and creamy butter. The two courses were either entree and main or main and dessert and we all had the former. The entree of pork belly was also a delight and a good size too. I then opted for the seafood dish in coconut which was a good size serving however to me was way too much coconut cream and I found it quite sickly. Overall, a good experience, however not really value for money at $65 each and way too much food for me at lunchtime. I will go back and try the dinner!

Absolutely delicious food in an unpretentiousness comfortable environment, starting with lovely smiling and accomodating servers, with the most fabulous warm rolls, locally churned butter and purple/wine salt! A friend and I had 3 courses and our standouts were the Kingfish appetizer, the Kangaroo (cooked so perfectly with such a delicious wine jus) and the phenomenal Peanut dessert which brought back the childhood flavours of eating an “ants on a log”.. who would have thought that peanut & celery & vodka and chocolate would all go so well together in this level of modern dining. Everything was beautiful including the surprise snacks and pallet cleanser, and the nice touches such as the wooden butter knife and the handmade pottered coffee cups were special as well. Attentive service was appreciated such as our bottle of sparkling table water was instantly refilled without having to request. Will definitely be going back and recommending this restaurant. Well worth our 40 minute drive, but would love to spend a night in the Vale and have more matching wines next time, and would try the Seafood with succulents as that looked and sounded fabulous as well. Lovely vineyard location as well and a garden on site where they grow many of their own fresh ingredients.

Only went as we were given a voucher as a gift. However it turned into a great experience. There is not a lot of choice on the menu but the meals we ate were terrific. The thought, presentation and tastes were sublime. The salads were very fresh. The meal sizes were perfect for lunchtime dining for us. Along with the entrees and mains we ordered we received complimentary before and after meal tastes along with bread rolls straight out of the oven and house churned butter. The wine list favoured local wineries but we wanted a reisling. The wine list also offered wines from other regions and had a good selection. To top it off, a pretty location. A pity they only do lunches, but we will go back.

We had an excellent lunch. Pork belly and kingfish dishes for starters, lamb and rhubarb and sardines with quinoa salad for mains. Fresh ingredients, some home grown, and lovely flavours. An added bonus were the complementary amuse bouches and zucchini cakes to finish. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu. Would definitely recommend and return if we were in the area again.

Christmas present treat from our family for a 6 course chef's selection & wine pairing at Current Shed (Gift Voucher). What a fantastic and delightful lunch afternoon at McClaren Vale savoring the fine food and wine in a beautiful relaxing environment. All the dishes were wonderfully presented and a gusto to enjoy accompanied with beautiful wines to compliment. Customer service and customer care is exceptional and I can highly recommend a visit for a leisurely lunch. If you stay in McClaren Vale it is imperative that you visit Current Shed for a lazy lunch date.

We spent Sunday afternoon at the Currant Shed. Perfect location, perfect food, perfect service. We had friends staying from out of town and the staff at Currant Shed made us feel right at home with friendly service and a private spot. Our children (3 years and 12 years old) were well catered for as were adult dietary requirements. The food was delicious and our server’s knowledge was extensive and her sense of humour was appreciated. The extra touches like vegan friendly menu modifications and currant tasting from the vine above our table all made for a memorable afternoon. Thank you so much to our waitress Hannah and all the staff at the Currant Shed.

This was our fourth visit to the Currant Shed and once again it was fabulous. The service is perfect - special attention is paid to any dietary requirements and even the complimentary appetizers are tailored to ensure any preferences are catered for. The staff know the menu very well and are able to provide expert advice. The food is sublime - regional produce cooked to perfection. A relatively small menu but the chef is very capable of tweaking to suit individual requirements. The setting and atmosphere is typical McLaren Vale beauty. If you are a visitor and love good food put this at the top of your list. We are lucky enough to be locals and we will be back!

What an absolutely fantastic venue! One of our group had heard a great review, but the experience blew any expectations out of the water. Right from making the booking when we were asked about dietary needs (one of the group had some) through to the warm reception on arrival, we were very impressed. The day only got better. The wine selection was broad enough to cater to the group, but the food, oh the food! Making my mouth water again thinking about it. The entree was delicious (how you get pork that sticky defies belief), and the main was to die for. Dessert scored a consistent hat trick (and the cheeky post dessert tidbit was gorgeous). Word of warning: you will want more bread. You will, just accept it. Don't. Do. It. You will need the room for the VERY generous serves.😉 the staff were very nice to roll us to our car.... thanks for that. Do your tastebuds a favour and get to the shed. Still drooling.... Mike

We had a group of 6 and enjoyed the 2 course menu and then shared some desserts between us. The size of the meals were substantial and I struggled to get through my main. A stark contrast to many up market restaurants where the portion sizes are tiny. The flavours were well balanced and the utilised their own, and the local produce, very well. The experience was matched by some of the friendliest, most attentive and informative service we could have wished for by a young girl called Hannah. Overall, a fabulous experience which we would highly recommend.

The Currant Shed has a beautiful setting and outlook over the vines or the nearby hills. The staff are excellent and friendly. The chef is certainly one of the most creative and the food quality and presentation is one of the best in South Australia (and beyond!). Last week was my second visit and was as impressive as my first. My first visit was for a multiple course vegan experience and it was stunning with beautiful presentations, fresh food and wonderful flavors and colors for all of the courses. Last week was my second visit with a group of 5 and we chose a 2 course menu. WOW! It wasn't just 2 course - we were delighted to be provided with some unexpected appetisers, a sorbet and a chocolate finish as well. Again stunning presentation, fresh food and beautiful flavours. Between all of us we selected most main courses and entres. I haven't attached photos of all dishes, just enough to illustrate some of the beautiful food. Sorry chef, your secrets are out!
