Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are steak sandwiches and then there is the Kitchen Door steak sandwich. Possibly the best I’ve ever had. Great view from the restaurant. Friendly staff. The pasta dish is also recorded. Pop over to the tasting area to sample wines before you dine.

We had a birthday lunch and extensive wine tasting. Monika gave great service for food. The food was really really good. A small but effective menu. Luke was fantastic and gave us lots of attention and great knowledge during the tastings. Ended up spending a decent sum of money on wine no doubt helped by his friendly service. Had a great few hours at Penny's Hill. We were treated like we were friends. Will definitely return. Thanks Monika and Luke

I have eaten here several times over the last 3-4 years. The food has always been amazing. Obviously a great wine list to compliment. Will always come here. Just wish they'd go back in the entertainment book!

Delicious luncheon thoroughly enjoyed by 4 of us. The food was fantastic - divine Atlantic salmon with panzanella salad, and the staff so friendly and helpful. Can't wait to return

The food was delicious and there is an open grass area for kids to run around with out disturbing other guest but still within clear sight. Makes for a relaxing parents lunch as much as it ever can be with young kids.

Friendly, helpful and humorous, chatty staff. Delicious lunch menu. Seafood or steak both melt in your mouth. Washed down with superb, not yet released Shiraz. Stunning rural outlook over the meadow’s natural wooden fences to the picturesquely shaped trees, while Suffolk sheep quietly graze. Mouthwatering pane cote and chocolate stunner to close. Lingering flavours and memories. Love it!

Had lunch here and had the chicken saltimboca, twice baked cheese soufflé and side of greens. Each dish was carefully and thoughtfully constructed to make a perfectly balanced plate. Really great option for Mclaren Vale. Excellent sophisticated food for great price compared to other options around of same caliber. Beautiful view from glass walls of wines and sheep.

There aren't many restaurants where you can have fabulous food and wine whilst watching a flock of sheep graze...absolute bliss.

Some of the restaurants in the area can be quite pricey but this is one of the restaurants offering really good value. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and responsive even though it was busy. There was a lovely range of dishes on the menu and it's a great place to spend an hour or two over lunch.

Great place to visit. Wine tasting and restaurant. Moderately priced. The best steak sandwich ever. Cooked to perfection. We had a vegan with us and she enjoyed her meal and said it was very tasty. Two other dishes were had and they were also tasty. Wine tasting is handy to try before you buy a bottle for the table. Very nice fresh white wines. Service was great, a, ambiance, pleasant surrounds and decor. Highly recommend for an afternoon lunch with friends.

We chose Penny's Hill vineyard for a tasting because it was lunchtime, without knowing we were in for a real treat. We chose entrees to share and had superb dishes we couldn't fault. We first had our tasting and chose our wines to have with lunch. There weren't many other diners and service was very good. The countryside views of gums, sheep and vines were charming. I'd love to return to The Kitchen Door.

We arrived at 12.30 and received our entree 5 minutes after we ordered at 12.50, almost as it was waiting for us, then the wait began. As the restaurant filled with other diners, and we watched as they received their entree & mains. When we finally got the attention of someone we were told she looked at the time on the docket and she didn't think we had waited too long .By 2pm , over 1 hr after entree a young girl finally told us it would only be another 5 minutes. What a shame, by then we were over the whole experience and just wanted to leave. When the food finally came, both mains were very nice but a side of Broccolini was only just cooked and came 5 minutes after the mains. We were not in a rush at all, and it sounds as if we timed everything, but the lack of understanding and attention spoiled an anniversary & birthday lunch, and to be honest there are so many other places to choose from we will not be eating here again.

Food is excellent and so are the wines. Open and scenic location with loads of parking and easy to find. Ate on a wine tour initially and there was a bit of an issue which we raised and their response was absolutely first class. 5/5 for customer service.

My friends and I had lunch here and had no idea that such a lovely afternoon was ahead of us when we arrived. It was abit breezy on the verandah where I had requested a table so we asked to be seated inside. That was no trouble to them and they happily obliged. It is not a cheap place to eat but we were treated to some amazing courses and their delicious wines too. There were not complaints and we felt extremely lucky to have had such a fabulous lunch there. We are planning another day out and hope to play boules on the lawn and sample the gins available for tasting. (We only discovered them on the way to the car!) The staff all seem very proud of the place they work and what their restaurant and winery offers. Well done!
