Been coming to Hahndorf for years.Always had a drink here before venturing out for dinner. This time we had a meal on table 31 which it will be our last.Meals had no taste, came out warm,One meal came out wrong. No table service, expensive.
This is the worst review...I have given. It sadens me as its in my own stateMore
Very friendly staff. We were given a private room, due to the size of our group.
Food came out quickly, and everyone enjoyed their selection.
Car parking at rear was a real asset as Hahndorf was very busy..even though it was a Wednesday!
Had lunch here recently and can’t say enough, staff were great, very friendly and the meals were nice and well priced. Normally a buffet here, but COVID wrecked that, still the a la carte menu is good.
Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills is one of the oldest German Settlements in Australia. The main street is a mixture of the old and the new, and where the old has become the new new! From local artists to local food to local heritage, there...is always something for everyone.
The Old Mill Hotel formerly operated as a steam mill in 1854 processing many brands of flour such as .the 'Pride of the Hills". In 1971, the old Mill was renovated to include a German-style restaurant with motel rooms at the back.
Sitting proudly on Main Street, the Old Mill is inviting and with the offer of a superb buffet for lunches and dinners is just too good an offer to bypass. Entering off Main Street, pass the front bar, a turn to the left and it food delight! The first smaller dining area is the a la carte meals and then into a much larger area that houses the famed buffet. Payment is at the bar area in the large dining room prior to selecting and eating. Then select a table and "Let the adventure begin!” I like to do a walk around and see what is on offer. This is a strategic plan when at a buffet so that I can plan my eating to eat what I really want and know what lies ahead - including desserts.
Starting at Main Street end, there are 2 soups on offer - then strangely the Golden North Ice-cream freezer with toppings galore. Tip bread rolls are on the soup buffet, but butter is much later in the chain. Hot plates are next flowed by a coffee machine. The starts the 2 main buffets - cold meats, salads, shell fish with condiments then the start of the hot dishes - various roast meats, vegies, gravies, seafood then around the corner to the other side and more hot food. From Chinese to Pizza to curries. Pork belly and the hot desserts - sticky date pudding, apple strudel, custard. Then to the main dessert buffet cheesecakes, pavlovas, cake slices and a fruit plate and cheese board. Decisions!
The room is well set out with a number of seating configurations from two or four people per tables to larger groups of 10 and above. I made sure we were quite close to the fruit and cheeseboard to ensure we had a healthy end to the meal! All the food I selected was fresh, tasty and with such a wide variety I had what I wanted. For drinks, the lemon, lime and bitters were of a good strength.
Service was friendly, interactive and done in a smiling welcoming way. I was really impressed with the timing of the staff in clearing used dishes as you went for the next course - impressive! Even as we left, we were thanked for dining there. Cost wise, for what was on offer and for the level of service, this was very cost effective. The dining areas could do with an update as they are looking a tad tired, but that didn’t put us off.
Return? This is definite yes! Just wait till the travel bans are over, we may well celebrate hereMore
Had a reasonable buffet meal on "Cheap Tuesday". For $18.90 you can have a 4 course meal with a wide selection of foods that was an above average buffet selection. It is available on other days of the week but the price goes up to...$23.90 which is still great value for a tourist town.More
We travelled up to Hahndorf and yes was lunchtime. Sooo we decided to check out The Old Mill . It is an awesome place to eat drink and enjoy time with friends n family.
Prices are reasonable. Great atmosphere!
Actually, I'm not sure about the 21, but we have been here many times. I would give this restaurant six stars. I have written previous reviews about this place, so today i am thinking about what makes this place special. We have a great first...impression with the large, airy, carpeted dining room with smart chairs and tables. Then the service is wonderful, with used plates promptly cleared away in a friendly way. Finally there is the buffet. It is hard to find a good buffet meal near Adelaide, but here the buffet is extensive and reasonably priced. Come for Tuesday lunch and it is under $19. Soups, salads, mains, desserts, drinks ... . We have fond memories of Germany, so I am always drawn to the 'Bratwurst mit Sauerkraut' and 'Apfel Strudel' but there are many other choices. In fact is is hard to 'eat small': a small helping of every attractive choice adds to quite a lot! Just a pity it is so far from Adelaide!!More
