Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited with my sister and mother to have coffee and cake. There seemed to be a lot of home baked goods to eat. We all agreed that the coffee was GREAT. We enjoyed the Irish ambience and especially the couple who own the business.

A mix of family and friends all had the same response. The salmon was exceptional, in flavour and presentation. My daughter had the Ham and Cheese Croissant. We also shared Irish style chips. We also took home an extra loaf of Rye Bread. The best...flavour and texture, we’ll be back and have told friends too. We’ll bring them next time. Thanks to the team behind the scenes, we appreciated your culinary skills and highly recommend The Plough at Hahndorf.More

Visited for lunch on a rainy Sunday sfternoon, I just intended to be there for coffee and a quick bite. The coffee was the best I have had in months, excellent and friendly service, lunch was the most delicious caramelised onion, pumpkin and feta tart...served with beautifully cooked potatoes and a lovely fresh salad. Yum! Seriously yum! To top it all off, there was a lovely and very cheerful small musical group playing absolutely delightful Irish Music! Such a good vibe. I loved my experience at the Plough. I would totally recommend this gorgeous little restaurant, it was so so good!More

The Plough is a small cafe located in the heart of Hahndorf. It appears to get high ratings but from my experience (and Trip Advisor is all about the individual's experience) I don't share the same enthusiasm. Visited here recently for a morning tea/snack. Ordered...a croissant, scone and coffee. Their prices are at the higher end, which you don't mind, if there is value in what is provided. $9 is ok for a croissant but it was very small. The $5 scone was ok in size but it came with a tiny blister pack of jam. Insufficient to even fully cover the scone with a micro thin layer of jam. The cream which cost an additional $2!, was equally void of volume to cover that scone. Ive had this type of fare many times in cafes far and wide but the Plough's offering in comparison to others, was at the bottom end in terms of value. I cant comment on other menu items, only on what I selected. There are other cafes in that same street which are far better. Incidentally SA is in the midst of COVID restrictions and directions around mask wearing. Every business (food and other types) Ive been in over the past week, 100% of staff have been wearing face masks. Interesting mask wearing interpretations at Plough with their 4 staff members. Staff member 1: No mask at all. Staff member 2: Mask covering the chin only Staff member 3: Mask covering the mouth only. (Obviously unaware their nose is connected to the lungs!) Staff member 4: Fully masked up (well done) Obviously the fact they have masks, indicates they are aware of an obligation but really?? All of those 3 unmasked staff, interacted closely with customers. Interesting experience, but wont be back.More

We tried the Plough for breakfast and were disappointed. Their menu was poor and the food was equally poor. Give it a miss is our advice.

They were very busy but told us it will be a bit of a wait but we didn't mind. Let us sit with our dog so thats an extra star everytime. The food came out quicker than we thought, Irish stew and sandwich was excellent,...stew could have been a bit hotter on a cold day but they were busy. Two good quality beers on tap and Guiness makes this an excellent stop over for lunch. Staff were very friendly.More

The cafe was empty except one table. We decided to go and order coffee and tea because we had had our lunch and wanted somewhere to wait for 20 minutes. The owner came 5 minutes after our tea arrived and told us that the table...is reserved and we will have to leave. We asked there were many empty tables, if we could sit on those. He said " You have been here for 30 minutes" - which was not true because we had to be somewhere on time and we only had 15-20 min. Anyway, we decided to leave our tea and the cafe. My husband even politely said we will be back to try some meals another time - at the time of the order. if the cafe was busy, we would totally understand but it was all empty. There was only one table that was occupied. This was a strange experience and we will never be returning back. We want to be able to enjoy our meal and drinks, not be forced out of the cafe. Moreover, we went past and the tables were still empty. I was thinking of buying some breads, but of course not after this behaviour. Never going back.More
