Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not being familiar with Christchurch, arriving late and hungry we searched for the best restaurants— Birdwood pizza came up. It sounded and was delicious. Deep into a pretty suburb, almost full, the wait staff were so friendly, recommended dishes, and just took the edge off...a long day of driving. We had their meat pizza and chicken tortellini; we’d never heard of the latter and it was delicious. The pizza was thin crust, which we favor, and the sauce slightly sweet...very good! Not quite enough for two people thus the pasta. This may seem odd because in reality we’d gotten lost thinking Birdwood was in town center. But in the end the food, the warmth, made it feel very local and that added a special accent to the dinner. So speaks the OutspokenTravelerMore

I make the 30min trek up here often as the pizza is amazing! 10/10 would rate, i love how old school it is. They would rather focus on the quality of the pizza rather than the looks

Normally Ray's Birdwood pizza's are the best, soft crust, ample topping, and cooked just how you like it. I have been going there for years. It's a 10 km drive to Ray's from my place and the pizzas are not cheap, but they have always...been worth it. However, apparently no longer. My 'phone order was taken by a young member of staff who obviously has comprehension issues. I specifically asked for no pineapple, to be replaced by anchovies. The result was a pizza that took over 10 minutes more than the time suggested, had a very burned crust, lack of topping with huge chunks of capsicum, a spreading of the dreaded pineapple and no anchovies. It was inedible. I rang Ray to discuss the meal but was told he was too busy. Sorry Ray, that is not good enough.More

Ordered 3 take away pizzas for pick up and despite the power being out and the guy working in the dark.....thank goodness for the wood fired pizza oven.....we received 3 amazing pizzas. The Super Supreme was indeed Supreme! More like a Paella on a pizza...base....about an inch thick and really tasty! We now have pizza for lunch and dinner tomorrow night as well.....and really looking forward to it.More

This place confuses quantity for quality. If it were my business I'd cut the amount of topping by half, offer EFTPOS facilities rather inconvenience people by sending them to the pub (where the food is better), lose the bigoted "Halal-Free Zone" signs, bring the decor...into the current century and most importantly clean up. I felt glad my tetanus shots were up to date. I'll stick to getting pizza from the Tottness Inn or suck it up and drive to Gawler.More

I really enjoyed the birdwood pizza bar. I ordered the family size... Huge mistake! I felt sick afterwards! My eyes were bigger then my stomach. But overall this place has yummy food and great staff. I highly recommend this place to all travelers.

Often order when in Mannum or TTG and pick up an order on the way through. Cash sales only. Delicious, huge amount of toppings, 2 slices is enough. Definitely recommended

We ordered the Special Pizza and were amazed by how good it looked. Plenty of toppings on (or more like in!!) a really good pizza base. We had the 12inch, but the 9 inch would have been ample. Time to make it was about 20...minutes, but well worth it. Pricing is good, too for what you get.More

Not much has changed in this place over its life, that includes the large quantity of topping on the pizzas which is what keeps people coming back.Unlike the suburbs where you need 3 pizzas here you need 1.The place is quite tired but I don't go...there for the looks.More

Now there are pizzas and then there are real PIZZAS!! Ray, "the man in charge", really knows what makes a great pizza, and he heaps great stuff on all his large variety. Local and fresh produce sourced during the many coffee breaks he takes throughout...the Hills. He is a local identity, and his pizzas are bought by people who travel through Birdwood and from many surrounding areas. Expect one hell of a feed!!More

These pizzas are PACKED with toppings! Delicious. I'm not sure what the photo is of but that is nowhere near what the pizza place looks like. It's not had a good clean since 1985 and some of the yellow tinged signage would be worth a...mint to a vintage collector. Luckily the shop has no reflection on the pizzaMore

The pizza's served here are loaded with plentiful toppings, and you will not go hungry. If you wish to cater to a large crowd, order ahead as they need time to create the excellent pizzas.
