Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The pastry chef Steve is a star. His pastry is as good as anything you will find in France. Light, buttery, delicate, it really is excellent. Their bread is outstanding. The salted Turkish loaf is diet busting, try it with a glass of wine as an aperitif, you don't need anything else. There ange of breads is impressive. They open at 7a.m., do a first batch of croissants and then another batch later at about 8. 30 a.m.

First visit we bought danish, apple pie, rolls and tarts to eat over several days. After the first bite of the danish we knew why this bakery was so highly rated. It was light, flakey and not overly sweet. The other products were just as good. We dropped in for coffee and a croissant on our last day in the region. Definitely 5 star!

Thank you trip advisor for leading us to this amazing spot. We went back twice and each time it was so good! Coffees were also very good, a little strong for my liking but staff happily added a little extra milk and it was perfect. Super friendly staff are the icing on the cake (or almond croissant, take your pick 😆). Do not miss this shop of you're on Stanthorpe!

Enjoying a walk in Maryland Street, late morning it was decided it was time for a coffee and pastry. Completing the Qld QR code before entering Zest, there were a number of customers seated, whilst we found a spare table. I went to stand in the only line with two customers in front, approaching the counter, as two staff were behind the counter. One staff member making coffee and the other moving pastries, but not serving anyone whilst paying no attention to anyone entering. After waiting 3 to 4 minutes another five customers came in behind me and as we were all jammed up forming one line, the customer in front and myself moved forward. The others behind moved to the far end of the pastries counter, whilst the the first customer in front received her coffee. As the custom in front approached the counter to give their order the woman making coffee, then says to the other male and myself, 'get over there to the end of the line' pointing to the end of the queue of five customers who had come in behind. There was no indication of where to line, whilst the other woman still behind the counter, had not appeared interested in making mention to us earlier that we needed to take up a different location. To the staff of Zest, I apologise as my crystal ball was not functioning, nor have I become a mind reader, but thank you for your interaction. We enjoyed our coffee and lunch in another nearby location.

I'm sorry that the shop layout wasn't clear enough for you to see our queue up system. It can get confusing when people are lining up waiting for their coffee. I was definitively polite letting you know where the correct line up was. I am never rude to my valued customers.

The tourist bureau recommended this place. Food was average, service depended on whether you were a local or not. I thought it was expensive for the few items I got. Disappointed as a local bakery is supposed to be a good one.

We arrived at 1pm and there was not much left in the warmer. We queried what a beef cheek pie was and a woman lectured us that we eat beef from the rump and beef from the leg, why would we not eat beef from the cheek. We felt quite uncomfortable with her attitude. So we purchased two of these pies as we were hungry. The glutinous slimy texture of the filling was not to our liking and we gave the pies to the dog. Which makes for expensive dog chow at $8+ a pie.

I had met a local who told me that Zest was the place for good coffee and great food. Well she was right.
We went for breakfast and I ordered the Omelette with Spinach and Feta which came with two slices of awesome sourdough bread. My husband had the Bacon and Egg Sourdough Roll with Beetroot Relish and Rocket. We both ordered coffees.
The breakfasts were fabulous as were the coffees. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and efficient.
We also ended up buying a loaf of sourdough to take with us as well as two tartlets. One with custard and raspberries and the other a salted caramel pecan. Both were divine.

What a find. During a recent visit to Stanthorpe we fell upon Zest pasties. Everything is made on site and the puff pastry in all there products is buttery, flaky, and light. The pies, sausage rolls and small tarts were fabulous with the fillings as delicious as the pastry. Daily fresh salads and freshly made rolls are an alternative to pastries and add another dimension to this little gem. Great sourdough as well. A must visit in Stanthorpe.

Outside was freezing cold and we wanted a nice hot latte on the morning we visited this cafe. We were pleasantly surprised by the gorgeous display of pies, cakes, croissants, etc. Really fresh and delicious. Latte was yum too.

I had a pickled pork and coleslaw roll - it was amazing, a truly delicious sandwich. Beautiful fresh bread, melt in the mouth pork and a crunchy red cabbage coleslaw with a tasty mayo spiced with fresh dill. The vanilla slice was perfect too.

We were staying outside Stanthorpe overnight and by early morning we were searching for a place for breakfast when a guy stopped us and told us every year when he visits Stanthorpe he always goes to Zest . So on his recommendation we did and boy we were not disappointed. Wonderful selection of pastries, sandwich’s,pies ( including a Moroccan Goat pie)
So much to choose from
We opted for sausage rolls, croissants with ham and cheese and some sweet pastries plus tea.
All excellent and served by friendly , cheery staff.

Amazing pasties and bread are out of this world. Difficulty in choosing my favourite so I double dipped. Friendly staff and service so if you are feeling low or want that comfort food put a little ZEST in your life.

I was told that a pie from Zest was a must do experience and clearly everyone agrees as they were virtually sold out by 1pm. We had the curried goat pie as this was all that remained and I have to admit I was a little reluctant but it was absolutely delicious and better than the chunky steak pie I had the next day from them.
The downside is the cost. At $8.50 per pie, I wonder where the locals go to eat as I could only justify the cost as it was a holiday treat. I understand rising costs and paying for a quality product but we won't be going back at this prices when we return as a family in June.

Yes the pies are higher in price but unfortunately with the price of good quality butter and meat and how much time we put into making them (you'd be surprised when making a high-quality product). We have to incorporate increasing rent, electricity, insurance and staff hourly rates as well. I'm sick of putting our prices up to cover these costs but at this rate if we want to stay open it is absolutely necessary. We hope you understand and are able to support our small business again one day. Thanks

So glad we found this wonderful bakery. We were late for breakfast so opted for a Salted Turkish bread roll with butter and an Almond Croisant to share. The bread was to die for - will be back tomorrow for our picnic lunch at the national park. The croisant wasn't half bad either. Would put this on my list of "must visit" when in the area.

We love going to Zest for breakfast when we are staying in Stanthorpe.
All the bread and pastries are made on site and are so good and very popular with locals as well as visitors.
Today we both decided to have the breakfast special if poached eggs on sourdough with smoked salmon, and avocado and garnished with rocket and a lemon wedge.
The coffees we ordered were excellent as was our breakfast. Such a great place!
