This is a hidden gem with a sensational view over the Maroochy River where it enters the ocean. We really appreciated getting a table directly facing the water. It was a beautiful romantic evening made even better by staff at the restaurant. Debbie is fantastic, knowledgeable, friendly and exceptionally helpful. She took a number of beautiful photos of the occasion for us.
Our mains were Sirloin steak with oregano chimichurri, heirloom carrots & chargrilled eggplant for me and Crispy skin barramundi fillet, chat potato, salad & tartare sauce for my wife.
This was enjoyed with a beautiful wine.
What a great location, wonderful staff and excellent food.

Magnificent food! Fresh, delicious and unique cuisine. We started with oysters that were delivered to the restaurant this morning, and you could taste how fresh they were. My friend and I decided to share three entrees as our “main”. The chorizo soufflé was high, light and fluffy with a cream cheese sauce, we also had a king prawn dish with creamy wild rice, and the third was the pork belly with fresh pineapple in a very tasty sauce. For dessert we had a magnificent tiramisu and an espresso martini. The presentation of the food and cocktails was exceptional and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The view overlooking the ocean was breathtaking and I highly recommend this beautiful restaurant. I will definitely be returning!

From booking to leaving, going to Ocean Ended is a real experience. We are always warmly welcomed, Maitre'd Paul's hospitality is humourous and professional, Debbie's customer service is faultless, and the meals are fabulous. (The Chef is happy to talk to guests.) Great wine list, and Paul and Debbie do everything in their power to meet all requests. Has recently reopened under new ownership and the decor has changed from the photo shown here. More up-market now but that has not come at the expense of the diner - the Menu prices have remained very modest. This lovely restaurant is right on the Maroochy River, with a glass roof. It also has convenient off-street parking, mostly undercover, and close to the restaurant entrance. Ocean Ended is a restaurant not to be missed.

After booking the restaurant for lunch over a month prior and confirming and receiving confirmation number I called the restaurant a week out and poke to jack and confirmed we would be there and he said that we would have a table by window for two birthday celebration.
We then get a message to say our reservation is canceled and they are closing for winter, they must have made lots of money through summer.
I will not recommend this place to anyone or use them again

For starters the Prawn and Crab croquettes tasted like mashed potatoes only. The Sourdough with Olive oil and vinegar was a very poor quality oil which lacked flavour. Entree of Marinated cabbage with confit of mushrooms was quite nice. Mains of Crispy skin Barramundi was OK but nothing special and the Duck Maryland confit was bland with soggy sweet potato chips, a lovely green salad and Tamarillo jam. A very disappointing experience and would not recommend.

I was keen to try this restaurant as it has rave reviews. For the period we were in Maroochydore, Sunday lunch was our only opportunity, so we booked. We arrived 15 minutes before our booking and were obliged to wait outside because it was so busy. The view was lovely but an outdoor bench would have been appreciated. Owners/staff were friendly and apologetic about being overstretched and slower than usual. Food was OK, not rave material, and prices, especially for wine by the glass, at the top end of the restaurant pricing. There was a (discovered) error in the number of glasses charged to the bill. I must say that the crowded room of diners all seemed to be having a fantastic time, with much cameraderie with the owners, so i think we were just unlucky in our menu choices and in choosing a day when the kitchen was over-stretched, as we were told on a couple of occasions.

Like all tenants of a body corporate, Ocean Ended is obliged to follow the rules around common areas. Although it might look like we own the space outside our restaurant, we don't, unfortunately. We are not permitted to put furniture outside. That's why we carefully make bookings only when we know we'll have an open table.
We apologise for an over-stretched kitchen. It happens upon occasion in many restaurants and will be happening more often in the months and years to come as the global lack of trained chefs impacts service. We do limit our bookings to ensure that service is not impacted, but obviously there was an issue on this occasion.
Unlike pubs and most restaurants, we have two Enotec machines that keeps opened bottles of wine in original condition, so we are able to offer lower level and some premium wines by the glass. The premium wines are priced accordingly.

During our recent visit to the Sunshine Coast my wife and I visited a restaurant which was new to us; they have actually been established for several years. As always, we have some trepidation when ‘trying out’ a new place however I am definitely pleased to say we needn’t have. Ocean Ended will be on our short list of restaurants we always visit when we’re on the Sunshine Coast in future. Why? Put simply (a) the location on the Maroochy River is lovely whether by day or night, (b) the service was friendly, professional & timely & (c) the meals were exceptional, tasty and value for money. My wife loved her entre of zucchini flowers stuffed with honey & whipped ricotta & main, linguine of crab, lemon, chilli, parsley & tobiko. I opted for the chef’s selected seafood plate followed by Tasmanian salmon and accompaniments. Overall, we had a lovely fine dining experience; as far as we were concerned right up to the very high standard we have been fortunate to enjoy in many places in Australia & overseas. We will be back!

We visited Ocean Ended for dinner with a group of friends in search of a good experience. We were warmly welcomed and introduced to various staff members. Let me say at the outset we have rarely encountered such high quality service. It was totally unobtrusive but every time we wanted something a staff member was there to happily help.
I started with the twice cooked crab soufflé. While it was was a delicious soufflé, I think they forgot to put the crab in it. Others noted the same, but again it was delicious.
For mains I ordered the free running barramundi. I don't usually choose barramundi in preference for more local fresh fish. But this encrusted and moist dish was absolutely superb and one of the best I have tasted.
We all thought that the portion size could have been a little more generous for the price, but the accompanying chips were very tasty and helped to fill us up.. Two in our group had dessert and both commented that it was delicious.
We thought that the beers on the menu ware well priced but the mid range quality wines were at the upper end of what we would expect to pay .
All in all with a fabulous view and a great atmosphere we had a very enjoyable evening.

I can assure you, there was plenty of crab in the crab soufflé. :-) You enjoyed it so much because of the flavour balance our chef achieves with this long-time-favourite dish. And thanks for commenting on the beautiful job the team does with our fish of the day too. Delighted you thought it was one of the best you'd ever tasted. High praise!

Both my husband & I have dietary requirements and can be quite hard to cater for, but nothing was too much and the food was beautiful. We were also surprised by the size of the meals as we were expecting small portions, but the portions were a good size. The service was fantastic and they had a good wine selection. We will definitely return in the future!

Dinner for two on a Saturday evening. If you want white linen, silver utensils, waitstaff in livery and a sommelier with a cummerbund this is not the place. If you want to eat good food, drink good wine and engage in some actual conversation with the hosts then this is the right place. Enjoyed the friendly and efficient atmosphere and paid the bill with a smile and a bit of a chuckle.

Lovely view of the river and incoming fishing boats. Fresh natural oysters were very good as was the fish (jewfish) and chips (too many as usual). Not rushed and very enjoyable. Closest toilets across the road on the park.

My wife and I recently dined at Ocean Ended after it’s reopening. To say we were absolutely delighted with the whole dining experience that night would be a massive understatement. We had dined there previously before their closure for several months and were thrilled to see they had reopened. We booked as soon as we could and had a truly wonderful night. The setting is beautiful, the wait staff are friendly and professional and accommodating and the food was mouth watering. We highly recommend you treat yourself.

The welcome was genuine and the hosts were consistently engaged with all of tables. The outlook from our table was spot on and the restaurant space was tasteful. The seafood plate looked and tasted delectable and the crab souffle and pork ribs were also deemed good. The crab linguine was the winner main, the rest of us had barramundi with mexican flavours that included corn and avocado, that was less successful as a flavour combination. The fish however was fresh and cooked perfectly. The wine list is typical and is well priced, we had a de Julius Verdelho and a Wairau River Chardonnay. We had affogato for dessert given that three courses was a bit much for the afternoon. In all a really pleasant lunch where we were well looked after.

How hard is it for a chef to cook 2 rib eye fillet steaks. Pretty hard to ruin that cut of meat but, yep ruined !!!
We ordered 1 medium and 1 medium well, both were served to our table as very well done, on cold plates. How does this happen in a restaurant with such high reviews.
Also forgetting 1 item on the order.
How hard is it, wasn’t even a busy time, a quiet lunch time meal.
Definitely overpriced for the service.
Long time local, Won’t be back!!!

Spotlessly clean, simple, elegant modern décor, comfortable and (one of the main reasons for dining) delicious food. The waitress was delightful and chatty and the view was great. We were surprised there weren't more diners there even midweek as it was most enjoyable all round. Would certainly recommend it from our experience.
