The Terrace has been an icon for dining in the hinterland for 26 years, having won the best tourism restaurant in Queensland three years in a row and the best in Australia in the year 2000.The Terrace has a huge following of locals and visitors who think nothing of driving up from Brisbane for lunch.With magnificent views and a very romantic out look at night,the best seafood experience in Qld,you do need to make reservations. Great main meal, poor dessert

We enjoyed the views, the waiters were attentive, in particular Raj was very accommodating and was happy to move us to a table with better views when we asked. The main meals were excellently prepared and of sufficient quantity. The desserts however were overpriced and of poor quality eg the Black Forest desert had shop bought jam roll sliced in the bottom of the dish. If we stay in the Terrace Cottages again we will probably go back, but only for the main meals.

Excellent service from the young staff and the ever-mindful owner

We took some old friends from Melbourne there on the Friday night and had a wonderful time. Very very good food and excellent service from both the young staff with whom we had great interaction as well as service and the owner of the business. Then on the Sunday, Father's Day, we were booked into another restaurant that messaged us to say that they could not supply the offer for the original booking, We contacted Terrace Seafood to see if we could get a sitting with them, they were fully booked but said, come 30 minutes early and we will squeeze you in. once again, great food, great service and a perfect location on a summer's day with the windows open and a gentle breeze blowing through the restaurant. Thank you, Raelene, for going the extra effort to squeeze us in to celebrate Father's Day with our parents.

A beautiful view and wonderful food.

I ordered a Surf and Turf and my wife ordered two entrees: Salt and Pepper Squid and Sea Scallops. The rib fillet was very tasty (if just slightly overcooked) and the scallops were perfect - full of flavour and just barely cooked. My wife's squid was the best! They had an excellent selection of wines, and the Rose we chose was very good. Even the bread we had before our meal was delicious. Service was fine.

Underwhelming experience

I’m mystified by the good reviews… Our group of five visited for lunch. We were booked in for 1 pm, then waited well over an hour for our meals after ordering (so after the busy period), with no explanation whilst we waited. Only after enquiring were we advised they were one short in the kitchen, and they apologised. The menu seems to have barely changed in the past 30 years, which is fine if the food lives up to it. Now I love seafood chowder. Their “famous” version was more potato chowder with a whiff of seafood waved over it. No visible sign of seafood in there, except the large tasty whole prawn sticking out of it. This almost saved mine, as I was able to chop it into pieces and have a piece with each spoonful. We were left wondering if they ran out of chowder and quickly cobbled together something minus the seafood stock base? The other meals at our table were also disappointing, though my broccolini side dish was very nice and the chips were good. Also wondered why the grilled fish options on the menu are not local… why barramundi and salmon?? Cocktails, at $25 each, were so basic and overpriced. We didn’t order dessert, as the menu again was stuck in an 80’s time warp of brandy basket and sticky date. So many better options for dining in Maleny.

Nothing short of average unfortunately

The food and experience were not worth the money paid. For a high end priced restaurant I expected the food, restaurant and service to be exceptional and it was far from it. The decor looked outdated with Miss matching rusty chairs and the lady who served us had to come back to the table twice to confirm which bottle of wine we wanted even though we clearly told her which one. I also didn’t understand how or why when we were seated we were only served a drink menu and no food menu.. usually I would pick my meal and then pair it with a wine or drink. I ordered the surf and turf on the recommendation of another traveler and I was disappointed to say the least… it was served with 3 tiny sauces, mustard, tomato relish and a hollandaise from a carton.. the steak wasn’t anything special and was well undercooked. Our plates were left dirty on the table for some time so we got up to leave with not even looking at the dessert menu as we weren’t offered it by the waitress … she saw us get up and said oh your done ok…. Maybe the lunch experience would have been nicer as there was a view to look at but we were not impressed with the dinner service.

I took my elderly father and my Sister visiting from NZ to this restaurant and had one of the best meals and service I've experienced in a long time. The young man waiting our table was excellent, friendly, courteous and very professional, truly an asset to this restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't have a table overlooking the amazing view. but rest assured I'll be booking again and requesting a table with the view

Top food on top of the mountain!

From the first contact with Raylene I knew that this would be a wonderful experience. Booking simple and recommended, very popular. Restaurant is easy find and parking in front. The view looking back towards the coastline was a picture itself. We had the DIY Hot Stone Meat Feast - For 2 . Beautifully presented sides and sauces plus a delectable piece of steak, lamb cutlet and pork tenderloin sizzling away on our own hot plate. We both enjoyed every bite, every bite. Others had seafood meals which also looked great, but glad with our choice. Gluten-free desert Bomb Alaska, a first for me. He had the pistachio brownie with chocolate sauce and ice cream, which he loved and did not share! Couples and groups of all ages looked just as thrilled as us! We will go back again! .

A Really Poor Experience

I had been recommended The Terrace by a friend. We live in the area and thought we would try it. While we went with very positive feelings the moment we walked in that changed. It was Friday 1pm and the greeter asked if we had a reservation. On saying no, he said he would see what he could do, despite the fact there were numerous vacant tables without “reserved” on them. We had to hang about in the entry while he fussed about. Finally he offered us a choice of two tables at the back of the restaurant- one jammed up against the back wall and one at the exit to the toilets. Since there was more room at the exit table we took it. He then provided us with the wine list but no menu. We waited. Finally he returns and we ask for the menu. He goes away; we wait. Finally I pick up menus at the entry. He then comes back and after saying “no wine then?” itemizes the specials, takes away the wine glasses, side plates and napkins! We had to ask for them back. Really if the food we finally had was fabulous, we might have overlooked the really awful service but it was just OK. Something you can get at other places for a similar price……$90 for two, no wine, no dessert. By the way no further people came in to occupy all the other vacant tables at the front. A really poor experience.

We visited this restaurant for lunch and did so after reading some rather good reviews on it.. Unfortunately we found it lacking.. The view in the restaurant was exceptional I must say.. however, the view was better than the overall place generally.. food was no better than "pub food" and the price for same was equally as extraordinary as the view.. My partners dish was served and the wine glass was knocked over by the waiter which broke, spilling a piece of glass into her dish.. the waiter took the meal to the kitchen then returned advising that he had taken the glass out and would she like the meal back or a fresh dish!!!! We paid in full for these meals (we were not expecting a discount but did expect professional service & good food) I would not be tempted to return nor can I recommend this restaurant..

Lovely lunch

Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our meals here. We had friends with us for their first visit and they were impressed. I really love the garlic prawns, my husband always loves the chowder and our friends enjoyed the pork belly and the fisherman’s lunch. Service was wonderful. It was great to see so many people enjoying their lunch at this restaurant.

Wonderful views. Delicious food and fabulous service. A must when visiting Maleny. We stayed next door to this restaurant at Maleny Terrace Cottages (also recommended) so we could enjoy some lovely wine and walk back to our accommodation.

Enjoyed the shared seafood platter for two. Service was good with pleasant and accommodating service staff. Short wait time for food service. The seafood platter was wonderful. Seafood was fresh and well cooked/prepared and very tasty. The only down side was that after the seafood platter we were both unable to fit in a dessert which looked very inviting. Oh well - next time. Great restaurant. Highly recommended.

It’s been a few years since I have been to the terrace but I must say they remain to be a very professional restaurant , the staff and service were amazing and the food was the best of local produce ,It was dinner for my partners birthday so the small detail of a birthday card on the table was lovely, it’s nice to see we’ll trained staff and clearly they enjoyed their jobs happy attentive and the right level of interaction with us well done terrace. The food was fresh local and very good value for money there is no danger of walking away hungry.Lovely ambience and we would definitely be coming back

Amazing Location, Staff and Food!!!

My husband and I were given a gift voucher for a Seafood Feast at The Terrace Restaurant in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. We had been here for dinner many years before and knew it would be special, so we saved it to use on our wedding anniversary. Well, it was even better than we remembered! The food was so fresh, tasty and plentiful! We had the hot and cold Seafood Feast, which started with the best EVER chowder we've ever had (and we've had chowder all over the world!) Word of warning - go when you are really hungry!!! The staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant! They even gave us a "Happy Anniversary" card containing a $35 gift voucher to use on our return - which will be very soon! Love Love Love this restaurant!!!!

Friendly attentive service from arrival. Excellent seafood presented well. We recommend the mussels, scallops and tuna in whatever dishes they appear. Good choice of drinks. Do not miss this place if you are in the Maleny area. We'll be back.
