Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We are glad that we walked a bit more from the train station and found this Resturant. It had nice authentic Thai food and the portions were really good. Food was tasty and the staff was very helpful and it was real value for money. If you are really hungry and want a proper meal in Kuranda this is the place to be though ti could get busy during lunch time on weekends.

Decided to have lunch here and was very impressed with the food. We ordered the stir fry cashew chicken and the tofu stir fry cashew chicken as well as the vegetarian spring rolls. The food arrived at our table in record time and was so delicious, I think its the best Thai we have had in a very long time! Staff were friendly and it was a very relaxed/casual atmosphere.

This thai restaurant is deep inside the buiding but it serves me real thai cuisine. The staffs are very kind. Their chefs are thai native. It’s very cheap with the taste and quality of raw materials for cooking. Condiments are all original thai.

This is a good eating option in Kuranda. The menu is extensive with our simple choices delivered quickly. The fried rice/prawns was fresh with the springers and curry puffs also hot and tasty. The eating is outside where it is nice and cool. A good option if your tastes stray from meat and three veg.

We really enjoyed the food, it came quickly, service was excellent. Cute environment that felt a bit Thai. The fan helped on a hot day! Would recommend for sure! Staff were friendly and obviously take pride in what they do.

Visited here after checking Trip Advisor and we weren’t disappointed. Food was excellent, all dishes arrived hot and freshly cooked(a change from some of the restaurants in the Cairns area). Worth a visit.

In 30 years hands down the worst Thai meal ever.Purchased take away , every meal ordered was cold on pick up approx 10 minutes from order time, the beef in the Thai beef salad had a smell even the dog wasn't keen to try.The spring rolls were tasteless and filled only of packet frozen peas and corn..simply terrible

Regular Thai fare, BYO and used by locals. The menu could have a few more choices but the usual Thai food is available.

Tucked in a corner, it is hard to spot. We actually missed it and found this place via yelp. Easy to order and the food came fast and was tasty. Had the shrimp fried rice and the panang curry. Both tasted good with generous size portions. We were in a rush but the order came fast. They did have a bunch of other families dining too.

We had 6 nights a little way out from Kuranda and 4 of us ate here for lunch twice. All the food we ordered was excellent. We chose mixed entree plates, x 2, chicken satay and red pork curry the first time around. On return visit we had chicken satay, Thai fried rice with prawns and green chicken curry. You can ask to have the heat level dialled up, as the standard issue is a bit on the tame side. Food is fresh, tasty and nicely presented. Service is livey, friendly and prompt. A clear view into the kitchen reveals cooking staff wearing hair nets and face masks, which given the heat and humidity, is a real commitment to health and safety regulations in this region. On our first visit we dined with a dog and sat outside in the walkway, on our second visit we dined on the balcony without the dog which was MUCH better. Serve your self unlimited chilled water and chilled glasses from the fridge. Mains at the moment dont cost any more than $19.90 which include prawn dishes. Other meats and vego dishes are cheaper at around $15.90 to $18.90. Good value as the serves aren't overly large but just right. The tasting entree plate is a winner for the price. I ordered too much the second time around and asked for a take away tub for my Prawn thai rice, which was presented with no fuss at all. It was obviously so good as it got pinched out of the community fridge at the camp ground where we were staying before the next morning. It was a GENEROUS serve and they didnt hold back on the prawns. Pity it got pinched, as I was hoping to have it for lunch the next day! Not easy to find in Kuranda as it is down a little lane way, but well worth the search. Keep in mind that Kuranda is a tourist town, and it caters almost exclusively to the overseas tourist market, and as a result the prices in this town are wealthy tourist prices. Thai Kai is an honest place to eat and doesnt gouge out tourist prices. Be aware as an almost exclusively tourist town, nothing much opens before the first train arrives at 10 am and everything closes when the last train departs. Its a bit like Disneyland in the QLD rainforest. Other than tourism via the train and the sky rail, there isnt much of any substance to Kuranda other than gouging cash out of over seas tourists. Luckily Thai Kai comes across as a genuine business, serving very good food at good prices. As my husband says, we went back twice in 6 days because the food was great and the prices were reasonable. Thai Kai is a hidden gem in Kuranda, and well worth seeking out for friendly service, great food and good prices.

Had lunch here during my visit to Kurunda. I only wanted a light meal so had the mixed entree. This consisted of a satay chicken skewer, curry puff, thai fish cake and two pieces of chicken. It was all nice and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly. I did not have to wait long for my meal.

We had just done the Lambs Head/Kahlpahlim Rock hike and stopped here for a feed as we passed through Kuranda on the way home. The cuisine was tasty, authentic and the staff were lovely. A peaceful and relaxing setting too. Highly recommended.

This is a place top go for good Thai food. Between us we had Pad Thai, a tofu massaman and a green curry. All fragrant, tasty and filling. All metals were less than 15 Aus dollars/ 9 pounds sterling. Fill your boots.
