Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Unfortunately this place is hit and miss. One day you can have an amazing meal served quickly - next day wait 90 minutes and the food is inedible and the cook is arguing claiming the steak is medium rare and you need a butcher’s block...and carving knife to penetrate a $109 steak. The accommodation itself is very good.More

Food was absolutely gorgeous! Great portions and so tasty. We had Mexican burrito with pulled pork and brisket. The. The 2 meat plate which we doubled up in the brisket. Smoked to perfection! Will definitely be going back! And 2 portions of chips we should...have definitely got in though as they were big we couldn’t eat all the chips!More

We dined here a few times whilst staying at the adjacent motel and the food was lovely. It was pretty busy so I definitely recommend booking a table. We had chicken schnitzels and fish and chips and it was all well cooked. The meal sizes...were very generous and the pricing was reasonable.More

The online booking service didn’t work. Family ordered at the same time and kids meals arrived quickly, which was great. The rest of the meals arrived over the next hour whilst we saw many people who arrived after us receive their meals before us. Parmigiana’s...were great but other meals were not up to standard. The Ruben Sandwich was extremely disappointing at $24 to arrive after an hour in a plastic tray and contained a tiny amount of scraps of brisket. The manager was indignant that we complained and said there was nothing wrong with it- and yelled across the restaurant to the server when they had brought a replacement back. We did get our money back but then everyone else had already eaten, Such a disappointment.More

Afternoon bar snack - chips and gravy. Chips cold. Gravy like water. Deafening music in a bar with only one other aged customer. Give it a miss.

Birthday lunch . Ordered meals, table of 8. Huge line to order , then 2 items on the menu that were chosen, were unavailable . Meals arrived in staggered fashion. Last two meals, simplest ones did not arrive until family chased them up. We were...eating while everyone was sitting waiting . Very disappointing. We always eat here when I visit my family. Very poor.More

Ordering Oysters Kirkpatrick this far inland was always going to be hit and miss however the dozen that I received were a meal on its own, they were large in size, the saying “less is more” certainly comes to mind with amount of bacon, at...least one small piglets worth that was piled on top. For my main I ordered the Maraboon smoked combo platter that included six smoked chicken wings complete with drumsticks attached, (possibly a small chicken in its entirety), at least a dozen slices of smoked brisket accompanied with a baked spud, bbq’d corn cob, slaw and three sauces. My excitement was short lived, I found the brisket to be tough, so tough that I had to literally saw through it with the steak knife, I suspect that the “smoked” refers to the carton of cigarettes that this piece of meet has smoked itself rather than the process as by which it was cooked, if I had to compare it to something familiar it would be my mothers boiled roast beef that was cooked in the early afternoon and then warmed back up in the miracle of what we call the microwave. The accompanying sauces were super rich, straight from the bottle rather than the traditional gravy sauce that is the byproduct of the smoking process. The slaw, which I didn’t touch arrived in its own tiny bucket and was a clump of coloured cabbage that had been basting in its dressing for the best part of the afternoon. The chicken wings were cooked in the smoker with a hint of heat in the seasoning and were quite nice although a meal on its own. Again the “less is more” approach would have worked well with the combo platter as it was protein overload, a real vegetarians nightmare with certainly enough meat for a small nation or at least two adults. The baked spud and bbq’d corn were lovely, and were the highlight of my meal. The staff were friendly and helpful, the beer was cold and the venue was clean and tidy. All in all I’ve had worse but I’ve certainly had better. These meals certainly have the opportunity to be a great feed, a full day in the smoker for the brisket would have allowed it to be cut with a butter knife which is what you expect from smoked brisket, half as much meat, some decent juicy meat drippings for the sauce and a slaw that wasn’t drowning in dressing and it would have been spot on.More

Visiting the area, asked several locals for a good place to eat. We were recommended to the Maraboon Tavern. Ordered the 14 hour slow cooked brisket and a steak sandwich. You would expect the brisket to be tender, NO…it may have been a week ago….seemed...it had been cooked days before, then reheated and covered in sauce. Like chewing on rubber. The steak sandwich was similar. Dried out and tough.overall a very disappointing experience…if this is one of the better places to eat, then I would hate to go to the others.More

Waited for over an hour after ordering and paying. When staff were queried about the delay, "Oh your order didn't go through". Most satisfying part was spending the refund at a local Chinese restaurant. Never again will we patronise this amateur circus.

A group of seven we visited the Maraboon on Wednesday just gone. The meals were average given the $30 price tag. The Balinese Chicken Curry was tasty but it needs to have the pieces of “bark” used in flavouring the dish removed before serving. Also...what looked like a mint chutney served as an accompaniment was in fact minced jalapeño chillies, really, with a Balinese spicy curry. But the real disappointment was the waitress who wanted to debate my interpretation of “raw” when it came to the duck breast. When a customer asks to give some feedback to the kitchen on a dish, that is what the waitress should do, deliver that feedback. Not accuse the customer of not knowing what raw means.More

I tend to judge restaurants not only by their ambience and service, but their attention to culinary details and the extent of their menu. The Rivers Restaurant gave me a superb Lamb Shank ($30.00) with 4 puff pastry "matchsticks", a rather spicy BBQ sauce and...delicious mashed potato and peas. My partner opted for the Lamb & Fennel Kofta with beetroot dip ($18.00) and it, too, received high praise. As did our $22.00 house chardonnay (Morgan's Bay). We were there for lunch, at 11.30am, and it's open every day.More
