A typical FNQ (Far North Queensland) destination. In the middle of the rainforest well off the beaten track. Great ambience in the open air setting with only a shade sail for protection. Loved it but it was a bit hot and muggy in December with...the wet season about to start.Got to love the name and the play on words!More

What sort of places advertises food and dinner, and then when you show up to eat, isn’t serving food?

This is an open air restaurant in the rainforests. It’s well covered with the walls open. Ambiance is really good. You get a slight breeze and the sounds of the rainforest all around. The food is excellent, large portions, and great deserts. I highly recommend...this place for a nice dinnerMore

Booked this for a birthday lunch weeks ahead of our trip to Port Douglas. On checking on the time of the booking, we discovered no booking had been made! Duly made the trip from Port Douglas and arrived and were seated. However, a bus trip...arrived shortly after and all the attention went to that group. Waited half an hour before finally getting a waitress attention. Eventually were served but the food was disappointing after having high expectations. Such a shame as it's a lovely spot.More

Our lunch at On the Turps was 2 years in the making - missed out having lunch 2 years ago as kitchen had just closed. Vowed that if we were back in Port Douglas to make sure we made the trek again to Daintree Forest...area just to have lunch at On the Turps Made booking by phone from Adelaide 2 weeks prior to the date - told the person the story about coming back and was excited to make take the booking especially when I said we would be celebrating my husbands birthday and that they would pay the return trip on the ferry. Rang on the morning to check the time I had booked lunch for - told no booking made- on further checking said they could take our booking for 12:30 Made the gorgeous drive from Port Douglas across the Daintree on the ferry - though did pay return ticket. Upon arrival at the resturant - not greeted by anyone and had to seek assitance - waitress did come up and conifrmed the booking for lunch in my name - she had it written on her hand. Due to there being 3 tables of people bus tours having lunch - waited 15 minutes before approaching desk again to ask if there is table service. Eventually order was taken- husband had jungle curry and I the battered barraumundi and chips Husband said curry very oily and more consistent with yellow curry rather than thin jungle curry. Barramundi was very overcooked and chips were just weird in texture. Neither of us completed our meals. The ambiance of the lodge and restaurant no doubt is stunning though guess we built our expectations up too muchMore

Lovely peaceful indoor/outdoor style setting. Friendly and attentive staff. Menu choice varied and interesting. We both enjoyed our shared entrée of kangaroo and crocodile terrine, and our mains of barramundi, and goat cheese cannelloni, respectively. Prices reflected the good quality of the food.

I live local and I’m so happy we found this little gem. Food was amazing service was outstanding and the beautiful surrounds of the Daintree rainforest and the crystal clear creek just topped off our experience. Make sure you take your towel and togs

We had a lovely meal here in the middle of the rainforest. The cobs were generous, the main meals good, but the real find here were the desserts, so definitely leave room for them when you come. A bonus was that the house wine was...good value and delicious.More
