Whet is a great place to stop by when getting to Cape Trib. The food is so tasty! We had the chicken burger and it was made with a really nice and fresh chicken breast. The restaurant has a nice deck outside where you can enjoy your meal while you're surrounded by the rainforest. Will definitely come back! 😀

Amidst a number of "greasy spoon" cafes and tourist spots in Daintree, Whet was a very pleasant surprise. It was a beautiful location, had a very professional and friendly staff, and the food was great. My wife has dairy allergies, and they were glad to make a special meal for her that was delicious. The head chef then came out and ask how it was. I would strongly recommend Whets Cafe to anyone in the Cape Tribulation area who wants a break from the common tourist cafe.

We had a great experience. There was a very friendly waitress who took our drinks order straight away and quickly returned with our drinks. She took our food order and similarly the food came quickly.
This was excellent food. The Barramundi was the best that we’ve had in the last week from palm cove through port Douglas to here.
Given we had 9 adults 3 children and a baby the restaurant responded expertly. We absolutely recommend.

I didn't find it incredible. I already found that it stank on the terrace.. A little annoying when you want to eat..
I had fish & chips, and the fries were really bad.
As a drink I had a solo, which was served to me in a small glass… so no cans… for the price it’s a bit annoying I think.

I cannot fathom what has happened here. The website portrays a beautiful food menu, an inventive cocktail menu, and looks like a bit of gold dust in the middle of cape tribulation.
Upon arrival at lunch time the doors were closed (opening hours on google incorrect) when eventually opened we were told there was no chef for another hour but there were ‘some sandwiches in the fridge’ that looked like they’d been sat there for a while. The drinks menu had 3 drinks on it, all of which were terrible cocktails. The backbar was covered in dust.
We chose to leave, and so did the couple behind us. I’m going to guess this has been taken over by new owners. What an utter disappointment. I can’t see this place being open much longer. Head further up less than 5 minutes to Turtle Rock, fresh food and friendly staff.

Entree calamari was rubbery. Bed of Salad wilted.
Mains were ok.
We ordered the seafood linguini and lentil stew with rice.
Serving sizes were good.
Linguini was average and not worth $30 bucks
Rice with lentil stew was stale and cooked unevenly and luke warm. Not worth $27
Desserts took over 40 mins due to lack of staff. When the crepes came they were swimming in additional “juice”
Not worth the $208 price tag

When we were walking past, my husband and I went up to make a reservation for dinner that evening, we were rudely and abruptly greeted by sorry we are closed and it wasn’t when I said can I make a reservation for dinner in the evening the attitude of the waiter changed. Deciding to give the benefit of doubt as Whet was recommended to us we made a booking for 5pm and was told to turn up a little past 5.
My husband and I turned up at 5:15 with no one to be seen we decided to go for a walk and turned back up at 5:35, when given the menu I asked for the pizza menu the lady serving us said in a condescending tone are you sure you are not meant to be at the camp ground where I replied we made a reservation before going to get the menus. When she came back she informed us that the person who makes the pizzas is running half an hour late, which was fine so we ordered an entree. When the entree arrived there was very little product knowledge no explanation of what were the trio of dips or any cutlery or side dishes. When we asked for cutlery it never made it to the table.
When the lady returned to take the order. we went to order some pizzas and was told the person who makes the pizzas was still 20 or so minutes away and recommended a place to go down the road - the only redeeming factor of this underwhelming experience. Basic product knowledge and customer service and organisation for a dinner service eg having a table set for customers would improve the overall experience.

We’ve been up in the Daintree many times and unfortunately feel sad that after Covid things have slipped here. Not very welcoming staff from the bar of kitchen. One wait lady was lovely enough.
The menu we thought we were getting wasn’t available so there was no vegan option, luckily the wait staff said they could do something. The food is tasty enough but probably not worth the price. Cocktails are pretty average, not very strong or nicely decorated. Wines list that I had to ask for was very basic with no descriptions.
The atmosphere out on the deck is the main redeeming factor. Used to be a great fine dining place with a theatre back in the day, now it’s very casual.

The location was gorgeous! Beautifully set up on a high deck with the natural sounds around you but unfortunately that’s were the good experience ended.
The food was very bland and very expensive in comparison to other restaurants in the area
We understand that they are a bit out of the way and have additional costs but when you are paying $32-$50 for a main if should have some flavour.
Neither meals were finished by us
Also I made the mistake of not asking for the brand of wine and ordered a bottle
Very wrong decision, a $15 bottle of wine charged at $45 and tasted horrible
I have told my husband check review before booking somewhere
We actually went and ate somewhere else after our experience

We ate at Whet for our one night in Cape Tribulation. The chef was very accomodating to my request of the pipis to be served without the pasta. Very tasty and happy he was obliging. Our mains were also very tasty. Great value and wine was near bottle shop prices. It was at the end of our dining experience that we were disappointed. We asked the waitress ( whilst she was talking to a guy at the bar) if we could order a night cap cocktail. She replied she could but she didn’t come back to our table ( that was also needing clearing) to ask for our order. We waited for some time but she was too busy in conversation to check on what we wanted - like she has knocked of for the night. So we paid whilst she was still at the bar and left. This put a little dampener to our otherwise great dining experience.

I think it is fair to say that you don't expect great food in an out of the way tourist destination, so Whet at Cape Tribulation was a very pleasant surprise! We stopped for lunch and were met with a warm greeting, ice cold drinks and very fresh, tasty food. I had the burger, which was great quality and perfectly cooked, down to the chips being house cut and also perfect, my wife had an Asian Buddha Bowl with wild Barramundi and was similarly impressed. Seating is outside on a deck surrounded by the Daintree.....this is a great restaurant that deserves your custom!

Very average food. My partners steak was cooked well done, meant to be medium, veggies were still hard. My pasta had no flavour, just a mix of bacon, pasta and a couple pieces of chicken. Very expensive for what you get, like a child had thrown it together.

This was a lovely dining experience. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his entree of pork and scallops and his main meal of rib fillet steak (5 stars). His espresso martini was excellent as well. As a vegetarian I was really disappointed with the only option - a dry chickpea curry. I could only eat half (3 stars - barely passable). Service and surroundings were great.

We had lunch at Whet as part of a Daintree Adventure tour with Back Country Bliss (separate review). Before arriving, we had been given the option of one of the lunch menu Buddha Bowls so that they could be quickly available on arrival - both my hub and I opted for the Thai bowl with chicken, which was delicious. Some people couldn't finish their bowls - they are real value for money. The setting was lovely and the service prompt. I would happily return to explore more of the area and the menu.

In my view the number one restaurant in Cape Tribulation though can’t say competition is fierce with only one other place that offers something as a dining experience. That aside, Whet does have an atmosphere in the midst of the rainforest which is unbeatable. The food options while a little limited for some, I certainly enjoyed the burger I had for lunch. Have to be one of the best burgers I have had for some time. Currently the restaurant is only open for lunch as the wet season seems to have most places shutting up. I suspect in the busier times it would have that added atmosphere and a dinner venue for those staying in the Daintree region.
