It must be incredibly difficult to run a small restaurant in a fairly isolated region of Australia with a pandemic thrown in for good measure that severely restricts passing clientele. That said, when good money is paid for a restaurant meal, you look for a...good meal, good location and good staff. As other reviewers have noted, the menu is quite limited and on our night, the specials had all gone within 30 minutes of opening. I had the fish and chips (barra) and my partner a salad bowl with chicken tenders. Add in a curry, and that is about the current menu with variations on the salad bowls. The fish was mainly batter, but pleasant tasting. The salad was okay as salads go, but nothing special. The location is quite lovely and the service seemed flustered, especially as our booking had been lost. If you are in Cape Trib, by all means support the local businesses and Whet. I notice the business is for sale, so there is a chance for someone to buy it and return it to its earlier written about glory. I must admit we were a little disappointed as it did not reflect the wonderful reviews, but perhaps we visited on not a good night. Please note it is currently only open Monday to Friday so check if relying on its opening times for a meal.More

We ate at Whet for our one night in Cape Tribulation. The chef was very accomodating to my request of the pipis to be served without the pasta. Very tasty and happy he was obliging. Our mains were also very tasty. Great value and wine...was near bottle shop prices. It was at the end of our dining experience that we were disappointed. We asked the waitress ( whilst she was talking to a guy at the bar) if we could order a night cap cocktail. She replied she could but she didn’t come back to our table ( that was also needing clearing) to ask for our order. We waited for some time but she was too busy in conversation to check on what we wanted - like she has knocked of for the night. So we paid whilst she was still at the bar and left. This put a little dampener to our otherwise great dining experience.More

Good food, and really friendly service ! A little gem in the middle of daintree rainforest:) They also offer a selection of gluten and dairy free desserts which was a nice addition if you were craving for something extra after dinner.

Great food and a unique location. When you arrive you walk a few meters through the rainforest. A great way to start and end a fabulous meal! Food was high quality and carefully prepared. Very delicious. Prices are reasonable given the location. Staff are friendly...and attentive. Prawn curry and fresh Barra were great. Recommend!!More

The food was overrated, both my friends had the fish and chips and they both said it was the worst fish and chips they ever had. I myself had the curry which was okay. But the WORST thing was the service. One of the staff...(guy and short hair), was so rude. He didn't have a welcome face or good attitude to us, his face was like we did something terrible to him, and when I paid for our lunch, not a word, no Thank You and not even a smile!! FYI, it was our 1st trip to Far North Queensland, we had big expectation to this restaurant because someone recommended us to go to Whet Rest on our way to Cape Tribulation, we checked the review on Trip Advisor it was not too bad, but we shouldn't have listened and even went there.More

This open aired restaurant is in a beautiful location in the heart of the Daintree, most dining area set on a large balcony. Limited menu options, no entrees apart from bread, and out of the 7 main choices, three were Buddha bowls and two curries....Which made it annoying that when we ordered the chicken curry, we were told, sorry, I should have told you that wasn’t available when you sat down. Well, yeah. Food was quite tasty and plentiful. Our experience was marred by the female waiter who I can only describe as being a little unfriendly and borderline rude. As if she was slightly “put out” by us being there. Made to wait at entrance for slightly too long, before being taken to our table. Wine bottle placed on table but not poured. When asked if we could see the dessert menu, she stated we don’t have one, and then just walked away. Maybe offer a tea/coffee instead? In this world of COVID and unpredictability, there’s no room for bad vibes.More

I think it is fair to say that you don't expect great food in an out of the way tourist destination, so Whet at Cape Tribulation was a very pleasant surprise! We stopped for lunch and were met with a warm greeting, ice cold drinks...and very fresh, tasty food. I had the burger, which was great quality and perfectly cooked, down to the chips being house cut and also perfect, my wife had an Asian Buddha Bowl with wild Barramundi and was similarly impressed. Seating is outside on a deck surrounded by the Daintree.....this is a great restaurant that deserves your custom!More

We enjoyed a really tasty meal at Whet while staying in Cape Trib. The curry and buddha bowls are highly recommended and it was great to try a local XPA craft beer. Service was quick and friendly and it was nice to sit out on...the deck amongst the rainforest.More

Quite busy when we arrived but we were greeted and seated quickly. Perhaps a bit of confusion saw us the the dinner menu which lacked items that some others seemed to be ordering but still enjoyed the choices we made. Curries were very tasty (not...hot) and Buddha bowl was filling. Good yo see gluten free options availableMore

Good food. They were very busy which might affected the hospitality but food was really good. We ordered veg curry, chicken curry and few dishes from kids menu. Both curries were really good. My daughter did not like her pasta from kids menu as it...was cold n bland. Overall good food, relaxed atmosphere good cocktails.More
