Oh wow my hunt was such a success. You gotta try this place

We heard about this amazing pub when looking for cool things around the area and we so were not disappointed we gave it a try. To start the staff were so nice, on the ball and were able to make good on a dietary requirement I have that many others have trouble with. Next the prices were so bloody reasonable even I could not complain (I am a bit stingy) Finally - I have travelled all over Australia and overseas and it is my thing to try all the local pies to find who does the best. Previously the record of best pie IMO was a little bakery in Marion SA. This place has now defeated that record and I have to say there beef and mushroom pie was perfection in every bite! Thank you to the staff and owner for such an amazing experience.

Food, Entertainment, Drinks, great staff - they have it covered!

We had been having our evening drinks every night at this lovely pub during our visit to Bowen, then decided to extend our stay one night so we could do dinner at Musical Bingo last Wednesday night. Are we glad we did! The bistro dinner was amazing - my husband took the spaghetti and asked to add prawns, not a problem, and it was such a lovely dish, he said it was the best pasta he had ever had, I would have to concur. My eye fillet with veg and mash was also excellent - beautifully cooked medium rare as requested and no boring steamed veg, instead they were roasted and so tasty. Musical Bingo is held in one of the back, outdoor sections, and it was a hoot. The compere moved it along nicely and encouraged audience participation, keeping it interesting with drink tickets as prizes. We didnt win, but had such a good time! Special note re staff - everyone is so lovely and cant do enough for you. We will be back to Bowen, it is a town with heart & soul and the Grand View is in the centre of that!

60th Bithday/ Class Reunion

We have just celebrated our 60th Birthday/Class Reunion at the Grand view. There were 105 attendees who partied on until wee hours out in the Markee/ Beer garden. Chef Louise worked with me all the way through the process to come up with the perfect selection for our buffet dinner. All night and the following day everyone was raving about the food and how beautifully everything was cooked, especially the steaks that melted in your mouth. Well done and thank you Louise 💖 I also have to mention Sandy. I had no idea Sandy was from admin. When there was a struggle with the seating numbers Sandy was right there and stepped in like a little events coordinater and got it sorted. You little legend 🙏🤩 So if anyone is looking at a big function you will not regret it if you chose the Grandview. Every single person from the reunion had a great night, Thank you, Thank you 🥳🎉 Odette Caldwell

Hmmmmm.....probably won't be back

So ordered 2 x calamari, admittedly salt and pepper, couldn't really taste the calamari. But the worst part, ordered a 200g rib fillet, all I could taste was pepper. When I asked about it I was told they always season with salt and pepper, honestly was more pepper. All I could bloody well taste, was pepper. The steak was cooked perfectly, I got the duty manager out, and he asked me what the problem was. I told him I ordered a steak, not a peppered steak. I asked him for a refund, but he couldn't do that, as they always season their steaks. Honestly I've never had a good steak here, so my fault, but won't be back......So much for the customer being right.

Average food, overpriced, don’t bother

Very average food which was overpriced. I wouldn’t bother eating here any longer. We’ve eaten here twice before this month and loved it. However new management have introduced a new menu and changed the kitchen. I had a beetroot goats cheese salad with prawns. It was a really small serve for the price of $34. Plus the prawns tasted horrible (so strange when Bowen is known for great seafood!) Hubby had the bangers and mash which was standard pub grub level but nothing like what we had before. New Management - please stop being cheapskates and return the food to what it was.

Not smart staff and overpriced food

Staff don’t listen to orders wine or food, had to keep correcting them. $27 for 6x oysters kilpatrick they were the size of my thumb nail, and the sauce on them no idea what it was, but wasn’t bbq of any sort. Don’t do crumbed steak as a meal but do it in a sandwich…. What ever, and the chicken parmy was soggy served with Deb mash and I asked for salad but got coleslaw, can’t stand the stuff. Also I had to chase up the gravy. Never will retun been disappointed twice now.

Disgraceful food and customer service

We are locals. We used to eat here all the time. The last 3 visits (to give them another go) have greatly disappointed us. Paying good money for a steak, and portion sizes are smaller than masterchef and veges overcooked. The battered fish was overcooked, dry and burned. Upon raising this each time with the staff, their attitude was less than acceptable. The last time we ate there was 7 months ago, we turned up at 1150am and ordered as soon as possible, it took them almost 2 hours to serve the disgusting food to us. No sorry, no credits or returned monies, they simply did not care. Vowed never to go back, and never will! The fact they didn't respond well, I have spread the word to my many friends and visitors to avoid this place. If you choose to eat here - hope your meals are better and you actually get a smile from staff. Have a beer here and go!

Pub lunch - not so special..

Was driving through Bowen so though I'd find a nice pub for lunch. There was nice outlook from the pub and it was nice on the inside. Was surprised the Friday lunch 'special' was a $30 crumbed steak - decided to have a crack at it and was expecting big things (I've eaten a few crumbed steaks out west in my time and it'd wanna be bloody good for that price....) Problem is it never arrived, I waited patiently for over half an hour then noticed patrons who came in after me receiving their meals so I followed up with the kitchen staff – ‘um, the order got missed’ excuse and casualness of kitchen staff didn’t cut it for me so I requested a refund and left disappointed. It appears that is definitely hit and miss, I missed out on this occasion – I hope you have a better experience.

Visited based on good reviews. The restaurant is a very nice room overlooking the ocean. Initial service was very good. Our meals unfortunately were not. My wife had the seafood gnocchi which was covered in Parmesan cheese. No Italian chief would even think of adding Parmesan cheese to seafood - it overpowers it. I had the beef schnitzel which turned out to be possibly the worst schnitzel I’ve had. It was soggy and the crumbs were sour. When our waitress collected our plates I started explaining how we were unhappy with the meals (I ate only a third of my meal) and got a “no worries” as she just walked away. We decided to just pay the bill and leave however when my wife got the bill we were charged for a bottle of wine instead of a glass. A great finish to the night.

Better places to go for meals only thing here is the view and history of hotel

Very basic menu and basic food Returned to Bowen for a visit to find that GV has gone down hill as far as menu, ordered a pizza got a dry burnt tasteless pizza with inadequate topping. Chicken snitzel and chips no salad no toppings were included, entree available was limited and basic.Staff could have been more friendly. Wont be visiting again not worth the money.

Very disappointing

Made a booking for lunch, drove 50mins to have lunch with family, turned up on time only to be told our table had been given to someone else who had just walked in without a booking. Food was very disappointing, kids spaghetti looked and tasted like tin food. The nachos with pulled beef were the worst nachos I have ever had, paid an extra $5 for the pulled beef which was not much and looked like rubber, very tough to eat. The only decent thing was the cold beers. Definitely would not recommend for a nice meal.

Certainly gone downhill over time. Booked a table and it was given to someone else. Meal ordered and waited 45 mins after watching cooks throwing food at one another and eating lollies , making no effort to hurry Meal was nice but service was nothing g to write home about. Disappointed as this has been a favourite lunch place

A terrible experience

We both had the pork belly. I always thought that pork belly had some meat on it. Not Herr. It tasted like grilled pork fat. The toilets here were the worst smelling ones in Bowen. Overall a terrible experience

A Grand Hotel

This was our second visit after a positive experience when passing through Bowen a couple of years ago , and definitely not disappointed. Had a few drinks in the bar , very busy as it was Friday afternoon. Donated to some local sporting groups through raffle tickets and the ventured to the restaurant. Steak was spot on with charring on the outside and medium inside , full of flavour. Peppercorn sauce was also good . Creamy coleslaw is not my favourite but ok. The other dish was Red Emperor fish which had a good flavour. The accompanying sauces were delicious. The red pickled onion on top was excessive but can be removed. Beer was cold , service and food good. Great dinner.

Get the pork belly…you’ll thank me!

Excellent food that warrants being a little pricey. A nice dining room environment, and we loved that drinks from the bar could also be ordered from the waitress. The toilets were good for a pub. The highlight of everything though was the twice cooked pork belly with several unusual other components that made it the most delicious pork belly dish i can remember having. It was amazing!
