Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Probably not the best option available in town. From the exterior it looks great, lovely vine clad verandah and trendy looking people strolling past. They say don’t judge a book by its cover and this is so true here! Inside is a haphazard jumble of...sticky tables and wobbly chairs. The food…overpriced and underwhelming. $14 for a few carrots on top of the main course cost. For $14, we got a full feed which was fantastic just a few doors away at the unassuming chicken shop! Definitely know where I’ll be returning to.More

Hadn’t been here for ages after a bad previous experience, unfortunately nothing has changed, in fact this place has got worse. Food and service simply awful.

We used to frequent this place quite a lot when we had a house in Daylesford and their wood fired pizzas, amongst other lovely menu items were superb, the atmosphere was cosy and the staff always lovely. Now recently, we have been on two occasions...and have decided that enough is enough. The fire still gives some cosy atmosphere but the staff are uninterested and worst of all, the wood fired pizza oven which used to produce fabulous pizzas now lays dormant while they serve very average, sloppy, doughy pizza renditions! What used to be a definite go-to in Daylesford has sadly now seen better days under I presume new management! Sad.More

DISGUSTING and DISGRACEFUL behaviour by the OWNER and POOR QUALITY food. I am giving this restaurant 1 rating out of 5 because of our disappointing experienced when dining today, 9 April 2023. It was not just because of the DRY and TASTELESS Snapper fillet cost...$39 and the oily Calamari rings entree size for $24, but most of all the DISGUSTING and DISGRACEFUL treatment I received from the OWNER of the KOUKLA CAFE when I politely and discreetly approached him to give our comments about the quality of the dishes served to us. Please note that one of the staff serving us confirmed that the guy behind the coffee machine wearing a checkered shirt is the OWNER of the cafe. I politely asked the OWNER wearing a checkered shirt, if I can give my comments about the Snapper fish, BUT before I can even finish, he RUDELY interrupted me by saying "The FISH was DRY!" and he started LAUGHING while saying "So You want me to shoot her" - pointing at a girl wearing a chef or cook uniform with an ASIAN background. He repeatedly said again while laughing "You want me to shoot her, she cooked the fish". All I can hear was laughing not just by him but all his staff around him including a tall bald guy standing next to me. I told them again in a polite manner 'You may think this is funny, but this is not funny for someone who just paid $39 for your dry tasteless fish and a bill of nearly $140.00, who is obviously an UNHAPPY customer who will never come back and recommend this caFE. He and his staff were still laughing while we were leaving the restaurant. This is not the way a customer should be treated especially since I paid our bills accordingly. All I wanted was to provide my comments which may help lift the standard of their dishes. The behavior of the OWNER of the CAFE KOUKLA and his staff is unacceptable and appalling. Instead of acknowledging my comments, he laughed at me, responded to my feedback sarcastically, and disrespected and humiliated the poor young lady chef or cook.More

I won't recommend this Cafe in Daylesford. We didn't mind waiting long time for our food as it was a Public Holiday. But when the food came it was a big disappointment. Ordered snapper fillet ($39) - it was rubbery and tasteless. I had to...put lots of salt and pepper so I can finish the fish. As I was finishing my meal I over heard a customer complained about the fish being tasteless and everyone in the kitchen just laughed at the customer. I was appalled after hearing how the staff responded to the customer.Obvious they didn't take the complain seriously.More

Qr code, no service, appalling food , uncomfortable chairs Expensive and not worth a cent We were a party of 15 that I booked weeks ago we all ordered on the QR code deserts came before entrees. They kept bringing random meals to our table...that no one had ordered. The food was truly disgusting. Seafood linguine was particularly disappointing. The beetroot salad was beetroot out of the tin. It was so disgusting. We complained but we had already paid individually on our QR codes so we just left. The management didn’t care anyway because they already had our money. Don’t waste your time or money at this placeMore

I ordered roast beetroot and Feta salad...was very obvious that the beetroot was out of a tin, the Feta was really off! A massive food safety concern serving up off dairy products. The chicken pieces off the entree list were dry and cleary from a...packet. When paying for our meal I was told that the beetroot salad was taken off and also my sons tomato sugo pasta too, (soggy and ordinary) only later to find out whilst looking at the receipt and the pasta was still on it. They said normally they would have given us our drinks for free but we just ordered soft drink.... normally !! Omg. Apparently this happens often. The remainder of our family's meals were also ordinary, cheap frozen powdery chips as sides for the meals. The burger was the only think that was decent.More

Eggs Benedict extremely disappointing. Expensive, overcooked (hard boiled), very ordinary presentation- literally 2 eggs plus ham on a muffin. The most surprising was the listing of ‘free range egg’ for $3 as a side! So $22 for cage eggs? 3 people at our table of...four ordered eggs Benedict and all were overcooked- I wasn’t just unlucky.More

We have dinner here on a number of occasions and usually finding the service very slow. Nevertheless, we like the space and keep giving it a go! Our most recent visit was humiliating & disgraceful! We made arrangements for a table for 2 for the...restaurant. Nevertheless, upon arrival, we were escorted from the restaurant and sat in the cafe which was horrible ! Not once did the person explain to us where he was taking us, before we know it we were moved from the restaurant into a cafe! The tables still had plates from brunch, dirty floors and the waitress looked at us with dismay! Another couple, same thing happened! When I went back into the restaurant to discuss the issue, I was spoken down to being told they were booked out! The restaurant was 2/4 empty, it was 1.30pm, clearly understaffed with no apology whatsoever! Although the food is overpriced, we still have supported the business upon each visit which is frequently and always spend $$$ if this is how regulars are being treated, I have nothing positive to promote about your business! Arrogance!More

Was reviewing this restaurant as some time since I visited and had a disastrous situation occur after complaining about flat head fillets being plural and one small piece appeared. Our food was taken away in front of our eyes and were told they were sick...of customers complaining. Obviously after reading the recent reviews nothing has changed. I’d hang my head in shame and get out of the restaurant business if this was my establishment. I notice the management replies take no responsibility for bad experience What a blight on the restaurant scene in DayelsfordMore

We frequent this restaurant as it's often the only place where you can get in and they seem to be lucky enough to have staff. The staff are friendly but their knowledge of the food being served is limited. We have always found the service...pretty quick (on a week night). However, it is very pricy for what it is. The seafood linguini has a measly quantity of seafood and more like the traditional primo serve than a main. Ditto the ravioli. On the current menu there is a particularly weird concoction consisting of a small piece of baked salmon swimming in a tasteless green creamy sauce with pureed spinach and lumpy pieces of fried leek. Not sure what the chef was thinking but it did not work. The addition of some lemon juice might have helped. Price for two people; mains only, two glasses of wine and one bottle of red $175.More
