This is a largely unspoilt, traditional country pub. The menu is as you would expect in such a place, but the food was excellent. The steak was delicious but the dripping cooked chips were exceptional. In my view, many pubs underestimate the importance of getting the chips right. Cooking in dripping allows the chips to be finished off at a... More

We enjoyed our drinks more than the food, the beer was well kept but my steak was a little tough and the peppercorn sauce quite odd. The staff were friendly and the open fire warm and welcoming. They can do better and I think they need to do so.

Just stopped off for lunch. We were the first customers of the day. Food was delicious and portions very generous. We'll definitely be back next time we go to Sheffield. Would highly recommend.

We had just completed a 10 mile walk on the Kinder plateau and were driving home to Congleton where we knew a pub that would serve lunch in the middle of the afternoon on a Monday when we passed The Anchor. It was already 3pm, we were hungry and the "All Day Cooking" sign was just too tempting. We were... More

My family and me visited this pub on a lunchtime and really struck on a gem. We called in to The Anchor due to another pub in Tideswell saying most of the pubs in the area didn't do food on a Monday. The Anchor did and what a great place too. It was a bleak, very wet and very windy... More

We visited the Anchor for our mothers 60th party. Unfortunately there was no ambiance in the room that we were in no effort was made for our attendance. The bar and restaurant its self looked warm and cosy. The food coing out looked amazing. We had a buffer which was good. But plates were cold. The room could be used... More

Had a drink here after a bonfire one snowy evening. Friendly bar man, good choice of drinks, décor was brilliant. Felt like you were in a ship with wood panelling, knots everywhere, old photos of local people and places plus speciality rum bottles used as candlesticks on the tables. My partner was even offered the choice of his pint of... More
