Stayed here on a walking holiday. On the recommendation of the locals had one of the pies which was excellent. Food very tasty and portions huge. Beer also well kept. You can eat in the bar area or in a more 'restaurant' format. Personally I'd go for the bar as it is a fantastic old pub going back to the... More

The interior feels like a typical British pub. Service was friendly and the clientele appeared to be mostly locals. There was a good selection of local beers on tap and I had no idea which to select. The bartender immediately solved my dilemma by bringing out 6 glasses and giving me a sample of each. I believe I chose the... More

A group of 7 of us booked in for 2 night stay last weekend, and had the misfortune of meeting one of the most unfriendly and unwelcoming manageresses we've ever encountered! From the outset her total attitude towards us at the bar and in general was one of disdain and disinterest verging on rudeness, and to the point that we... More

Fine establishment offering extremely well kept ales ( Barnsley bitter is a treat!) within great traditional surroundings. The food on offer is good old 'Stick-to-your-ribs' pub-grub, especially the innkeepers plate pie. It's a dog-friendly pub, and it's there for the locals... If you're looking for that 'Let's all have prosecco' while Tarquin & Jonquil run riot nursery/ pub nonsense, this... More

We stopped at the pub after doing the Cave Dale and Mam Tor walk from Castleton. When we entered the pub it was like stepping back in time. We found a cosy atmosphere in an old traditional pub decor. This was exactly what we were hoping for as we were really hungry and exhausted. I ordered a well deserved steak... More

Cajun chicken was lovely. Great onion rings and chunky chips. Salsa was also lovely. White chocolate cheesecake a hit and the Bakewell tart was also lovely. Would recommended. Bar section was busy. Would recommend booking!

Called in for an evening meal on Sunday night and were only just in time as they stop serving food at 8:15pm on quiz night. We had sausage and mash and lamb's liver bacon and mash, which were delicious. There was a good selection of ales and the staff were friendly. We stayed for the quiz which was a bit... More
