I have driven past this Pub many times and have been put off from calling in due to the apparent lack of car parking. However on this occasion we arrived from the direction of Kirby Stephen and discovered at the rear of the premises is a decent sized car park. We arrived late afternoon and having ascertained food is served... More

Friendly staff. Good beer. Tremendous home-made steak pie, followed by excellent black currant crumble. Highly recommended. Can't wait to return.

Arrived late Sunday afternoon. The Inn is clean and recently refurbished. Owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming but I am guessing are new to the trade. The local real ales are fantastic and well kept. The pub food is basic fare but the portion sizes are good. There were no other potatoes except 'roasties', but they were deep... More

Stayed here twice this year once for two days in July on my own and an overnight stop in September with my wife. The accommodation is quite good albeit a tad basic but the pub and restaurant are superb. The steak pie is magnificent, make sure you are actually starving before you start as it tastes great and there is... More

Excellent home cooked food and plenty of it. Well worth a visit and we will be back again. Revamp is really good and has completely opened up the interior. It is bright and aired. Good value and what pub food should be.

Called in for evening meal at 6pm and were given a warm welcome. Both starters (pea and ham soup and prawn cocktail) were delicious. Our mains of scampi, chips and peas and steak pie, new potatoes and peas were large portions and very tasty - just what was needed and very good value. I whole-heartedly recommend this inn for its... We arrived late on Sat evening to find the place packed to the rafters both inside & out with approx 80 Fell Walkers/ Runners who had just arrived about 30 mins beforehand as well as others eating. We made our way to the bar to book in and were met with the welcoming owner who showed us to our lovely... More

We found this place last year & were looking forward to a return visit for the fantastic food & characterful owners. The pub has changed hands and has certainly been cleaned up and altered, but it's lost its unique ambiance. The lovely welcoming fireplace next to the (old position) of the bar has gone and has been replaced by an... More

Home cooked English pub meals. One of very few where you can have proper sit down and warm & tasty meal. There are lots of comfortable chairs to choose from, too.
