Located just to the left of the middle of no where is Xcalak. The only way you're ever going to be there is if you make an effort to get way off the beaten path. Since I seem to suffer from some affliction which drives...More

So we arrive in Xcalak, dusty after the drive, and hungry after turning into the cruise ship dock rather than the town strip when we said, on the drive, "We're hungry, let's eat in Mahaul." The Caribe is open, looking deserted at 4 in the...More

Freddie, the owner and chef, was charming and gracious. The food was fabulous! We heard about the paella from the local dive shop, so we stopped by and asked if he would have any that evening. No problem. When we arrived he had our table...More

Freddie is a great cook, best food I found in the area. Lobster tails to die for. Do not get to exotic or demanding, he is a retired expat and he may just take the next day off.
