We stopped here for a quick lunch and really enjoyed our meals. Great sandwiches and salads. I would definitely recommend it to others.

We arrived at this cafe just before it was closing (closes at 6pm, which is a bit odd because that's dinnertime). The lentil soup was chili-like and very tasty. Cheddar biscuits tasted fresh, even at the end of the day, and the sandwiches were good. They brought some little gummy candies for the kids for dessert. The best part was... More

On a recent motorcycle trip through Cape Breton Island, my wife and I stopped at the Herring Choker. We loved it. Tasty cappuccino, a wide-variety of pastries made in house, wi-fi, and a deck out front. We especially liked the chocolate-chocolate-chip cookies. Judging by the number who came in for take-out while we were there, the place is popular with... More

My man and I each ordered a sandwich each. While waiting quite a long time for them we started picking out other little goodies to go with it. Then we over heard a man and his wife order only a tea and a biscuit each and got charged a crazy amount. After we heard what they paid for theirs we... More

Staff was friendly. Clubs were amazing that are made with homemade bread. The cheesy broccoli soup needed some work. I was told it was creamy but it just tasted like blended broccoli. No hint of cheese or cream/milk. I couldn't finish it. Left half of it or more in bowl. The gypsy soup on the other hand was delightful. Tomato... More

We were driving through the area and stopped to get a sandwich for a picnic later in the day. The ingredients are fresh. Their bread is wonderful. The sandwich was so big that we decided to just get one, to share. we had the roast beef - very tasty!

The bread is awesome and the ingredients always fresh. Our family has pretty much sampled everything they serve at one time or another and, despite favorites, all are agreed that everything is good. My favorites is the Herring Choker Club on multigrain bread and my spouse has to have a veggie special on multigrain with regularity. Among the grandchildren the... More

The Mrs and I often grab some grub the way by. Often on our way hiking or kayaking in the area. Sandwiches and breakfast wraps are hearty and flavorful. Squares and oat cakes are killer! Staff are always friendly and chatty. Love this little place!

Our local hosts said we had to stop for lunch sandwiches at the Herring Choker. Colorful name, great sandwiches. I had ham and aged gouda on sourdough rye (they make their breads), with just the right amount of mustard and mayo. They know what they are doing. My wife, who has tuna salad "everywhere" pronounced her curried tuna sandwich "the... More
