Orders were quickly taken and promptly delivered. We’ve dined here on countless occasions, and the experiences were always positive in past times. The ambience was pleasant and inviting.
The most recent dinner we had last Sunday, was disappointing as the portion served did not match the price. For $38, there was a small slice of barramundi skin on, not very fresh. It was served with sweet sauces/ chutney, some salad and supposedly creamy risotto. The risotto was far from “creamy”.
A savoury dinner would be what one would expect. If it is intended to be a sweetish dinner, the menu should be clear.
There are limited dining venues in York, and we hope that you’ll be your best, like you were before.

Great food when visiting this beautiful town.
The food is top notch, a good variety and well cooked. One meal was not quite right but as soon as the staff became aware they insisted it was replaced.
The service staff were helpful and very good at updating us on when to expect the food.
Good selection of drinks available at reasonable prices.

We ate here for 2 meals - a dinner for 6 and lunch on footy day for 4. It’s not cheap but is great quality and large portions. The chicken was superb, as was the parmi. The starter menu was also really good - Brie, chorizo, chips, onion rings and garlic bread. There is a seniors menu as well. Staff in the front bar were a scream and we had great fun. Good choice of wines and beers. Nice outdoor area as well.

Hands down the worst meal and service I've have since being in WA for 3 weeks holiday.
Waited nearly 40 mins for our food which was inedible......steaks were tough, chips looked as though they had been reheated and a handful of limp salad. We complained about the steaks but to no avail.
Five members of staff hanging around an almost empty restaurant (I wonder why!!!), some eating behind the bar (not a good look).
Do not got here

We were attracted by the exterior grandeur of this hotel and booked for dinner. Although the service was a little slow, the meals of lamb shanks and chicken satay were very tasty and quite filling. We had no room left for the delicious desserts on offer. Our only disappointment was the noisy area where we were seated, near the ordering counter. Had we realised that there were other dining areas we would have gone there and enjoyed a quieter meal. We'll probably try that if we return to York.

I ordered a meal and was told every table in the restaurant was reserved.
( By the time I left no one had turned up to sit at any tables in the restaurant)
I had to sit out the front being entertained by mosquitoes whilst waiting for my meal.
My meal well what can I say my salad had no tomato and only 1 slice of capsicum.
Knife and fork was in a dusty Ikea pot, no serviettes.
The chicken snitzel that I paid $32.50 for was not nice. I couldn't eat it all.
I left most of the salad that was limp and not fresh.
I should of gone to one of the other hotels and saved myself $10 for the same meal, not impressed being charged $7 for 1 can of lemonade with some lemon bitters and ice added to it.
I thought I would give this impressive hotel a try I've heard meals are hit and miss.
Well mine was a MISS
I won't be eating there again.
I would not recommend any one go there.
I like to support local York businesses this business however I will not support again.

This is a bit of a strange place but popular nonetheless. We made a dinner booking and it was probably good that we did because the place was rather busy. Reserved tables abounded. I suspect the popularity is not so much that it's a wonderful restaurant but that is is one of the few places to get an evening meal in York.
The restaurant is in the Imperial pub but it's not obviously marked. The restaurant is actually to the left as you enter the front door but you have to continue ahead to the bar where there is another eating area. More casual than the restaurant. This is where you order but first you will be given menus and taken through to your table. Queueing can be a bit tedious if your timing is off. Staff weren't particularly fussed about serving customers based on our initial experience although that did improve later.
Our food arrived after a lengthy delay although there were others later who seemed to wait even longer. It was York Festival time but they appeared to be a bit overwhelmed. That said, the food was ok.
My fish and chips was enormous with two large pieces of fish. The chips looked to be home prepared and were tasty. My wife's Wagyu burger may have been Wagyu but was tasty whatever it was. Maybe a tad overcooked.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Drinks were very cheap with wine being served above a standard size drink. At least ours were!

We were very much looking forward to our meal at the Imperial Homestead as we’d heard about the refurbishment and it was the 135th birthday. We waited an hour for a soggy chicken burger, 15 mins later my chicken caesar appeared, the three tiny pieces of chicken were so dry and rubbery if I’d have thrown a piece at the wall, it would have bounced right back at me. My daughter’s popcorn chicken looked like it had been deep fried at least half a dozen times. Everyone around us was equally disappointed. The waitress was really nice and did the best she could. The food is very limited in York, Imperial need to up their game for the prices they charge.

Stopped in here for lunch on a warm Friday arvo. Keen for a frosty pint 🍺 and a steak sambo I duly ordered said duo and found myself a seat outside to enjoy the weather.
Good selection of beers and super friendly and helpful staff made for a great experience. The place has a historic but not rustic feel and is a beautiful old pub.
At $35 for a pint and steak sambo I was expecting much but to be honest the sandwich was average. Ni bad just average with a roll (FFS when is someone actually going to do a steak SANDWICH with actual slices of bread) that was very plain and what looked like plastic cheese but may not have been. Did have nice flavour but ended up pulling it apart and eating it without the bun. Chips were okay but a long way from the best I’ve ever had.
To summarise, great service, cool pub but pretty average steak sambo.

We chose to have our meal, sitting at the brown lounge, to be told that wasn’t permitted. Ordered our meal, which we thought was overpriced, but we were on holiday and so threw caution to the wind. After waiting a while for our meal, a sign was then placed on the bar saying there would be an hour wait for food. I approached the bar, asking if our meal was going to take that long as we had already placed our order. I was met with a rather rude woman. I obtained a refund on our meal, and left, never to return. An incredibly negative experience. The attitude of staff in any business goes a long way to attracting repeat customers, positive reviews and recommendations to friends. The Imperial Homestead deserves none of these.

Firstly, why is it impossible to have breakfast after 11 am?
Secondly, after ordering "scones", 1 very small scone was served. When we asked for one more plain scone they charged $5.50 for a scone (no jam and cream) that that was 50-60 mm in diameter and 30 mm high. The bruschetta was cold and very soggy. Not going there again.

Christmas menu good value and quite tasty but the 45 min wait between mains and dessert in a half full restaurant was not acceptable.
After half an hour of waiting and then enquiring about dessert we were kept waiting another 15 mins.
What a pity and so unnecessary

Recommend booking here especially when there’s an event in town.
We had a a few pre dinner drinks and were shown to our table in the dining room. Then we sat and waited. And waited. Young staff walked past several times but no one stopped. Eventually we realised there was no table service and we went and got menus from the bar.
Our meals were very good. We had crispy skin salmon and chilli prawns. Servings are huge so make sure you’re hungry!
Bar staff were lovely and chatty and also gave us some hints on what to do and see in town.

First visit to this restaurant and it was well worth it. It was for our anniversary and we sat in the "posh" part next to the fireplace. Such a welcome and quite romantic. The food was really good, not too expensive and the meat was cooked to perfection. We enjoyed it that much, we came back the next night too and service was just as good and so was the meal, we sat in the bar area, a feeling of enjoyment and happiness throughout the meal. Thanks.

There's obviously been some changes since the reviews I've just read back in 2020 because this place is the best!
We had Mothers day lunch at this amazing place for the second time this weekend. Initially we showed up, no reservation on mothers day, big mistake, to be told they were fully booked. Regardless, two lovely young ladies on staff grabbed two tables and put them together so our group could dine. We were so very grateful.
Seriously great food it's just so hard to choose one thing so we went with a selection of seafood mains and the pork belly as a side and it was all divine!
Lovely friendly staff who are only to happy to help with anything. Gorgeous outdoor area day or evening but it really does have a special ambience at night.
You guys are awesome and our new favourite place to dine. Thank you!
