Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We ate here for 2 meals - a dinner for 6 and lunch on footy day for 4. It’s not cheap but is great quality and large portions. The chicken was superb, as was the parmi. The starter menu was also really good - Brie,...chorizo, chips, onion rings and garlic bread. There is a seniors menu as well. Staff in the front bar were a scream and we had great fun. Good choice of wines and beers. Nice outdoor area as well.More

Recommend booking here especially when there’s an event in town. We had a a few pre dinner drinks and were shown to our table in the dining room. Then we sat and waited. And waited. Young staff walked past several times but no one stopped....Eventually we realised there was no table service and we went and got menus from the bar. Our meals were very good. We had crispy skin salmon and chilli prawns. Servings are huge so make sure you’re hungry! Bar staff were lovely and chatty and also gave us some hints on what to do and see in town.More

We dined at the bistro today,4 adults and 3 children under 8 .The kids menu was the most expensive we have ever come across…$15.50/for a handful of chips and very small piece of fish,no drink box included. The main menu very expensive,$38 for a pasta dish,$30...for fish and chips.I ordered a chicken burger and chips..$26.50…on ordering we were told it was a 45 min wait for food but when over an hour had passed we asked how our order was going, they said ours was next, came out after another 10 min wait.I have never seen a chicken burger made with a fatty piece of thigh with some skin on..couldn’t eat it and chips were cold…the other 3 adult meals were not well received either but I’m just commenting on my meal.We would never go here again and wouldn’t recommend it.More

We booked a Queen Room in the Imperial and loved it!! It was simply but gorgeously furnished with its own bathroom and courtyard. It was a perfect stay after playing golf and exploring York 👍🏻😄

So we attended The Imperial Homestead for dinner (6 people), booked a couple of weeks prior for the dining room (Husband's birthday). While waiting to find out our table two groups of people in front were being served, then a sign was slapped on the...till to say a 45min wait was now in place. Was informed of the table and that you should probably hurry to order as the time was increasing but they had stopped the walk ins. So we did decide quickly and placed the order about 6.10pm, then easily 40mins later our youngest daughter was served her meal, she straight away said mum it's cold (sliders and chips) I said I'll say something and she said no I'll eat it! ( Didn't want a confrontation) 10 mins later entrees arrived, they were fine. About another 15mins staff said our mains were coming, so out came out meals, husband's scotch fillet actually looked like a porterhouse, was asked for it medium (steak was so pink it was still mooing) and was cold. Other days porterhouse was asked to be well done and that was like a medium! Yes we probably should've said something then and there but again we had waited for over an hour and were hungry and didn't want a confrontation. I did go in the afternoon of the next day and spoke to one of the owners, and although apologetic didn't really care as she said she didn't want to upset the Mauritian chef as he could get angry!! And that we should've said something the night before, well upon thinking of that he sounds like he would've gotten upset on the night anyway if sent back to the kitchen, so then what??More

We stopped for a drink and bite to eat during the recent visit to York for the Heritage weekend. It was a beautiful warm day so we sat outside overlooking the stunning town hall. We had the steak sandwich which was enjoyable, not the best...steak sandwich we've had, the meat was a bit tough but it was still tasty. We enjoyed our visit, the building is absolutely stunning and its been beautifully restored.More

We chose to have our meal, sitting at the brown lounge, to be told that wasn’t permitted. Ordered our meal, which we thought was overpriced, but we were on holiday and so threw caution to the wind. After waiting a while for our meal, a...sign was then placed on the bar saying there would be an hour wait for food. I approached the bar, asking if our meal was going to take that long as we had already placed our order. I was met with a rather rude woman. I obtained a refund on our meal, and left, never to return. An incredibly negative experience. The attitude of staff in any business goes a long way to attracting repeat customers, positive reviews and recommendations to friends. The Imperial Homestead deserves none of these.More

A number of mates and I went on a car cruise and dropped into York for lunch today. First time there for most of us. Lunch was superb as was the friendly service and great range of beers on tap. Absolutely recommended.

First time visiting York after Christmas day. We ordered two dishes for lunch: a fish and chips and a beef burger, been waiting for about one hour no sign of any one of our dishes!

There is no atmosphere here, even when it is busy which is rare. $41.50 for tapas and it is not the real deal!!

We loved this place. Great outdoor area in daytime and a bistro and dining room inside. 8 of us ate there and all had great meals. Steaks were superb, and chicken cordon bleu. Waygu burger was a real hit. Good choice of wines. Busy so...best to book. Friendly service at all times. Beautifully restored by present owners so they deserve support.More

We were attracted by the exterior grandeur of this hotel and booked for dinner. Although the service was a little slow, the meals of lamb shanks and chicken satay were very tasty and quite filling. We had no room left for the delicious desserts on...offer. Our only disappointment was the noisy area where we were seated, near the ordering counter. Had we realised that there were other dining areas we would have gone there and enjoyed a quieter meal. We'll probably try that if we return to York.More

First visit to this restaurant and it was well worth it. It was for our anniversary and we sat in the "posh" part next to the fireplace. Such a welcome and quite romantic. The food was really good, not too expensive and the meat was...cooked to perfection. We enjoyed it that much, we came back the next night too and service was just as good and so was the meal, we sat in the bar area, a feeling of enjoyment and happiness throughout the meal. Thanks.More
