Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food was ok, but had higher expectations to service and location. Had booked early but got a poor table. Better located tables were available but they were “reserved in case a company of 3 dropped in”. Was shortly after given to a couple. Forgot...parts of the food and had to ask for that and S&P. All in all a 3More

A really lovely meal. Couldn’t fault any aspect. Our server explained the history of the building and invited us to go and explore, although we didn’t see the supposed ghosts! Beautifully cooked and presented meal. So glad we chose it!

Our dining experience at 1918 was nothing short of amazing. Housed in a charming historic home, the restaurant provided a delightful setting for our culinary journey. Despite arriving approximately 2 hours early for our reservation, the staff accommodated us with exceptional service, setting the tone...for the evening. Every dish we tried was a gastronomic delight, showcasing both creativity and flavor. The attentive staff further enhanced the overall experience. A definite recommendation for anyone visiting Tanunda and/or the Barossa Valley. Do plan ahead, as the popularity of 1918 is evident from every filled table.More

This restaurant is lovely for people with regular dietary needs, those family members all enjoyed their meals, thank you. However, it's not suitable if you are a vegan with dietary requirements as the risotto is preprepared and the cauliflower doesn't have protein so isn't filling...and not a good option. Unfortunately, these are the only two vegan options available for mains. The deserts were all lovely. The vegan option was orange cake and very nice.More

We were staying out of town at a well publicised but average resort and went into town for dinner and we were so glad we did. Great menu great food a terrific cellar and magnificent service and atmosphere. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Lovely venue with plenty of outdoor space and dog friendly. The service was a bit mixed: we were asked to pick a table outside with our dog, but then did not see that waiter again. About 30 minutes later another staff member wandered over with...garlic bread, and we mentioned we had not yet had menus, etc. However, she left the garlic bread and went to get some menus for us. We got our menus and placed our order...a while later the lady came back saying it was not our garlic bread, but by then we'd started eating it as we thought it was complementary (some places do provide 'free' things). Anyway, we got told it was free (although I don't think she was pleased). Another lady returned with our orders and seemed a lot friendlier. Overall, front-of-house seemed a little chaotic ;-) The food itself was very good: all the courses we had were great, and worth waiting for. Overall recommended...More

The setting inside an old homestead is worth the visit, however the minimal staff were overworked and struggled to manage the customers needs. The food was of good quality, however seemed on the pricy side for what you get.

Service was excellent, a pity about the some aspects of the food. My husband and I were having an anniversary dinner at 1918. There was a pretty loveheart of rose petals on our table. It was a good sign. The waitress informed us that there...were no Tomahawk steaks left; my husband’s wishlist dish. But the entrees of chicken liver parfait and cauliflower curry soup were delicious. Later we wanted to choose some wine but the wine list was taken away for a time and then brought back because ”we only have 7 wine lists in the restaurant”.??? We also chose sides of shoestring chips with homemade mayonnaise, and French green beans, which were perfect. However, I chose the mushroom risotto as my main , my husband chose the crispy pork belly. Both were very heavy on the salt. The risotto also seemed to have the fatal error of overcooking and was slushy. The pork belly skin was chewy rather than crispy. It hadn’t been rendered. Perhaps other dishes were better as the restaurant itself was very busy. Overall a mixed bag when it came to food, service and general ambiance.More

We ha read a lot about this restaurant based on the reviews and decided to visit. It took us 50 minutes to even receive the water, probably around the hour for the drinks. The waitress was working as a waitress and bartender. We felt bad...for her but she did a great job. The food was amazing, good and fresh. Great environment but slow mowing. We would not visit again based on the wait time we had to experience. But great food!More

At short notice we decided to have lunch in Tanunda. We selected 2918, I made an on line booking (it was early), which was easy. The venue is a delightful historic building. Staff were friendly and efficient. We sat in the verandah which was perfect....We dined on entré, mains, desert, coffee and wines. All faultless. 👌 A thoroughly enjoyable experience. And the best part..... we did not feel "full", we felt like we had enjoyed a beautiful dining experience.More

This restaurant came highly recommended. I saw online that there was a set menu and it sounded fabulous. Arrived at the restaurant and asked and was told in no uncertain terms that it was not available and was embarrassed into feeling like cheapskate. The food...was very nice but servings very small and all extras were to be paid for!!! Not good enough and ruined by rather patronising staff. Will not return sorry.More

We called in without a booking mid week for a late lunch and we were made very welcome by the gorgeous owner. Our lunch was absolutely beautiful as was the service. Such a delightful restaurant with a wonderful history. Thank you very much.

We were genuinely welcomed into the entrance hall. It was crisp outside and so were seated at the warming open fire. The menu & specials were inviting. We settled on sharing the ‘Slow Braised Lamb Shoulder’ (for 2) together with a bottle of Henschke ‘Peggy’s...Hill’ Riesling. The very generous serving of lamb and crisp rosemary potatoes was stunning. It was the best. Service was very professional & personable. The ambiance was perfect. We had a most enjoyable evening.More

We'd been given a voucher for 1918 from our daughter & son in law, as they'd had a lovely meal there previously! The fire was roaring and the welcome was lovely. Hubby tried to 'blind' red, which he had to guess what it was -...a great way to showcase local smaller wines, rather than the big names! We both enjoyed the eye fillets, cooked to perfection ... and tried the 3 x dessert tasting plate. Oh my..! Yum! Thank you for a lovely night.More
