About
Small seasonal menu of Northern Vietnamese-influenced cuisine. The focus is on local produce, most of which is grown in the family vegetable and herb garden. The business also boasts the most comprehensive wine list in South Australia, with international focus on wines that harmonise with the subtly spiced Asian cuisine. Don't expect to find a large listing of the sweet-fruited highly-charged and alcoholic Barossa Shiraz's, but you will find pages and pages of Champagne, German Riesling, White and Red Burgundy, Beaujolais, as well as the most comprehensive listing of wines from new and exciting local Barossa, Clare and Adelaide Hills producers. A wine pilgrim's paradise established for the local wine making community, many of whom are seen each night enjoying dinner at fermentAsian. Note that the wine list was awarded the top wine list award in Australia in the gourmet Traveller Wine List of the Year awards in July 2016.

We ate here on New Years Eve and we were really impressed with the food. We had the Chef’s Menu (which was mandatory as it was NYE) which was 6 courses, all shared, but they were very generous portions.
I have a garlic and onion intolerance and they were very accommodating to my dietary requirements. The service was also fantastic.
The only thing was that my husband and I were hoping to have a matched wine pairing with our meal but because of my dietary requirements they were unable to do that so we had individual glasses of wine, although they were paired quite well with our meals.
This restaurant is exceptional value for money, and we would highly recommend dining here while you are in the Barossa Valley.

Really good modern Asian food. Nice setting. The only negative is the number of wait staff that attend your table. 5 or 6 different staff, & the consequence is no one is really looking after you. An example was We were served spring rolls, which needed an explanation as to how to eat them but we were half way through when a senior waiter came to ask had we been explained how to eat them, to which the answer was no. Plates were removed before we had finished our course.

delicious lunch with excellent service. limited menu if you have an allergy to crustceans given all their curries have shrimp paste in them but they are very attentive to this detail. lovely setting with an extensive wine list. the betel leaf is fabulous & always good 😘 Decor is refined.

rip off. waiter said that chef's menu is for two. menu reads $75. no "per person". portions were not enough even for one. and when ordering i was mislead into thinking it's not per person. and it's enough for two.
so just order separately, if you wanna go here at all, because taste is very average. at fast food courts food is same quality and sometimes better.
they tried to explain their logic - but ended up saying that the more people are in the company the less portion they'll serve. Mainly if you order fish, regular serve is 200 gr, if you order chefs menu and you get fish, you get 200 gr all for yourself. if two of you , you still get 200 gr as two small pieces. if you're free you still get 200 gr in three small pieces. but you pay per person ordering chefs menu.
that's how i was explained.
that they served us two taking a price for two same portions of chef's menu main dishes that they would have served as for one (just appetizers they multiply by person).
and after trying to understand that stupid and unfair logic , i was said that in 10 years no one asked that and that a waiter didn't have time to explain this "nice" logic longer and will refund me $50 , "if that makes sense". well it didn't make sense to me.
that kind of attitude is a big NO!

We ate dinner at FermentAsia after listening to many recommendations from locals.Sadly our entire experience was very underwhelming. Entree and mains were just ok but desserts were either tasteless or extremely skint on serving size. I ordered almond pistachio tart which I consider half a serve. Our server was a pleasant young lady but the sommelier had a booming voice that overtook the restaurant.

The food was tasty and well-executed. I had the chicken dumplings (delicious, if a tad over-salted), the fish curry (which was excellent) and then the pistachio tart (on the small side for the price).
The service was, however, very poor. I was put into an ante-room at the front of the restaurant which was being serviced by two people, and couldn’t be seen by staff in the rest of the restaurant. It made it very difficult to attract attention. I was sitting for almost 30 mins after my main course waiting for the empty plates to be cleared, despite both staff members coming into the room at various points to deliver food to the two other tables. They didn’t take the initiative to clear, despite me being obviously finished. In the end, I had to go out to the main restaurant and ask another staff member to send someone in to clear and to bring the dessert menu. It was a real let down.

Organise a dinner for my partner and I, booked for 6pm got there 10min early, table in a corner of a room, we waited 30min to get a drink menu and some water.. waitress kept on forgetting us and moving on to other tables.. we got offered drink that weren’t ours, food was okay but basic Asian cuisine - and overpriced. Maybe fresh but small serves, we had went to get pizza after the restaurant and after paying $200 a dinner.
Not going back.

Delicious contemporary Asian cuisine.
Lovely service and excellent wine list. (some stunning wines that aren’t ridiculously marked up) You need to usually book in advance as deservedly popular. We had the $75 per head menu (5 or 6 courses) and it did not disappoint. We also had the pleasure of speaking to the owner who was delightful.

Had our 34th anniversary dinner here on Friday night. After reading rave reviews, we ended up being very disappointed! My husband is a non drinker-and they very few choices of non alcoholic beverages! The food was average (duck was very dry and some of the fusions didn’t work-leaving dishes very bitter) and certainly not worth the $75 per person. The staff were very friendly, efficient and apologetic.

We dined here on a very busy Friday night and service was still excellent & efficient. We chose the feed me option and our favourite dish was the yellow curry kingfish. The betel leaf & pork entree and the dumplings were also very good. The matching wines were also excellent. Can’t wait to come back.

So it has a great wine list, terrific. But it has no wine sommelier and when you are confronted with a huge wine list, this was a let down! The food was modern Vietnamese but the flavours were not right. The fish sauce (nuoc mam) was too limey, the curry chicken dish lacked depth. The sticky rice pudding was very good.

We chose the Chef's table menu with pairing wines. The food was good, but everything else was disappointing.
We were seated in what felt like a food hall at a shopping centre with absolutely no atmosphere. The wait staff pointed out the impressive wine cellar to us upon arrival. It looked terrific; however, the wine pairing was a real disappointment.

It is a couple of years since we visited the Barossa and FermentAsian. We were not disappointed.
Our initial sesating was in a room near the rear of the restaurant where they seemed to be placing most diners. Unfortunately therewas a table of men who had no regard for other guests and created a very high noise level .
We asked to be moved which the restaurant did without any fuss and proceeded to really enjoy our food, wine and service. The fused Asian flavours were fantastic, the portion size was generous and the staff very accommodating.

Visited here with a group. The chefs choice menu is great value for money with dietary requirements catered for. The wine cellar is a sight to behold and if you can get through the 90 page wine list good luck!

We visited for a booked ahead meal last night. Very disappointing.
White tablecloth prices with cafe style Asian food. So stinghy with the wine by glass we had to drink quickly before it evaporated. The food is typical of such Asian style restaurants but would be easily outshone in any of Australia’s capitals. The duck and the chicken were well cooked and hot; can’t say much more!
Service was appalling. Two mains were ordered but delivered 20 mins apart and then the second one only after staff were admonished.
Recommend eat elsewhere.
