I remain convinced that this is one of South Australia’s best restaurant experiences Excellent service, consistent, high quality local seasonal food, world class wine list in an amazing setting. This restaurant celebrates 14 years and just never misses a beat. Toui and her team must...be congratulated. I feel humbled and sustained eating at Fermentasian. Thank youMore

Booked FermentAsian on a whim. So glad we did, fresh delicious and innovative menu. The wine pairings with the chefs choice menu was exceptional. Knowledge and friendly staff. Definitely give this place a try.

This was my fifth visit to Ferment Asian and we loved the food as usual. We ordered a la carte as we had tasted the entire menu. Highlight was the Mayura Station beef, the quality of the meat was excellent. The main was generous serve,...probably enough for 3 people. We (2 of us) had 2 small + 2 mains + vege. Some of the reasons I’m going a bit harsh this time by not giving 5 stars. - the food menu hasn’t really changed much since 2011, while there were delicious but not necessarily rushing back for any of the dishes. - the decor of the new section is soulless. To me, it’s like dining in a conference venue. Pot plants and lighting adjustments would have soften the ambience. There was a very sad looking pot plant that need to be cared for. - while the service was professional and good but lacking of personality and warmth. Regardless, it is still an institution in Barossa, should be in your restaurant bucket list.More

Quite an experience. Certainly not a predictable cheap Asian restaurant , a small menu, however the food is memorable & in a class of it's own. Incredible wine list. Top service. Amazing.

The food was sublime. Service with about 3-4 staff seemed effortless and so efficient. My husband & I sat near 3 tables of about 14 at each table. The service to these tables was like a fine tuned machine!! The owner was out sweeping the...front path when we booked at 4pm! Pork belly and grilled SA squid were beautiful. As was Kaffir Lime Crème Brûlée. Great restaurant.More

In a very modern setting, this Vietnamese restaurant offers delicious food and a VAST wine list (with local faves under $100 through to 1924 French rarities at $$$$). The $85 per person tasting menu appeared to be popular but not necessary if you want to...select your own dishes. The pork belly was fatty but very tasty, betel leaves so good the locals recommend them, and I liked the lime brûlée. I can see why this restaurant is so well regarded.More

It's been 5 years since we last visited so naturally we chose this restaurant for dinner on an overnight stay in Tanunda. This time we ate in the large airy room at the back and again were greeted with a smile. We opted to pay...$25 for BYO as we had a special bottle of wine to share with our friends. We all had a glass of white to start with which paired perfectly with the spring rolls which were sensational. Being coeliac, it was surprising to find that they were gluten free. Heaven! My barra curry was lovely and I was very happy with my choice as were the others with the pork belly and squid. The flavours are zingy and fresh. We won't wait so long to return next time.More

The entrance to this restaurant is via an old style stone house fronting the main street but once you are inside and walk down the hallway past some small private dining rooms you enter a quite large modern dining area which unfortunately, we found, had...no ambience at all. We thought that the menu had sufficient choice to satisfy most people although the prices were reasonably upmarket with the six smaller dishes being priced between $18 and $29, and the seven larger dishes being priced between $36 and $47 (the latter for the Massaman curry). Steamed jasmine rice was $3 per person. We shared dishes of betel leaves with sticky caramelised pork, rosted pumpkin with cherry tomatoes and tahini, Barossa Hampshire pork belly with ginger and orange sauce, the Massaman beef curry with purple potatoes and peanuts and some stir-fried vegetables. All of the dishes were of a reasonable size and quite tasty but none were really memorable leaving us with that feeling that we needed to come back otherwise we would be missing out. Drinks menu was a tome, comprising 85 pages, and difficult to hold and navigate, even though there was an index. The wine list was certainly impressive in its range of grape varieties, country and year of origin. Unfortunately it was also not up to date. We ordered a bottle of 2016 Powell and Son Riverside GMS only to be brought the 2018 vintage. When I commented on this I was advised that they had run out of he 2016 but had the 2018 and, yes sir, it is the same price! Interestingly this was the fourth occasion in two weeks where we had been brought a bottle of wine from a later year and on each occasion it was charged at the same price as the earlier vintage. This cannot be right. Service was friendly and attentive although they were initially slow bringing the menus.More

We have waited many years for the chance to dine here--Covid raised its damn head and we had to cancel 3 previous bookings so were really looking forward to our meal when we finally got through the doors. Unfortunately our expectations were not met as...despite the ambience of the restaurant being ok it was more like a comfortable lounge than an upmarket asian restaurant. We shared a serve of vegetarian spring rolls which were good followed by some grilled prawns which were dry and overcooked. Main courses were grilled chicken and bean salad-- chicken pieces were fine but accompanying beans were so undercooked as to be almost raw--trendy but not to our taste. The asian stir fried vegetables were a little better but pretty hard to mess up such a simple dish. Highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the Barramundi curry--absolutely delicious. My wifes creme brulee was tasty but tiny.. One really annoying thing was despite the wine list running to 93 pages or so wine by the glass was really limited. I didn't want to order a bottle as my wife doesn't drink but the best I could get was a 2019 shiraz--maybe some thought should be given to expanding the selection of wine available by the glass to cater for diners such as myself. The young women who served us were pleasant and efficient so no complaints about this. Plenty of my friends have raved about their meals here and I was so disappointed my experience was not up to theirs.More

BAD TASTE IN THE MOUTH My wife and I have been to Fermentasian 4 times in the last 8 months. First time, perfect in all respects. Second time, a diminished experience. Third time, below average starting when the young waitress took our wine order. I...asked a question about the wine and she responded “ I am not 18 yet and no nothing about wine” Shoe could have said” I’ll just get the Sommelier to look after you” but NO. Why in gods name would you have such a person taking your wine order??? That incident set the tone for that night. Fourth time, tonight. My wife and I both had the Spring Rolls to start. Very good! Followed by confit Duck with rice and mixed vegetables. The Duck was NOTHING like we had the first time. Lacking in flavour and in intensity. Average!! Here comes the punch line. I order a glass of 2017 Shiraz for $16- I expect the wine to be smooth and velvety due to the age, if nothing else. I cannot drink the wine! It is rough and course. The young waitress did not offer for me to taste the wine and yes, I did not request that. When I told her that I could not drink it, she asked if I’d like to order another. Yes. I ordered a glass of 2019 Grenache, which I was offered to taste and accepted, A minute later the waitress returned to advise that “ We cannot take the wine you did not drink off the bill” I said “ you can, but you do not want to” “No we cannot take it off” I left it at that and We paid and left! Clearly NO IDEA about hospitality This place is high on pretence and very low on quality and service. My advice, stay well and truly clear of Fermentasion.More

We had lunch here for a 70th birthday celebration. The food was inspired Asian-fusion style cuisine and the service was cheery and efficient. The appetizers were light and creative. A place worth visiting.

High expectations from previous reviews. Very disappointing visit. Tasteless found. The spring rolls looked attractive but lacked salt. Quail tough. Calamari rings do not belong with macadamia cream and orange segments… we know this now… a massive waste of money. Massively over rated….😓

This is an Asian Fusion restaurant with some really interesting and unusual menu items. The founder is Vietnamese but I think the influences she has brought are from countries all around that part of the world. It is located in a rambling old building on...the high street that has been renovated to modern standards including a semi-open kitchen. First views, as you walk in, are impressive and it continues. It is a large restaurant and was busy with good ambience. The service was impeccable and the waiter who took our order was very informative and helpful. He seemed to be enjoying his work. Although you can order individually as from a normal menu, you are encouraged to take the taster menu which is six courses that you can either choose yourself or leave to the chef. We took this option and I imagine the majority of diners do the same. We love Asian food and this was delicious. There were a couple of “standards” such as their version of spring rolls and dumplings but most of it was very different to anything else I have tasted. The wine list was extensive and, as you’re in the heart of the Barossa, you can’t go wrong even if you choose some of the cheapest on the list. Not really the type of restaurant I expected to find in the wine country but fabulous.More
