Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Awesome seafood laksa - highly recommend this place and the prices are reasonable. I was impressed when the cook advised that he had made the paste himself - very authentic. Although it didn't have any tofu and had baby bok choy (the tofu being an essential ingredient and the bok choy not being an ingredient at all) this did not make any difference to the taste or enjoyment of the meal. The cook mentioned how he cannot eat spicy foods because of stomach issues and how some guy posted an unfavourable revue because of it - that's very unfair to the cook, as he asked us how spicy we wanted our laksa and that had nothing to do with how hot or not that he likes his meals.

The food here is really great and super tasty, but on the night that we visited, the tiny restaurant was in chaos. The phone was ringing off the hook, the chef was barking instructions to the only other staff member in the kitchen and there was a backlog of takeaway and in-house dining orders. We didn't realise that we had to place our food order at the front counter which increased our wait time. We felt that the 2 staff members did a pretty good job - but it just didn't make for a pleasant dining experience - Food: 4 & Service: 2

The food in this tiny restaurant really packs a punch. 4 of us ate here sharing 4 different dishes - green curry, chicken persik, lamb curry and butter chicken, and rice.
The food was delicious - my favourite was the chicken persik, the lamb was also outstanding.
Friendly service.
While we were eating in, there was a busy takeaway service going on. Clearly a popular place for Malaysian food.
There's no liquor licence, which we didn't see as a problem.
Highly recommend this restaurant

We chose Butter Chicken and Laksa for each of our meals. The owner / chef came out to ask how hot my partner wanted the laksa to be which was unexpected and appreciated. Yes the decor is rustic and the service was at times was clunky but friendly, the food was delicious.

A lovely meal and service experience from a casual takeaway/dine in restaurant. This is being run so well by only 2 very pleasant people with great service ethic. Very busy dine in and takeaway when we arrived. We were greeted by a young man who advised there would be a 30 min wait for dine in meals and that was fine with us. Fantastic forethought to remove any different expectations upfront. Chef/owner then came to our table to check our preference for spicyness in our food. Chef delivered entree with a caution to let cool as they were very hot. He then returned to ask if we were ready for our main. Main was delivered and delicious. He then came to check during our meal if everything was satisfactory. The younger man took our payment and apologised for the waiting time. We assured him that the wait time had not been that long and we were prepared to wait longer having seen the popularity of this place. We were very impressed by the food and service.

Greeted by a friendly enthusiastic owner/chef who is passionate about Malaysian food.
For starters we had curry puffs which came piping hot and stuffed with a delightful spiced potato filling and chicken satay. The satay was beautifully marinated, chargrilled and served with a house made peanut sauce full of spice and flavour - light years away from the dried out sad chicken sticks served with barely disguised peanut butter I’ve had in other establishments. For mains there was a duck curry and Sambal beef with spruce and roti. The curry was a duck leg bathed in a rich, dark sauce with a nice complexity. The Sambal was my highlight of the night. Tender strips of beef simmered in a tomato and chilli sauce with the added funk of belachan, so often missing when I have ordered it at other restaurants. The roti was crisp and light and perfect for dipping into the curry. A small bowl of ground fresh chilli was provided for those that like extra heat.
All this for $39 inclusive of 2 soft drinks. No alcohol is served. Unsurpassed value and highly recommended.

What better way to end the day after wine tasting but with some hearty nasi goreng, curry laksa or chicken satay. The satay is the most authentic I’ve tasted that brought me back home, and comes with the customary ketupat (rice cake) and cucumber.
Be warned that it’s so popular that wait times can be long but it’s well worth it. So much so we had to go back for another meal before we left.

One of the worst take aways I can remember.
Spring rolls you could squeeze oil out of..
A chicken sambal with tiny pieces of chicken and not much of it and under cooked onion with half the entire volume taken up with oil.
It should also be noted the establishment is spice averse as the chef doesn't like hot food.

We found this to be a kitchen that had many people getting take-away from them. We sat in the restaurant for our meal. We both had Thai beef strips for Entree and my partner had a green chicken curry and I had satay prawns. We found both to be very tasty.
The decor was a bit of hit and miss, I think this is because they seem to sell a lot of take-away.

Ordering and service seemed a bit haphazard. I had the beef curry. Large is a very large serving, a small would do if sharing or having a mix. The beef was very hot. Nicely spiced, but it was physically very hot, like it had been microwaved. The rice was undercooked, but again very hot. My wife's (chicken) meal was very good. I might give this place a second try, but I wouldn't rush to do it.

Thrilled to find Kampung Kitchen on our recent stay in Tanunda. We ADORE Malaysia and Malaysian food so it was a pure delight to discover this place - and Ya is so friendly and generous.
We ate Ya's delicious food on two occasions and had we been in the Barossa longer, we'd have returned again and again. Here's what we enjoyed from Kampung Kitchen:-
* Seafood Sambal
* Chicken Green Curry
* Chicken Satay
* Beef Satay
* Seafood Coconut
* Asian Salad
* Char Kway Teow

The Malay chicken curry was exceptional. A lovely flavour and lots of chicken, however the Laksa was too rich for us, and really needed more variety of seafood. Prices were good. Certainly worth a visit. Can sit in or take out.

Never got to eat, we’d brought our own alcohol and were provided glasses by the serving staff then the owner came out and seemed to lose it. We had to leave without ordering. Found it strange for someone to run a restaurant in the Barossa Valley and then be anti alcohol. I appreciate the religious differences that may exist but I wasn’t forcing beliefs or customs on anyone. Just trying to enjoy a meal with a glass of wine.

Ya, the chef, would win any cooking competition. His curries are the best I've ever tasted. I've been to his restaurant over 100 times, and it's consistently delectable. My favorites are his duck and lamb curries.
