Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped with friends for a meal in this tiny town with one pub & honestly weren’t expecting a whole lot. We were pleasantly surprised! We sat out the back in the beer garden which was well set up. The menu had an Asian flavour...to some of the meals & we found out later that the chef was from Korea. They did a great job, all our meals were fresh & tasty & our whole group want to go back. I had the Asian Salad with pork belly & it was yum & large so I couldn’t finish it. Our group had the risotto, seafood linguini, fish & seafood laksa - all good! Thank you!More

The server continually asked me if I was sick with COVID because I was wearing a mask, telling me he was "just making sure" because he didn't want to catch it... all while not wearing a mask himself. Even after repeatedly reassuring him I wasn't...sick, he was sarcastic and hoped that I "get better soon" as I was walking out with my food. Completely disgusted with the attitude.More

We pass through Port Wakefield often but had no idea this gem of a place existed. The beer garden is gorgeous, food was brilliant and the staff were so lovely! 10/10 would recommend. I had the wharf basket with yummy fish, squid and scallops and...my husband had an excellent chicken parmi. Well done to the owners!More

If I was rating this just for the food I’d give it 4. The small share plates came out at very different times so it was never going to be a 5. Then the whole venue lost a point by allowing smoking INSIDE an enclosed...area, where there are dining tables! Gee guys, get with the program! We thoroughly enjoyed the Korean ribs, satay chicken skewers & nachos - a big shout out to the talented chef!More

Our family visited the Rising Sun and were very impressed with the building & the atmosphere. The meals were surprisingly quick considering it was quite busy & they were delicious too. I recommend visiting this pub when passing through, I know we will again.

Have visited this establishment many times over he past 4 years and have always had excellent meals. Way beyond your normal Pub fare at a reasonable price. Not just schnitzels and fried offerings. Last night I had a beetroot tart with rocket, parmesan and pear...salad. It was amazing. A true taste sensation for $18!More

Have eaten here quite a few times over the years and I have never been disappointed in the food and service - and the pale ale is always served at the right temperature! Sunday lunch at reasonable prices and never rushed. A good local country...pub!More

I was very disappointed with our experience here, especially after reading such great reviews! We’d made a booking but when we arrived it took 10 minutes for anyone at the bar to acknowledge we were there. When someone finally did they just said “name”, no...hello, no smile, no welcome, nothing. We were told our table was around the corner, we’d booked for 3 and it was a larger table set for 6. The dining room has not atmosphere and the door was wide open so we spent the whole dining experience shooing away flies. We each ordered a serving for 2 rissoles and then 2 steamed vegetable sides that we could put in the middle to share. One rissoles dish came out with vegetables on the plate (but no garnish) and the other 2 came out standard. When we questioned where the other steamed vegetable serve was we were told it had “been forgotten”. We continued to eat meals and awkwardly share the vegetables on 1 of the main plate while we waited for the other. 20 minutes later it still hadn’t arrived and we asked where it was to be told they “thought it was coming”. When the vegetable dish finally arrived we were all finished our mains which were lukewarm to begin with, so then just had a plate of vegetables. Not an amazing experience overallMore

This is a nice pub in Port Wakefield: friendly staff, clean and well maintained facilities, good food, a reasonable choice of beers and wines. We enjoyed our meal and would happily eat there again. We have friends who eat there when they travel between Adelaide...and Port Julia. I think it is the only restaurant in Port Wakefield. One of its external walls is fully covered with a mural of a sailor drinking a Cooper's beer :-) Photogenic.More

Had dinner at the Rising Sun last night (Thursday), quite busy and glad we booked (lots of workers in town with huge road project currently underway expected to take approx 2 years). Friendly bar staff - nice wine choices & appreciate being able to order...bubbles in a piccolo. The dining room is very pleasant with paper covers on the table, each stamped with The Rising Sun - nice touch. We enjoyed our meals which came with salad & chips - whiting was fresh & moist but I found the batter a little oily - I would order it again but would try it crumbed. There is another dining area with large windows looking out on to a play area for children, so looks to be good for families. Looked to be good choices on the menu for “Kids” which come with a drink & an ice cream.More

On our way to Pt Augusta we decided to stop in Pt Wakefield for lunch and googled where to eat, read the reviews and decided on the Rising Sun Hotel. The service was really really good, I had a chicken parmy, another had nachos, another...had the chicken schnitzel with gravy and they were delicious. We definitely recommend stopping here and now we know it exists will definitely stop here again. Great effort by the staff.More

We ordered Nachos and out came a massive bowl of look a like nachos but not with the traditional touch but a new twist. Keep it simple and it may have been ok but it wasn't. Then ordered chicken schitzel. Out is xame but had...a definite taste of seafood which overtook the chicken. Suggest deep fried with the fish oil which resulted in me not eating much of the meal which comprised the schitzel , sauce and a small bowl of chips. No salad.... nothing else.... pretty poor. I think the hotel has gone backwards from our last visit.More
