I was very disappointed with our experience here, especially after reading such great reviews! We’d made a booking but when we arrived it took 10 minutes for anyone at the bar to acknowledge we were there. When someone finally did they just said “name”, no...hello, no smile, no welcome, nothing. We were told our table was around the corner, we’d booked for 3 and it was a larger table set for 6. The dining room has not atmosphere and the door was wide open so we spent the whole dining experience shooing away flies. We each ordered a serving for 2 rissoles and then 2 steamed vegetable sides that we could put in the middle to share. One rissoles dish came out with vegetables on the plate (but no garnish) and the other 2 came out standard. When we questioned where the other steamed vegetable serve was we were told it had “been forgotten”. We continued to eat meals and awkwardly share the vegetables on 1 of the main plate while we waited for the other. 20 minutes later it still hadn’t arrived and we asked where it was to be told they “thought it was coming”. When the vegetable dish finally arrived we were all finished our mains which were lukewarm to begin with, so then just had a plate of vegetables. Not an amazing experience overallMore

This is a nice pub in Port Wakefield: friendly staff, clean and well maintained facilities, good food, a reasonable choice of beers and wines. We enjoyed our meal and would happily eat there again. We have friends who eat there when they travel between Adelaide...and Port Julia. I think it is the only restaurant in Port Wakefield. One of its external walls is fully covered with a mural of a sailor drinking a Cooper's beer :-) Photogenic.More

Had dinner at the Rising Sun last night (Thursday), quite busy and glad we booked (lots of workers in town with huge road project currently underway expected to take approx 2 years). Friendly bar staff - nice wine choices & appreciate being able to order...bubbles in a piccolo. The dining room is very pleasant with paper covers on the table, each stamped with The Rising Sun - nice touch. We enjoyed our meals which came with salad & chips - whiting was fresh & moist but I found the batter a little oily - I would order it again but would try it crumbed. There is another dining area with large windows looking out on to a play area for children, so looks to be good for families. Looked to be good choices on the menu for “Kids” which come with a drink & an ice cream.More

On our way to Pt Augusta we decided to stop in Pt Wakefield for lunch and googled where to eat, read the reviews and decided on the Rising Sun Hotel. The service was really really good, I had a chicken parmy, another had nachos, another...had the chicken schnitzel with gravy and they were delicious. We definitely recommend stopping here and now we know it exists will definitely stop here again. Great effort by the staff.More

We ordered Nachos and out came a massive bowl of look a like nachos but not with the traditional touch but a new twist. Keep it simple and it may have been ok but it wasn't. Then ordered chicken schitzel. Out is xame but had...a definite taste of seafood which overtook the chicken. Suggest deep fried with the fish oil which resulted in me not eating much of the meal which comprised the schitzel , sauce and a small bowl of chips. No salad.... nothing else.... pretty poor. I think the hotel has gone backwards from our last visit.More

My wife and I visited the pub after hours on a Tuesday in March expecting a normal pub experience. We were very surprised. Even the tables had a white paper covering similar to a whitetable cloth. We each had schnitzel. Both were very tasty and...we'll orroared. The bartenders were personable and as we said in the title we were very surprised. The Rising Sun is worth going off the beaten path for. We recommend this place anyone traveling through these parts. We'll be backMore

We went to a family Birthday lunch for 40 people that was had on the outside verhander but under cover. It was a very nice setting and the long tables looked very nice. We got our drinks and ordered our meals from the menu and...they also had a specials board. Some of us had to wait a long time as they only brought out a few meals out at a time and there was at least 40 of us. The meals/rolls and salads were all very nice and they put up some large fans to keep us cool as it was a warm day. Staff were very friendly and thanked us for coming which was a nice touch.More
