Excellent Restaurant with Railway Memorabilia

We really enjoyed our meal at this restaurant. Our waiter Joanus made us feel welcome and provided excellent service. The Chef Rob was excellent, he discussed the menu with us and the food was delicious and cooked to perfection. There is railway memorabilia in the restaurant and a must visit for a railway enthusiast. The adjoining Burra Motor Inn is excellent to stay at. We enjoyed our time in Burra and recommend this restaurant and accommodation.

Thank you for your stay, and for dining in Jumbucks. It was an interesting experience, no doubt, given that there was no power and you got the rare privilege of dine by (only) candlelight whilst we cooked and prepared your meal under torchlight.

Jumbucks restaurant Burra

We recently dined at the re opened Jumbucks restaurant.. The ambiance was beautiful with great old fashioned service .. The meals were great , the steaks on the large size which meant we had to forfeit desert sadly . Jonas our waiter was very friendly and made our visit memorable .. Would highly recommend it.

Delicious dinner, fabulous service, warm and delightful atmosphere. Loved the ornaments, paintings, on display and general feel to the restaurant. Hygiene A plus. Next visit to Burra we will be booking a table!

Good service poor menu

Poor selection of food. Sold put of fish!(we second group there). Wines by the glass- only 2 whites. One cocktail(espresso martini) which my wife ordered & created big fuss of how to do it, was just ok. Service was v friendly and efficient, but the one person run off his feet. Fascinating artefacts round the room

An excellent burger

I was staying at the Burra Motor Inn so ordered a takeaway cheeseburger from Jumbucks restaurant. It was kindly delivered to my room. The burger was excellent as were the accompanying freshly cooked chips and salad.

Intimate and delicious!

The restaurant is intimate and cosy The food was wonderful and the prices are very reasonable. My meal was cooked superbly and everything was fresh and was presented with great appeal. The staff are friendly while still being professional.

Delicious eating experience

Ate in the Jumbucks Restaurant for 2 nights. Dining room service was very friendly and efficient. Compliments to the chef. The food was delicious and plated very attractively.

A Great Meal at Jumbucks

I booked a nights accomodation at the Burra Motor Inn, the motor inn is a typical country motor inn, you don't expect too much but the bed was comfy and the showers hot and high pressure. I was wondering what I was going to do for an evening meal as I don't really like pub grub. So I thought I would have a sneak into the restaurant - Jumbucks and was pleasantly surprised that the place was very clean and bright with lots of collectibles as displays.....very interesting. I ordered my meal which was very nice...in fact the previous week I was in Melbourne at a $450 a night hotel and this meal equaled the meals I had in Melbourne. When I am in Burra again I will know where to eat.

Very disappointed with Jumbucks in Burra

We booked a table for 6.30 pm. When we arrived they had sold out of garlic bread, chicken tenders AND ribeye steak!!!! The meal we had was OK, but second best. We were told we should have ordered the ribeyes when we booked!!!???. we won’t be back

Thank you for your review, Vince & Liz. I called you this morning to discuss the issue, and understand that you were only disappointed that we had sold out of RibEyes, Garlic Bread, and Chicken Tenders. However, you were happy with the 500g MSA Graded Rump Steak and our famous Lamb Backstrap. The RibEyes and Chicken Tenders (prepared daily) are two of our slowest moving items, We understand your disappointment with regards to the RibEye's as these are our premium menu option as you point out in your review. But, given the low sales due to their price, we carry only very minimal stock. Being a dry aged product, these are ordered in on a once weekly basis, arriving on Thursdays. Hence, we always recommend booking well ahead, at least a week ahead, if you have a specific menu item you would like (mention this when booking). We were as disappointed as you to read that you 'won't be back' and would encourage you to discuss any concerns with management directly rather than writing such a harsh review for simply being out of stock of such a well reviewed menu item.

Wonderful dinner

We decided to stay at the motor inn after 5 weeks camping and found this restaurant on site. What a wonderful experience with great wine and the cooking totally delicious. Three courses each we could not resist! The decor is also amazing truly quirky. Hope to eat here again next trip. Congratulations to the chef!

They were well understaffed and didn’t manage to cope with a large (8people) group that must have arrived just before us. This meant that we had to wait over 90minutes for a meal (very tough after a long day driving and with a young child) Very simple meal that was ok.

Thank you for your feedback. We note that the time that transpired between seating your table and payment of the account upon leaving was 1 hour and 12 minutes. Our records show that your meal was served within 40 minutes on a night where we had over 20 guests order within the space of less than 15 minutes with only 5 guests having booked. To assist us ensure sufficient staffing and food is prepared each night, and to minimise wait times, we always encourage patrons to book ahead. Upon arrival, our waitress seats guests and notifies the kitchen of every guest as they arrive. In your particular case, as Chef and Manger, I was aware that you had booked ahead and ensured the waitress took your order before those that walked in without having booked so that I could make a start on your meals. Our meals are prepared fresh to order, including sauces such as the Thai Green Curry that you ordered. With only 5 guests booked in and only myself and a waitress working that night, we did our very best to prepare quality meals in the shortest time possible, meals that were very well received by other patrons. You may recall after expressing dissatisfaction with the wait that I attended your table personally to apologise for the longer than expected wait of 40 minutes, less than half the time you claim in your review. Had you stated that you were after fast food, we would have been more than happy to recommend nearby venues that provide such a service. Our aim is to provide a warm and inviting space whereby our patrons can sit and relax, enjoy local wines and food prepared in house with love and friendly staff waiting at your table. Thank you for taking the time to book ahead.

Oh wow!!

The meals we had were up there with the best ever. The rump steak was huge and cooked perfectly. The lamb back strap was to die for! The atmosphere is quirky and gives you heaps to look at and talk about. We are just disappointed that we couldn't fit dessert in.

A trip back in time

If you are interested in the history of mining and Railways in SA, Jumbucks Restaurant in Burra is a delight. There is an incredible amount of history on display and once you have ordered your meal you can wander around the restaurant and take in all of the displays. The menu offered a wide range of options with Kangaroo being a treat. The host was gracious and his barista made coffee was an unexpected treat. Well worth a visit, even if you are not staying at the Burra Motor Inn.
