Great idea to offer ‘a meal purchased for $20 in exchange for a camp site unpowered overnight. Bonus is a meal generous in size, tasty and affordably priced. If is a Historic venue with welcoming decor and an interesting dining lounge viewing windows of adjacent road. Also clean and friendly Merci

After reading the positive feedback on this site from other diners, my hubby and I decided to dine in during our recent stay in Burra. We weren't disappointed with the staff, venue or food. The menu isn't extensive but quite adequate, offering enough choices for our liking. The young women who greeted us were friendly and offered excellent customer service. We were shown to a private dining parlour with traditional timber furniture and an 'olde worlde' ambience, which we appreciated. Our meals were reasonably priced and very tasty and we would highly recommend this hotel to other travellers.

In Burra last week on a. Monday night, looking for somewhere to eat. Decided to try the Bon Accord as we’d driven past it earlier in the day and was pleased with our decision.
A fairly limited menu, however seeing the fish and chips being served to another patron made for an easy decision. Fresh garfish cooked in thin, crispy batter with a side of chips and crunchy salad. Delicious, My husband had a pork steaK, cooked so it was tender and moist. Needless to say there was a good selection of wine and beers, including those for the nearby Clare Valley.
We ate in the sunroom off the bar area, but there was also two dining rooms and a beer garden, so plenty of space to keep your distance from other guests, if you wanted to.
And we finished the night with a sing song around the pianola - what more could you want than food and entertainment?

Another lovely old pub in the style only Australian country towns seem to do them! A bit out of town but close to our accommodation at the old railway station, we stopped in for a drink and stayed on for dinner. Tim behind the bar chatted amicably and the wines on offer were outstanding – he told us his background was in the wine industry and the selection on offer was definitely a testament to that. A small and basic, reasonably priced menu was on offer. We went with the Beef Parmigiana which was huge but perhaps a little dry. We asked if it was possible to have some dried chilli flakes to sprinkle over (a favourite option for hubby) and a generous bowl was happily provided.

The fellow was rather gruff with his greeting but not everyone is overly friendly so I put that to the back of my mind… When he gruffly asked how many were eating I said to and that we would be sitting outside… He looked very strangely and I said we have two dogs with us… his response was, you are strange people. To which I responded, we are traveling for a year 05, what am I supposed to do to get rid of my dogs? His response, yes. I was disgusted but I still went to look at the menu that he gruffly pointed towards on the wall for me to look at for lunch… And then heard how rude he was to the lovely old couple who just pulled up in a caravan to stay… The man needs to learn a couple of manners or is going to continue to cost lots of revenue. Be nicer, or get out of the hospitality business

Ha, ha ,ha ha, ha. Take a deep breath buddy and calm down. I’ve come across a lot of precious dog owners who get offended if I don’t ask their dog’s name and rub it’s tummy.

Hotel worth a look only. But like the other guy said lacking in atmosphere and from other reviews old mate has reverted to type. Publican is a one way defensive argumentative ambush communicator. Must be bored or knows he’s would not deliver and is defensive. Also uninvited niggles about crap during the meal. Weird! Spent a $100 meals wine for the experience to free camp in the back. A fraction on what I was prepared to spend that night as celebration for getting into SA after long road trip from north. On being ambushed we engaged the contract and fought through and were prepared to move on. But he smelt the breeze and pulled his head in. Damage was done. Closed the purse on that immature experience. Meals were pretty unremarkable despite the cook talking herself up. She did seem pleasant enough and looked the part, ‘I wouldn’t cook it if I didn’t like cooking it’. Paper thin beef schnitzel coleslaw without dressing chips. Odd packet gravy. Miniature pork steak same sad salad. Lucky for him the car park was pretty full so $$ kudos for him. But nothing lasts forever mate in hospitality. So read this, stand back, take a breath and pick up your game if you’re going into accomodation.

This hotel has so much potential. Camped for one night as it had a shower but unfortunately it was not clean. Meal was very average for the price and the beer garden as you can see by the photos needs a bit of work. The area you camp in needs a good clean up and some sites are not level. I wish them all the best for the future.

I stayed in the caravan park adjacent to the hotel. You have several choices.
Free with no electricity or water if you spend $20 in the hotel; water and power for $25 if you are willing to accept a sloppy site, or $25 for just power on a level site.
The sites are generous in size.
The facilities are cabin style and in immaculate immaculate condition. TV reception is excellent.
There is a lot of road noise. My observation was that most heavy vehicle drivers used their compression brakes before the right angle bend.

Went in a group of thirty.. I had an idea that it might be quite awful as we have left a review prior when we were served burnt offerings! This time it was not our choice to dine here but I again say beware. Look, the rooms are old fashioned which has some bush charm, large old tables to sit in big groups. It is the service which is done by one man, he rushes around a bit like John Clease!
He does the bar, takes the money serves the tables and clears away and any other thing. We were all given a planned menu bbq from the outdoor BBQ. It came with scant potatoe salad and coleslaw. Mine had one small burger and a sausage, meat was the end of the hogged.. I could not get a bit of meat off the bone and gristle. I am not sure why the revues are so varied. Just happened to us twice. Go to the Burra Hotel by comparison it is fantastic.

The event and menu was agreed with the organisers. A barbecue with two meats was to be served in the beer garden. With the weather so unpredictable it was agreed the meal would be served inside. The meats were provided by the local butcher who has high quality product. We served three meats, a favoured sausage, lamb cutlet and rissoles. From memory two salads accompanied this. This was a $20 meal similar but smaller than our $24 mixed grill. The food that was presented was of good quality.
A small business does not usually have a lot of staff. I’m not sure what your issue is of being served by one person. On arrival bar service was handled by myself and my daughter while my wife completed preparations in the kitchen. Once bar service was under control my daughter, the chef, moved into the kitchen with my wife who is a qualified cook. The food was then brought out, and plates picked up by myself. I’m unsure why you feel the need to put an John Cleese reference in.
It is clear from your comments you intended the evening to be poor. If that was your intent I’m not surprised you achieved your outcome.

My partner and I, both vegetarians, had been warmly recommended the bon accord while inquiring about the best veggo-friendly tables in Burra. We knew restrictions due to Covid had not made it easy for pub owners and we were told at arrival that we couldn’t stay by the fireplace because it was already busy with patrons, which made us a bit unhappy. The owner did all he could to accomodate us. Once the fireplace was freed it was lovely: amazing cheese plate and wine for a start followed by a perfectly cooked zucchini frittata and Baked veggies from the pub’s own veggie patch. I would eat this every winter night given the opportunity.
The owners were friendly and chatty; lovely people with lots of stories to tell.

Great place and we will be back. Hosts Tim and Sue are lovely friendly people and the schnitzel was very nice. We were served our dinner in the parlour which is a private room with a lovely log fire. We had the motor home and the dog, all welcome. And the best bit - spend $20 in the hotel and your site is free (or $25 per night if you want power). We will be back and thanks again Tim and Sue 😆 very happy customers.

Went for dinner, very few customers still after lock down, but our host and owner, Tim, had us sitting in leather lounges in front of the fire for drinks and then in a "snug" by ourselves (with another fir) for our meal. Meals - lamb cutlets with pomegranate sauce and fish and chips were both excellent. Very interesting decor and a history to match.

Lucky us we were staying a short walk away from the Bon Accord Hotel for a refreshing beer after a long day out exploring Burra. The publican made our visit fun and interesting witih local facts and stories, the beer flowed and so did the laughter. We did not have the opportunity to dine here but our accommodation host highly recommended the Bon Accord.

We had 4 days in Burra recently staying at the historic Burra Railway Station B&B. At the end of the road, the Bon Accord hotel was the nearest place to have a meal. Our initial experience was lunch and we enjoyed it so much, we were impressed enough to return for dinner several days later on a Friday night. This property has a very small bar but throughout the building there were a number of rooms with lit fireplaces. We stumbled upon one such room with an active pianola and were encouraged to use and sing along. Sounds corny? Probably but it was the most unexpected fun I’ve had in a long time. The food was great and we had full three courses both visits.

Ideally located on the Burra by-pass road just 5 minutes out of Burra central area, this is a great low cost stopover for RV's/Camping. With toilet/shower facilities upon check in at the hotel. Our motorcycle club has been doing an annual run here for the past few years. It's always a great night in a very nice hotel with a great wine selection. Tim is a good host and keeps things in control. I was very appreciative of his COVID vigilance even with us as a group and the cleaning regime. The meals are good. The Pianola is always popular when we go. Thanks Tim..see you next time
