We have had a few days in Clare and lucky enough to eat some absolutely amazing food so after many many local recommendations to eat at Terroir (especially for Wednesday's locals night) we did. Upon arriving (and seeing in through the window) I actually looked...around the neighbouring buildings because I thought we were in the wrong place. My first impression was it looked like a casual Cafe, I think it was the lighting and particularly the large bright drinks fridge at the end of a service counter. Anyway we went inside and our greeting was warm. I had the brassicas as the entree and it was obviously meant to be served cold and was delicious. For main I had lamb and lentils, while this was not fridge cold it was room temperature at best, I understand the lamb was probably well rested (as it was perfectly cooked) but the lentils were cold. I couldn't easily mention it to staff so ate it anyway. Dessert was semifreddo which was solid.More
Stunning cottage beautifully appointed. The best bathroom we have had so far especially the shower. Very warm. Suite 1 and 2 superbly located in gorgeous garden. Quality coffee tea and other drinks on hand Very warm.
My husband and I returned to Auburn solely to revisit Terroir Auburn over the weekend. We were not disappointed. We stayed in the beautiful accomodation on site and were very kindly upgraded upon arrival. Dinner was incredible. Truely we cannot fault this experience. From the...moment we were greeted with the door opened for us to the last mouthful of an incredible dessert. I cannot recommend this experience enough. Thank you again Dan for such a great stay and incredible meal.More
Easy booking system, comfortable seating, beautiful food enjoying Locals Night menu. The bread was so yummy I could have made a meal just of that! Delightful first vegetable course, duck confit and lentils for main (tasty as) and fig for dessert. Most enjoyable evening with...some lovely non-alcoholic choices for the driver. Thanks Dan and attentive and friendly servers. Well done 💐💐💐More
We stumbled across this restaurant on our way to the Flinders Ranges and what a find. This would be the best regional dining experience we have had. The bead is a must order with citrus butter. The vegetarian entree was so fresh and flavoursome, the...crab was next and super fresh, then the pie was sensational. But the highlight was dessert. Cumin and coriander in a dessert can be done with great success and the cheese option is presented under a large house made cracker. We could not fault this gem and look forward to coming back. If you are travelling in a caravan consider the auburn community caravan park, you can walk to the restaurant!More
On a previous Clare Valley visit we asked around a few people for their thoughts on ‘Terroir’ and they spoke very highly of it. So on this trip time we went for dinner and also stayed in their on site accommodation (which, bless them, they...‘rent’ for single Saturday night stays - wonderful!!!!!). Now it’s my turn to speak just as highly as those encouraging reports that we received and, knowing now that a full restaurant is fed by just a one man band operation in the kitchen (chef Dan), it only serves to increase the praise. Amazing! Same goes for the value - four courses + amuse bouche…..every mouthful a delight, every cent of the $80 set menu was VERY well spent! A lovely touch at the start and finish was to be welcomed on the doorstep by someone opening the door to greet you, and then to farewell you at the end. Really nice. I’m reluctant to try to pinpoint a favourite dish but for someone who isn’t a gnocchi fan I have to specifically mention how delicate and dreamy the blue swimmer crab gnocchi dish was. The gazpacho accompaniment came close to being too much for the crab, but it did NOT tip over the edge. A highly commended balancing act!! Fantastic. Also, thank you for offering the choice between cheese or a sweet dish for the dessert component, rather than making cheese the optional additional paid extra. As a cheese lover I always feel set menus penalise a person if they don’t have a sweet tooth! Just a small suggestion: it might be nice if in-house guests could be allocated tables in the front/window, to show a bit of extra ‘love’, and if the chairs could be a little more comfy as perhaps more ‘French’ looking. These are really small things though….More
Terroir is a restaurant that continues to shine in the Clare Valley. Had a large group of 15 and it was set menu night, but still the options allowed for different tastes. The consensus of the night was in line with a slogan currently being...used in the media “Good -Different!”More
I am ashamed to say that I have lived in the area for seven years and had yet to dine at this restaurant. We had heard only praise from the locals so went on a Wednesday night with friends. We had taken our own wines...but were told there was no BYO. Not a problem at all. The menu had vegetarian entrees and my meat eating husband was not impressed. So between us we all tasted everything on the menu, even my husband agrees that the entrees were both amazing and delicious. The main of duck was melt in the mouth and cooked to perfection. We could not fault anything, the staff were equally as engaging and professional. This will not be the last time we visit. The only complaint I had was that there was no BYO but the extensive list was not cheap but quality wines and with that prices. We will be back.More
My husb and I dined at Terroir Auburn for the second time last evening. One of the best dining experiences in Australia to date. Everything was perfectly curated and unbelievably delicious. Every single dish that came out was meticulously made with such an incredible eye...for detail. The staff were all wonderful and very intuitive. Such a wonderful place for a special occasion. Highly recommend.More
What a fantastic little restaurant in Auburn! It's an amazing experience where the focus is on local and farm-to-plate dining, where the set menu changes seasonally and is always fresh. We came in late-September and stayed in the on site accommodation, which made dining and...sampling the paired wines very easy! The food was amazing, beginning with a selection of snacks, followed by vegetarian, fish and meat courses, and finishing with a delicious dessert. The paired wines were amazing too. Service was great, with good explanations of the food and various ingredients used. The focus is definitely on freshness and quality, and we certainly couldn't fault anything in our whole experience. I look forward to coming back in the future, and sampling a different seasonal menu!More
While the staff were friendly and professional, the food was disappointing. The first course of carrot was over complicated with too many flavours, none of which made the carrot any tastier. The rest of the courses were unfortunately bland (and lots of fat on my...partner’s lamb). The food was well presented, but I’m here for the taste. Don’t buy into the hype, this place is pretty average.More
Hello Cynthia, It’s a real shame you didn’t afford us the common courtesy to discuss this with you whilst you were here, as it most certainly wasn’t the feedback you gave our front of house professionals this evening, which makes it rather confusing for readers....More
The food here is amazing a four course set menu . Each course was beautifully presented and flavoursome. Wonderful service and attention to detail just perfect . Highly recommend. Regional restaurants are struggling post Covid please support this place you will not be disappointed.
My partner and I dined at Terroir Auburn this evening and were seriously impressed by the excellence of every course. The first course, an inventive vegetarian dish based on a cumin spiced carrot topped with lentils set the scene. This was followed by an equally...impressive fish course of silver whiting. A tender beef cheek and then a light vanilla parfait completed the meal. We really enjoyed every course and will certainly be back next time we are in the Clare Valley.More
Amazing food and service was second to none. The atmosphere is lovely we had the option to sit near the fire place. We had the 4 course wine pairing experience. My partner is gluten free and they accomodated this so well. They even made a...special dessert just for him. All the food was amazing. I don't normally eat fish but I can say that they made it so amazing, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The whole meal throughout I could not fault. The chef takes great care and pride in his food, which these days is somewhat rare. The ingredients are fresh because you can taste it! Makes all the difference, so keep up the amazing food and sericve that you do. The host was lovely, with a great sense of humour which just added to the whole experience. One of the best meals we have ever had and so worth the money!More
