About
The Velvet & Willow Cellar Door and Pantry is a family owned and operated business located in the rolling hills of the picturesque Clare Valley. Our fruit is sourced from its St Clare Vineyard above the village of Leasingham, between the small mid north townships of Auburn and Watervale. The 311-acre property has been a vineyard for the past 80 years. Old vines were removed in the late 1980s and replaced with the existing vines, which grow in predominantly red loam soil over limestone and enjoy a Mediterranean climate. Utilising respected local winemakers in the Clare Valley, Velvet and Willow wines are of the highest premium quality.

Mid-point on our recent trip from Adelaide to the Clare Valley was Velvet and Willow Pantry for morning coffee located in a historical house built in 1855 as part of the Velvet and WIllow cellar door. We thoroughly enjoyed coffee and a freshly baked muffin in the air-conditioning of the cafe before venturing out to explore the paved courtyard with further tables and chairs. Beyond is the most delightful landscaped garden known as the Henry Wylie Heritage Garden 1855 after the original owner of the property. Allow a little time to explore the garden for inspirational gardening ideas.

Before you get on the Riesling trail make sure you grab your caffeine fix! they open at 7am so fabulous, the mixed berry muffin was amazing and was great on the ride.... unfortunately they sold out the second time I went back to grab more !
Great covid19 safety precautions and if we had time would of love to have a meal and sit in the garden as beautiful flowers everywhere....hmm next time.

Velvet and Willow is one of the hidden gems of the Clare Valley. Their morning coffees and breakfast in the cafe were fabulous and a wonderful way to begin your day. The wine tastings in their Cellar Door featured their excellent wines and paired nicely with their cheese platter. The beautiful gardens are a wonderful retreat for the mind, body, and soul and a perfect place to relax with your wine or coffee. Their wines are fantastic, especially the newly released 2023 Watervale Riesling. And if you are looking for overnight accommodations, their adjacent Dennis Cottage was warm, clean and cozy.

They easily accommodated our bike group in the beautiful garden. Quality of coffee and sweets was excellent - the muffin I ordered was the best in years. Friendly staff, toilet facilities 'a bit squashed' and I did not feel COVID-safe.

We had the most delicious toasted sandwich, along with one of the best coffees too. I will want to go baçk here again. We sat inside because it was raining. There is a lovely indoor area but the outdoor seating and garden area look very attractive too.

We stopped just before closing time but staff were happy to serve us. The coffee was amazing and the toasted sandwich tasty. We enjoyed it in the gorgeous garden and in winter sitting inside by the fire would be perfect.

A lovely old building with equally lovely gardens out the back. Along with a delightful setting, the coffee was good and gluten free options were available - wife was also delighted with the regular muffins.

We stayed two nights in Auburn and both days kick-started things with a coffee at Velvet and Willow. Coffee was consistently excellent - certainly the best we had in the Clare Valley. They also do a delicious raspberry muffin if you have a bit of a sweet tooth.
We didn't venture into their extensive garden as the mornings were chilly, and we found the relaxed, toasty ambience created by the wood-burning stove in lounge area was a magnet for us.
They also have a wine-tasting room though we didn't try that.

We highly recommend a visit to this beautiful garden setting for great coffee & the best berry muffins in the Clare Valley! The staff are always delightful & super friendly. They have a choice of breakfast rolls, granola bowls. toasties & also cooked breakfasts on weekends. Wines are available for purchase/ take away if the cellar door is closed.
The established garden is tranquil with shady trees, flowering shrubs & peaceful water features. Family & pet friendly.

The coffee in this cafe housed in converted grocery store built in 1855 is terrific, and afterwards we really enjoyed exploring the heritage gardens behind the property!

We are very happy that you enjoyed your visit. The original cottage was built by Henry Wylie in 1855. The oldest tree in the garden is the Hawthorn Tree. It is likely that the tree was one of a number that were planted in the late 1800's in the Clare Valley. I have seen a number up at Sevenhill. Hope to see you back.

Stopped by for a quick morning coffee after reading other reviews. Located in a lovely mid 1800's stone store. As promised the coffee was great and service was very friendly.
