the Saltram/ Pepperjack cellar door experience was one of our highlights on our visit to the Barossa. Our host Correen was great, she made us feel very welcome, & delivered the wine tasting experience in a friendly but professional way. Correen also shared much appreciated local knowledge of the area, & we did not feel rushed as we enjoyed the tasting experience. The wines were delicious! cost is $ 10 per person , but we were able to try as many wines as we liked. If you dine in the restaurant the purchase of the bottled wine is discounted. the pizzas & especially the salads were amazing!

I have to say we visited on Father’s Day but it wasnt completely full but it took 50 minutes to get a drink when we first arrived and that was only because we went to the counter
Honestly the food was great and the building and grounds were lovely but the service was dreadful. It was like the staff were young and new and they just moved around but never made eye contact with anyone. When I wanted a second drink I gave up and again walked to the counter and ditto when I wanted dessert
It was frustrating waiting 50 mins to even take our first drink order and then trying non stop to get service BUT the food was so good I would definitely come back
Dad ordered the salmon and I had the pizza and we then shared the pavlova
Again great food and Hugh toy recommend

We had the most amazing experience at Saltram. The wine and food, (we had the shared feast), was absolutely divine, the tour of the homestead and wine cellars was amazing, the surrounding are so beautiful, and the staff were incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Thank you for making our visit so special, we will be back!

Absolutely disgusted and will never go there again...We booked in for my wife's birthday lunch and when we arrived, I was totally ignored when standing there waiting to be shown to our table. After some time, I actually had a to call one of the "waitresses"over and ask to be seated.
The menu we were show was little more than a joke, a few very ordinary things and maybe a pizza.
This was NOT the menu we were sent when I made the booking, the one sent was their usual full ala carte menu as we've enjoyed on previous occasions.
After traveling for an hour to get there we were suitable upset and annoyed.

45 minutes after we ordered we still hadn’t received our drinks (or food). I flagged someone down who was clearing tables. When our wine came I asked if we could have some bread (it was almost 2pm by then). Had to ask for our soft drinks again (that was well over an hour since we ordered). Food was nice. Then we asked for the bill. Someone came to show us the itemized bill on an iPad then walked away. 10 minutes later we decided to go to the counter to try to pay. They couldn’t find our bill. The couple next to us seemed to wait longer for their food. The people outside who arrived after us were served their food well before us. Oh and the flies! I counted 20 big dead flies in the corner under our table. I understand that’s nature but need to work in a regular sweep between guests sitting down. Such a pity. It’s a lovely location and the food is nice but I honestly can’t recommend it unless they get more organised. The head chef/manager (?) comped the bread and our wine. I really hope it can improve because it just needs the right person to get the staff organised.

Hi Rebecca,
We really appreciate you providing us with this extensive feedback.
It is invaluable for us to hear from our visitors and so we are grateful for you taking the time to let us know of your experience.
We are disappointed that this was your experience and it certainly does not represent the high level of service we pride ourselves on. You may have noticed on that day we were the venue for the Barossa Wedding Fair and while this does not excuse the service you received, could explain the stretched capacity.
We will be ensuring that all the items you mentioned will be looked at and reinforced with our team. Please reach out to us so that we may discuss this further.
Please send us an email at saltram@saltramestate.com.au.
Kind Regards,
The Saltram Cellar Door Team

Last week, we visited Saltram Wines for a wine tasting experience as part of our hop on and hop off tour. Boy, how I wish I read the negative reviews prior!
Echoing the others. We arrived around 2-3pm last Thursday and the lady behind the counter never bothered to greet or welcome us. She completely ignored us, we are the ones approaching the bar. With no hospitality and proper introduction, she kept on mentioning a bus of 20 people are arriving anytime soon. If we are still keen with the wine tasting, just know that we will be surrounded by 20 other people. She also kept on asking us to pay for the wine tasting. She didn't even ask which wine we are tasting.
Saltram, are you some kind of cheap and mainstream winery? Why are you employing people like her to be your ambassador? With such way of welcoming guests, might as well tell us to go to the winery next door.
This is the first time I am saying this, but she should be fired! She's giving the winery a bad rep.
The place was strictly divided into two - the restaurant and the wine tasting area. You can't do the wine tasting at the restaurant and vice versa, you can't order food while you're in the wine tasting area. Such unnecessary stress!
We decided NOT to do the wine tasting due to such appalling attitude.
The young lady at the restaurant listened to our grievances about our experience and she was the one who literally did the service recovery. From the look and sound of it, this is not an isolated incident.
Saltram, you don't know who is walking into your cellar door. Hospitality is the least you can provide. Please get the team to visit Penfolds, Henschke and Yalumba to learn some hospitality.
We will never buy any of your wines and will suggest the same to all our friends.

Great flexible menu, al a carte up to 20 guests with ‘feed me’ options. We were a party of 9 and we did shared starters then chose our own main course and dessert. Great wines and service to enhance the food experience. Such a beautiful traditional Barossa wine tasting cellar to enjoy as well. Don’t miss it when you visit the Barossa. Shout out to an attentive ‘front of house’ James ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a disappointing experience. A lovely building, surroundings and winery with a very poorly managed restaurant. The staff are all individually friendly but after waiting 45 minutes for the set menu we had to ask what was happening. We were not offered drinks after the initial drinks order was taken, so no opportunity to have second drink or refill. After 1hr30mins we had decided to skip dessert or coffees and left. Few of the staff are professionally trained. The one thing that arrived like lightning was the bill.

We had a fantastic afternoon with our friends at the historic Saltram. The lunch was delicious with fresh local produce and perfectly matched wines. The ambiance is elegant and sophisticated and the hospitality is relaxed and welcoming.
The perfect setting to unwind and enjoy a meal.
Thank you George for your wonderful hospitality.

The new menu was lovely with a lot of choice. The whole table has to come to an agreement as to what you want to eat, as you all share the platters. The free drinks included in the $50 menu needs to include the sparking Shiraz and a sparking white. The staff person Emily was really helpful. If you like your meat medium or well done, tell them or you will get medium rare steak and lamb. The menu can be nearly totally gluten free.
We will definitely go back. Thanks for a great meal.

The menu was dominated by v. high priced per person (starting at AUD$35 pp and quickly goes up from there) shared plates of salad vegetable and a meat(s). If your party members want/like something different to your choices...too bad.
The specials board was poorly optioned with one dish potentially acceptable (if you like pie).
We had good food this time last year (2019), which is why we came back. Our service staff did not explain how the PP choices worked and appeared disinterested to our needs. We had a party >6 and we walked away. A stupid menu!!

Included as part of our Barossa tour. Great winery and I have enjoyed a few bottles from the vineyard over the years. Warm greeting on arrival and we were soon savoring the taste of assorted samples with accompanying commentary from our knowledgeable hostess. Another purchase, a six pack of 1859 Eden Valley Chardonnay and 1859 Barossa Shiraz, posted home for a paltry $10. Enjoyable visit and some pleasant scenery.

We went in a large group as a private party. We were given a tutored tasting in five wines, and then served a really excellent meal (from Salter's Kitchen). We were able to buy extra wine to accompany our meal, or bottles to take away. Both wines and food were excellent. Highly recommended.

Popped into the cellar door as we are big fans of the Matala, Mamre Brook and Pepperjack labels.
We were greeted very warmly by Julie - she’s great fun but also very knowledgeable.
We were offered a complimentary tasting.
You can build your own platter or eat in the cafe/restaurant too.
It’s a very pretty cellar door. Obviously these guys are big players in the wine game so it’s a commercial venture of course; but it’s very professional and the wines are affordable.
But Julie was the highlight! Look after her :)
