About
La Lanterna is the first restaurant in Queensland, Australia, dedicated to the tradition of Ligurian cuisine. As we started trading in 2017 we soon realized how hard it was to find fresh homemade pasta and focaccia, therefore we adjusted out menu and started making everything from scartch. We use many different flours which means we have plenty of Gluten free options. Genovese and Ligurian cuisine are mostly vegetarian. We also provide vegan and dairy free options.

For such a tiny restaurant it produces superb cuisine. We started off with a small La Lanterna with Garlic focacce ($13.00), and were dazzled by the beautifully thin crust on which had been placed a somewhat salty regional Italian cheese, which in its melted state was accompanied by a drizzled extra virgin oil, all combining to deliver a taste senation. More please! Then we were in raptures over our "Polpette al sugo" (5 Italian meatballs with a dreamy sauce of pinenuts, marjoram, parsely, garlic and mushroom, accompanied by small bite-sized pieces of more "mopping-up" focaccia: $29.00), another big culinary "hit". We had no room for desserts, and it's BYO ($9.00 per bottle) and also licensed (mostly Italian vintages). The ambience is great, welcoming and the service efficient, professional. We'll be back!

Table of 7 for dinner. Our toddler was accomodated for (& devoured his kids size meal). We all enjoyed the service, our meals, portion sizes & atmosphere! I can recommend without hesitation. Thank you La Lanterna staff!

Not sure if ‘WOW’ is a big enough description to describe our fantastic dining experience!
From the moment we walked in the door it was like I was entering a family home.
Alex met us with a friendly smile, infectious energy and witty charm, a sign of a great night!
The atmosphere was cosy and you could almost swear you were in Italy.
We decided to go with recommended chef’s special and were not disappointed! Six plates of selected deliciousness arrived at our table, and we were blown away with the size, flavour and freshness of each plate.
Considering the size of the kitchen, I was also impressed by the speed of service and quality of the meals!
We had come to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and left celebrating that we had just found our new ‘best’ Italian restaurant!
I can’t wait to return.

Firstly! I would suggest booking your table (even on a Wednesday Night it was quite busy!) The staff from waiters to chefs were engaging, interacting with each table and very accommodating to Dietary needs; Food was absolutely delicious, i felt like i was at my Italian grandmothers house!! food was fresh and tasted homemade, simply the food was made with love and respect that you just appreciate and enjoy. Portion sizes were bigger then what i thought and staff are accommodating to take away if unable to eat all your meal. Overall amazing experience, will be back very shortly :)

Ordered the gnocchi and it was not hand-made as expected in a restaurant. It was the cheap packaged stuff you buy from any supermarket. Ordered the panna cotta for dessert. The menu description said it came with chocolate ganache. The reality placed before us was two leathery little panna cottas sprinkled with cheap supermarket bottled chocolate sauce. So we got fake cheap gnocchi, and though ganache isn't Italian, it was still what we expected we were paying for. This place is dishonorable. If I was a Ligurian I would be ashamed.

Our doors are always open, really.

This gorgeous little restaurant took us back to 2019 when we were holidaying in northern Italy. The wonderful food and the gracious hosts made it a wonderful Sunday lunch.
Alexandro recommended the five course special and it was that…..SPECIAL.He made changes for suit one of our diners which made everyone’s meal a delight.
The Linguine Vongole (clams) was stunning and the antipasto sublime.
We enjoyed the whole experience.

My partner and I have been going here regularly since it opened. We've never had a bad experience. Alex and Gian-Luc are just beautiful, and Daniel a is a firecracker! Eva is a lovely addition. I love being able to walk in and not look at a menu, just give me whatever Gian feels like cooking on the night! Fantastic value for money. I hate telling people about it because then I have to share!
The food is always beautifully cooked, the service is just fantastic, and Alessandro works bloody hard to make sure everything runs smoothly. 11/10 every time!

We were lucky enough to have dinner out on Friday night with a friend of ours who we have known for 30 Years. We chose to drive out to Redcliffe to dine at
La Lanterna. Our friend just love Italian food. What a night, it could not have been better. Our food was excellent. The staff acknowleged us as soon as we arrived and we could not have had better service. It was relaxed and nothig seemed at all a trouble. We cannot recomend this restaurant enough, if you want traditional and authentic Italian food, served with enthusiasm and love, this is the place to go. By the way they have a excellent Italian wine list as well.
Thank you team, we will be back soon.

Based on reviews read about this restaurant , we could not wait to Dine there and Also to support our local business.
We were a party of 10 celebrating a hens night and we thought we would order the banquet which was the chefs selection.
The two pasta dishes that were served were average but everything else included was very poor the flavours and the quality of food was very disappointing.
The selection of wine was good.

Ciao Christine Long,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.
Both myself and Ava checked your table multiple times during the evening and yet, none of your party complained about anything (on the contrary....compliments were given).
It always amazes me how people can be so "unimpressed" that they feel the urge to create a TripAdvisor account and leave a 1 star review.
As a customer myself, if there is something i dont like during dinner, i try to have a chat with some of the staff, i dont wait the next morning to leave a review, but yeah, i guess that's just me.

Unfortunately it has been a very short visit as we didn't book our table and they only had available a seat for a little longer than one hour.
Beautiful atmosphere, lots of people and we also heard Italians, which is always a good sign.
Food is home made and you can taste the freshness.
The young waitress seems to know a lot despite her young age.
All in all a great experience, it's a shame we're not locals.
I'm surprised to read that someone believes their gnocchi are not home made, we had two serves, one with the Sorrento sauce and one with ragu and they were excellent.

Let's start saying this restaurant is unclaimed, so owners cant reply here. I was one of the tables next to the lady who left the last review.
First thing: given the way hes been trated, the Chef has been a gentleman, and we all told him (we were at the back, 5 tables). Chef approached the table at 7.30 asking them to vacate the table. They acknowledge this, however when the Chef left they ordered dessert and more drinks. At 7.45 Chef comes out once again asking them to leave and that he would change the bill so they wouldnt pay for the last order. One of the guests replied "we dont care about your rules" to which the chef replied "my house, my rules" finally they left at 8pm. Now, second sitting, the one we choce, starts at 5.45, its stated in the restaurant website and in their voicemail. The lady down here lied again when she said they've been told they they didn't need the table. What the chef said (who, at this point came out 3 times just for them) was that, because they arrived at 6.20 instaed of 5.45, they would have to wait for their meals a bit longer. Finally, the other couple sitting with them apologised forntheir friend's behaviour. I think i said it all. Regardless of this, thanks Gianni for the wonderful meal, once again.

Really disappointing evening for what I had hoped to be a special birthday meal. When we last visited La Lanterna we had a nice evening. Fairly premium price but worthy due to incredibly attentive service and good (although relatively small serving sizes) food. Booked thinking it would be a lovely venue for a special occasion.
They have two set "seating times". We eagerly arrived for our later seating and were very hungry. Fifteen minutes after arriving staff were still moving tables. We wouldn't have minded if we'd been able to order some wine, drinks and entrees but that had not been of offer as it seemed the changeover from earlier to later seating was taking a fairly long time.
Having just returned from a lengthy trip in Italy we were keen to experience the same warm hospitality. Unfortunately it wasn't to be the case. Very perfuntory, bare minimum service from a junior staff member. To be fair, he's obviously in training however there wasn't anyone actually checking in with how he was doing. He was polite but customer service skills very limited (as you'd expect at that age). At this price point we definitely expect the "extra mile" and it's possible this can only be provided by more senior, more experienced staff members. This is in no way a reflection of the young kid as he did a good job for his age. My query is more why no senior staff or the owner himself were checking in with customers. At this price, I'd expect it. Unlike our last visit there was no explanation or suggestion of menu items or the wine list. The owner did not make himself available to our table at any time during the evening.
$240 for a family of four, two adults and two kids. This was four mains, a small focaccia, bottle of wine, one softdrink and two desserts. Quite frankly, we all sort of felt we could have just eaten at one of our favourite takout joints. Will not be returning sadly. Disappointing as it was an "occasion" meal and we'd really hoped to have a little of the same experience as we'd had during our months in Italy. We don't mind paying a higher price for meals but we do tend to have an expectation of a more premium dining and service experience once you go past a certain point with pricing.

Was a big disappointment having read the good reviews.
The serving portions for our main dishes at $30.00 or over were more entree size.
Service was great and wine selection helpful but value for money was simply not there.
At $32.00 we expected the dish to be garnished or offered some parmesan but not us.
You dont expect when going to an Italian restaurant to leave hungry like we did.

Lucky for us the Restaurant had a cancellation and we could experience the best dinner ever.
From the minute we walked into the Restaurant we felt like we could have been in Italy so authentic. Our Waiter was a greenie and did a wonderful job for us so professional.
Our meals were exactly as was explained to us very scrumptious and fast service. The waiters were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable.
Extremely knowledgeable of the food, wine and beer from Italy.
We will be back and we will definitely recommend to all of our family and friends that visit the lovely township of Redcliffe.

Location is sort of narrow hole in the wall gang just passed the pub and well worth the search. You should book. It was a very busy Thursday and due to covid you need to try for a slot between 6 and 7.30 pm. It also has a deli open during day.
Fabulous staff. Fun and very helpful but not in your face. As this is an Italian style we never tried before was worth asking about the dishes as it is attempts to be very specific to the north west Italy region around Genoa. As such it was culinary tour de force. We had antipasto and it was loaded. Great selection of salamis cheeses olives etc and a surprising fig jam. We scrapped that little jar dry it was so good. Then a surprise for main. Risotto with pears and Gorgonzola topped with fresh walnuts, and beef ragu linguini. With a bottle of Italian red.
Was a great choice. Highly recommended
