I've known Mary Lou and the restaurant for many many years. When my dad passed away recently -- despite having not seen her in quite some time -- I called Mary Lou to see if she could cater a reception for 100 at my parents'...More

This week was my third or fourth annual trip to the Side Street Restaurant. Tablecloths and an old restore building make this an enjoyable place for lunch. The food makes it outstanding. We always get a sandwich with a cup of soup. After a few...More

The restaurant opened its doors to cater for our women's fellowship. The buffet was a great choice for the set menu. The roast pork was particularly good. The chocolate fudge and the lemon coconut pie were Southern treats that did not disappoint with their rich...More

Not too expensive and a good lunch. The wait to pay your check is a little long. Seems like a lot of local work people come here for lunch, we were tourists. The chicken salad wasn't the best, try the turkey.

Huge selections of sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts - all made on the premises. Feels like a fancy cafe with white linen tablecloths, but you can dress casually. Everything we've had has been delicious! #eatlocal

My wife and I made the journey to this establishment in the Oakwood historic district after spending the morning at the NC History museum. What a splendid little gem. Our server Kera was really great. The interior is eclectic with pressed metal ceiling and paintings...More

I went here during my lunch hour and only had 40 minutes, as I needed ten minutes to walk either way. After I told the hostess about my time limit, she was very helpful - the food arrived quickly and the extremely nice and helpful...More

We have been going to Side Street for at least 30 years. In fact, we held both my and my wife's 50th birthdays there for Sunday lunch. Mary Lou has catered family celebrations (last minute deviled eggs), and we have never been disappointed. No, it...More
