Captain's Cove in Matthews, NC closed it's doors in mid November 2015 with no notice. I have been going there for years when it was Captain Galley's and then I continued to go when it was bought by new owners and renamed Captain's Cove. Sorry to see them go.

Food is good. Consistent each time I've been there. Only issue is the hours of operation. Had to follow or understand.

We used to go to the captains galley frequently before they changed management. Much cleaner than before. Salad was partially frozen, dressing ok. Then the disappointment settled in when we tasted the fried scallops. Instant flavor of metal, this is because the scallops were soaked in phosphatic solution to make them larger. Baked potato was partially cooked, so dinner was... More

Now called the Galley under new ownership. 100 % improvement. Fish is hot and plentiful. They have improved significantly and from what I see, getting better. New owners ask customers whether there is anything they can do or improve. Never saw the owners before, and servers did the best the could to make up for the shortcomings of what was... More

I went to Captains Galley all the time and now that they have new owners and have changed the name to Captains Cove, I am continuing to go several times a month. The fantail shrimp is excellent and I love the veggies they are offering as a side dish. If you aren't in the mood for seafood, they have lots... More

Once more in North Carolina we encountered what seems to be a fairly widespread Greek method of presenting seafood. Whatever fish the Captain's Galley offers as "flounder" may be, it bears no relationship to the beautifully prepared and cooked fresh flounder we experienced at another restaurant. This time we chose what was described as Canadian Flounder, and we were very... More

Horrible experience. They recently reopened under the name Captain's Cove, and it is awful! I had fried scallops for dinner. When my plate arrived, the scallops were swimming in a vat of liquid. I am not sure if it was oil or what but it was nasty! When I cut into the scallops they were RAW! I love sushi but... More
