This reflected the new Winter menu. My wife enjoyed the steak tartare, tho' she felt it was very rich. She also had risotto and loved it. My sirloin was cooked perfectly but a bit chewy. Wines were a delightful choice (Butter Chardonnay and an Argentine Malbec). Dessert was a shared Banana Creme Brûlée and we all thought the best ever.

Beautiful location and decent service. The food...not so much. Our beef tartare was very tasty, but the fried egg on top was runny. The bread was served without butter or oil. My first drink tasted like straight liquor and I had to send it back. My replacement drink was better. I broke my rule of not asking for salt in... More

Highland Avenue was incredible. My wife and I had reservations for a Friday evening at 7:30 and we were sat immediately. The ambiance is terrific, we were greeted quickly by Bridget (sp?)and throughout the meal our service was impeccable. Bridget was attentive and polite andtook very good care of us. We started with the Pork Belly appetizer and the Butternut... More

My wife and I love this place as it has some of the best food available in the Hickory area. Every dish we have tried has been delicious and the creative salads are simply amazing. Never thought I could recommend a restaurant on just salads, but this place could make it happen although the pork belly appetizer is incredible too.... More

I reserved a table for my anniversary but told no one at the restaurant that it was an anniversary meal. I had flowers delivered there and when I called the staff to verify my reservation that I made online they informed me that my arrangement had been delivered and it had been placed in their cooler. When my wife and... More

Four mature ladies out for dinner while traveling. Was a good choice for dinner. We tried Papardelle, Ravioli, and Trout. All were very tasty. Just a little surprised that dinner without alcohol or dessert could cost $40

Don't leave without trying the "meat and cheese" board....more like Charcuterie & fromage. The ambience is upscale rustic, and attentive wait staff; did i forget to mention there is a huge open kitchen. --- Go and Enjoy.

Really like the changes in this restaurant since i have been there last . New improved menu and increased emphasis on service. While still relying on locally grown food, not quite as "organic" as in the past. Nice wine list. Still a noisy but nice venue. Active bar scene. Highly recommend . One of absolute best restaurants in Hickory!

It's a good scene and hickory is just a crappy town so it just seems out of place lol. Great lil bars and love the restaurant upstairs plus the private venue is really nice with plenty room. About time hickory gets a place like this. Only thing bad about it is there allot of broke college people just there to... More

Description
Highland Avenue changed the culinary landscape of Hickory, North Carolina when the farm-to-table restaurant opened in 2013 and has garnered regional and national praise for locally sourced foods. On any given day, farmers and purveyors are walking through the back door, arms loaded down with produce, cheese and meats from their North Carolina farms. Highland Avenue is quickly becoming a destination for people who love good food. Located on the second floor of the beautifully renovated former Holler Hosiery Mill in the up and coming Southeast District of Hickory, Highland Avenue pays homage to the city's rich manufacturing history while focusing on New American cuisine. Appalachian trout, pork belly, shrimp and grits, scratch made breads and pasta, and house cured meat are a few of the popular items you'll find on the menu. The restaurant offers stunning, seasonal fare and provides guests with a taste of true Southern hospitality.
