My wife and I recently stayed at Herons for our third overnight staycation. From the moment we exited the car everything was taken care of for us. Our room was perfect for our getaway as were the drinks down at the bar. Room service the following morning was the perfect way to wrap up our time at Herons. As we... More

Don't hesitate to come here. Lunch/Dinner here is always excellent. We even came here for a holiday Brunch and it was the best such experience we have had. HIGHLY recommended.

The service and presentation is great....if you want a great romantic dinner and the ambiance and service is most important to you, I would highly recommend Herons. My wife and I, however have been there and done that....if/when we go out, we want to have a culinary experience that challenges both our senses of taste and smell in addition to... More

Once in a lifetime experience for us folks that can't afford restaurants at this price level on a normal basis. It was crazy good.

I had my birthday dinner here, what a treat. Nothing is simply served here, it all has a twist; my Oysters arrived with smoke (liquid nitrogen). Likewise with food served from flat rocks, or made to appear like a garden, every course item was a surprise (what is it? Eat it he says). The staff are excellent, they put on... More

Great brunch options. The fresh juices are worth the price tag. Dinner was too steep for my price range so brunch was a great way to still enjoy Herons. Service was outstanding.

My husband and I had a fabulous dinner here. We really liked our server, Scott. We did a wine pairing and 4 course dinner. There were lots of surprises and exquisite presentations. If you want a truly fine dining experience this is the place to go! My only advice would be to ask your server for descriptions of each item.... More

We just sat at the bar and ordered from that menu, but the food was outstanding. We had the beef strip loin with mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts. Everything on the plate was superb - well, the steak was good, but the steak SAUCE was actually fabulous and made the steak. Loved the tasty, thick pieces of bacon in the... More

Herons delivers a dining experience that is both refined and relaxed. The expertly trained staff warms the room, providing seamless service that helps guests enjoy the pleasures of an elegant meal. The main dining room offers a full view of the kitchen, while floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of natural light and overlook the terrace, lawn and wooded lake beyond. In addition to the 98-seat main dining room, a semi-private dining room seats up to eight, while the private dining room accommodates 12 and showcases pottery by North Carolina artist Ben Owen. Outdoor seating invites al fresco dining in the spring, summer and fall. The neutral palette of the décor in Herons provides a sophisticated, yet understated backdrop to the bright and inspired flavor combinations artfully presented. The dinner menu changes seasonally and draws heavily on produce harvested from The Umstead’s own sustainable farm.
