Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived for lunch and decided to sit outside with a view of the grape vines. we shared the starters of olives which were exemplary, the sour dough bread, and a non-sharing plate for one of the Kangaroo, which was Rated as "the best roo...he'd ever had. We had mains of 2 of the Grouper, 1 of the pork and 2 of the beef. Well presented and was cooked and tasted perfect. a few wines to complement the meal was just great. The staff were friendly and informative. It was a delight to dine there and will recommend and return. Well done, Barnyard.More

Shameful! We took our grandchildren to Barnyard, anticipating something for them to engage with, as a website led us to believe. On arrival we ordered coffees and a few bites. We went outside where there were some oversized animal sculptures. The kids (aged 8, 6...and 2) predictably, went to sit on one of the sculptures for a photo opportunity. No sooner had they gone to the sculpture, than a man came towards them and told them they were not allowed to climb on the sculptures. His manner was rude and accusative. The kids (or their parents and grandparents) had no idea the sculptures were ‘sacred’. No signage, nothing to indicate children were not to climb on the animal sculptures. So we departed with our very average coffees and feeling like we weren’t welcome in this place with our kids. All in all, POOR SHOW Barnyard 1978. We and many others will never return, let alone recommend you. Shane on You!More

No fuss here, we reserved on a table on the day itself. We ordered a smoked kangaroo, braised beef, salad and capsicum with sourdough. The kangaroo came in 3 small round pieces but the taste was good. The taste was quite strong but the sauce...and nuts neutralises it. Same thing with the braised beef. It was a large chunk but cooked to perfection on the inside. Sauce and pear paired very well with the beef. In addition, i had a cab sauv to go with him. Not that the wine was fantastic, it just paired well. Service was above average. The staff were friendly and even engaged in conversation during the lull period. She also checked in if we liked her recommendations.More

They could call it ‘Chic’ but don’t, they call it ‘Barnyard1978’: we did not care because it is still chic. They say it is ‘contemporary, casual dining’; we say it is chic whatever it is they are doing whether serving breakfast lunch or an elegant...dinner. ‘Barnyard1978’, a solitary restaurant set in a field of their vines. You don’t find a cellar door - it is within their restaurant - their wines, along with curated guest wines, are a complement to their food. Just an impression but it has, in my mind, an attitude that infers wine is important, of course; but it is not paramount. That the meal is first chosen, with wine then selected to best suit - to achieve a marriage that brings out the best of both; where the restaurant is intended as a theatre for a culinary performance involving produce-with-provenance: for both food and drink without pretence. In that manner: predominate in a corner of the vineyard, solitary, stands bespoke Barnyard1977; making the restaurant the ‘all’ of it. It has an architectural flair that gives you designer-delight from views inside and out. Where the best of chefs create for you the best that can be crafted from the best of predominantly local-provenance. Where the culinary experience is designed to be first and foremost the meal, where they work hard to make it the best presentation that they can of occasion, place, and multi-sensory taste, in an ambience as tasteful as they can create while making it seem effortless. Barnyard1978 is to me a statement of that ethos. As if to further make the point, their unique, equally chic chalets are set a short walk away: set naturally in the vineyard as close to nature as cosmopolitan living can be. For whatever reason, and all of these, I hope that you also discover Barnyard1978, so you decide for yourselves. What do I know? Nothing, except that I like Barnyard1978 - a lot. Or, at the least, I think you should look at their designer restaurant, and their contemporary Hives’, and taste their honey. And, of course, enjoy their wine.More

Great fresh food with lots of flavour and attentive but unobtrusive staff make this a amazing dining experience. It’s quite a humble, unpretentious place but definitely worth a visit.

We have just got back to our hotel after eating at Barnyard1978. We had a Barnyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Octopus to share as the starter, Spinach Spaghetti and braised lamb. All the dishes were perfectly seasoned and very very tasty. I cannot remember the last time...my husband finished his plate. The wine was also delicious. The service was lovely and the setting was relaxing. Top marks to all at this establishment. Well done. We will return.More

We were a table of 8 who visited the restaurant on Sunday 10 June to celebrate our parents joint 60th birthdays. Upon walking in to the restaurant we were rudely snapped at by the blonde lady at the front counter asking if we were there...for lunch or coffee. When we responded lunch, she informed us (very rudely) that lunch didn’t start till 11am, we said we were more than happy to wait and get coffee while doing so. As it was pouring with rain that day, we then asked if in the meantime we could use the bathroom to change our 4 month old child, she was rude to us again and said ‘we don’t provide facilities like that.’ We ended up having to change our baby in the pouring rain in the back of the car in the car park while the blonde lady watched from the front counter. We visited many restaurants on our extra long weekend down south and this woman was the rudest we encountered on our entire holiday. We ended up having a lovely long lunch at Wise Wines who were very happy to accommodate us. Don’t waste your time and money there are so many other restaurants with staff who will treat you with respect - go elsewhere!More

The setting and food were both incredible. Chickens walking through the grape vines just, a playground for kids and beautiful outdoor seating. But the food was the highlight. Everything was impeccable. We ordered one of each of the starters and it was beautiful bread, amazing...fresh olives and the miso cauliflower blew us away. Each of the mains were loved by all too. Tried two desserts and they were amazing too. Not thing bad to say about barnyard. Loved and highly recommend.More
