About 200 metres from the visitor centre inland , this is a gem, cover surrounding a courtyard, order fish at one line, drinks at the other, take your drinks to the table and within 15 minutes your perfectly cooked fish arrives. The snapper in lobster bisque (catch of the day) was excellent but so we're all the others. Wine by the glass A$7 and up, beer brewed on site very good too. Classic fish and chips A$29 good also

We booked several days in advance due to Kalbarri being busy and limited numbers (covid). Pale ale and IPA were great, very drinkable. They had funk cider on tap also which made my other half very pleased. Would come back for the beers for sure! The venue has a great rustic vibe and they light a fire in the middle of the outdoor area which adds a nice touch. Other half ordered chilli mussels which he thought were good, though slightly small serve for price. I had vegetarian linguini veganised (no Parmesan) and it was ok. They’re a seafood restaurant so I didn’t expect there to be much for me other than chips, so I was happy they could be accommodating especially at such a busy time. Service was good, staff were friendly despite being under the pump. Also noted it is dog friendly - yay! Nowhere else like it in the region so would recommend a visit but do make a booking!

Interesting setting with tables mainly outside and a few undercover. It was a very windy night and asked the lady if it rained was there a plan b, she said they would move us undercover. The system is you decide what you want to eat then go to the counter and order, but they deliver to your table. We both ordered the Seafood Linguine, and for drinks a mineral water and I tried the Kalbarri lager - I have to say the lager was so nice! The linguine arrived promptly and looked good. It was excellent! It had a tomato creamy sauce but not too creamy . The seafood was extremely generous and great value for money. The seafood was fresh and the pasta cooked al dente. We were going to go back again on Monday night but it’s not open. You must make booking as is the case everywhere in Kalbarri! Great meal and interesting setting, don’t forget to try the Kalbarri lager!

There was one bit of fish that was ok in the fisherman’s basket, but we had a terrible night. We were placed next to the kids area, whilst the parents of the screaming kids had a table at the other end of the restaurant, so couldn’t hear them and didn’t even try to control them. Worst meal of our WA trip so far. Garlic prawns were mush, tiger prawns burnt and we had to wait over an hour for the fisherman’s basket, couldn’t wait to get out of the place.

Hi David S, I'm sorry to hear about your terrible experience and I'm devastated to hear. If you come back through Kalbarri please give me a call on 0403287862, and I will personally ensure I reserve you a table well away from any children and you can have replacement meals for the ones you had. Noticing a theme that underpins more than a few comments about Finlay’s. Like many I visited Finlay’s 20 plus years ago and loved it. Went back to Kalbarri in 2020 and was really looking forward to going there again. When I did, I loved the way it is setup, but it all ended after that. Their food is expensive, you can live with that but If you are going to charge high prices serve quality cuisine. The food tasted something like I would expect to buy in a cheap west Melbourne pub. Nothing wrong with west Melbourne pubs for what they charge their food is good stuff. With Covid 19 a lot of people are going to Kalbarri these days. That no doubt is keeping Finlay’s busy. My advice to the owners of Finlays! Either improve the quality of your food or drop your prices. If you do not you are going to get hammered when Bali and all these other options come back online.

We did really enjoy our experience at Finlays, in fact we went there twice during our holiday. It has a really lovely atmosphere, loved the open fire pit and that we could take our small dog. The service was wonderful and friendly. Drinks were great. Food let it down a little though. The food was generally good, however some dishes were a very small serving size. We enjoyed the octopus, white bait and fish burger. We found the serving size for the seafood basket woefully small, very disappointing. The coconut prawn entree was four prawns for $16, a little on the small side. So yes we would return again, we would just be a little bit more careful in what we order!

We visited tonight for the first time in many years. The atmosphere is good but not what it was and its lost its character. They used to bake damper and you could watch fish being cooked on the Bbq with rice and plenty of self serve salad you would leave full. Portions are now small and over priced. You get more from the local fish and chip shops here. Chips were also burnt. Not sure why you changed the way things were done and wont be back. People warned us it had changed but we gave benefit of the doubt and left disappointed and hungry. Dont buy the seafood basked they give you two fish nuggets instead of pieces of fish and the calamari is from the frozen food section at the IGA. Staff are friendly though

Had heard great reports but were very disappointed on the night. Beautiful fresh oysters ordered as kilpatrick were smothered in BBQ sauce. Sorry but that is not oysters kilpatrick. The coconut and panko prawns were served in a very charred state. Both the chefs and waiters were aware of the poor dish yet still presented it to the paying customer. Even when the plate was collected with most of the dish still present nothing was said. We walked back to our accommodation via the Hotel. Had a few beers. Sang a few karaoke songs and ended the night happy. But will not return to Finlay’s. Not recommend them

Ordered a seafood basket for $32 which was poor with 2 tiny fish finger sized pieces of bream and a small servings of supermarket squid and a couple of prawns and a tiny splashing of salad! Twenty years ago I loved this place when it served big servings of snapper, red Emperor and damper bread and I would recommend this restaurant to people.Kalbarri is a fishing town so serve some quality seafood.I heard this place has gone downhill and I will never go here again.Been told by locals that cats crawl around on the tables during the daylight hours! My family will never go back again!

Eating at Finlay’s was a disappointment to the end of our Kalbarri experience. The quality and portion sizes was a let down especially when you are paying reasonable prices, even for Kalbarri. The menu list is adequate for all tastebuds. The service was good. The venue definitely has character/ potential to be a no.1 eatery in Kalbarri. Best to try the local Fish and Chip(s) store if you are trying to fulfil your fish n’ chip fix.

I was a bit disappointed with this trip to Finlay's. They were a bit disorganised, no-one to seat us, the new online ordering system was causing confusion to many and the food was very slow. Perhaps they are struggling under the new rules, but it was a quiet night so all should have been good.

Hi gotravelgirl, yes we have been struggling reopening after COVID with limited staff. The new online ordering system was introduced to assist with Government push for contactless ordering and it was all new for us as well. I'm pleased to say we have improved greatly with it and have a lot of patrons now loving it, staff better trained with it, and improved systems in place to dal with new flow of orders. But we do still offer old school service at the bar. Thank you for coming in and supporting we really appreciate it and thank you for your understanding during these times Melissa Finlay

What a great atmosphere at Finlay’s! As soon as we arrived we were blown away by the rustic casual style and we instantly felt at home. The staff were so warm and friendly, especially the man who seated us. The prices moderate for Western Australia and the food options are extensive. We had the coconut and panko crusted prawns and fried squid tentacles for entree, then the seafood linguini, smoked salmon pasta and chilli mussels for mains. All food was good and tasty. I wish we had found Finlay’s earlier as I would have loved to go for lunch to try the smoked kangaroo. I couldn’t believe the so few reviews out for this place and would encourage any visitors to kalbarri to seek it out!

Went to Finlay’s tonight. When we arrived we were told that there would be a 40 minute wait for food. When I went up to make our order, I explained that I had a disabled son and asked if there was any chance that we could get his meal (kid’s fish and chips) a bit quicker. We were told that they would try to push his meal through. A minute later, as I sat down, his fish and chips was placed in front of him! Finlay’s won us over with their kind consideration and we will always come back in future. Food was great too!

So glad I didn’t go by the bad reviews I have read on here and stuck with my previous experiences. The only difference this time it was by far an even better experience. The bar manager was full of knowledge, superior customer service and took the time to “just chat” ensuring that the relaxed atmosphere was still here. Food .... Fresh caught tuna three ways OMG heaven on a plate, cider yum and the share platter all fresh hot and I would travel around the world a million times time to return again and again. Try it and you will rate it as a relaxed and fresh vibe that you want to enjoy again and again. Thanks Finlay’s!

Recommended by friends we booked before leaving home as can be booked out often, usually a good sign. Ok service to table with good explanation on how the place runs. Ordered 2 starter and 2 main meals and 2 drinks. Both lots vey small and expensive with pretty average quality. Meals also came out so fast and close we had finished within 1 drink, 20mins. We weren't made to feel welcome to sit and enjoy live music after our meals so left within 40mins of arriving.
