The old codger and I have been coming to the Lake House every year since we first met - which is 6 years ago now. Sometimes we go there on our wedding anniversary or sometimes on the anniversary of our first time there. Yes - we are romantics at heart. The Lake House continues to delight. The setting is gorgeous - on sunny days it's perfect for sitting outside looking over the little lake and watching the blue wrens and the ducks. In winter there is often a wood fire burning to create a warm atmosphere. This year we had the meat tasting patter with extra vegetarian options. They also have gluten free bread available now. As before, the meal was wonderful, perfectly complemented by their rose wine. We were too full for dessert this time, but the coffee was good and satisfying. It's worth booking because it can get quite busy over weekends, especially in the holiday season.

We enjoyed one of our many visits to this site for lunch. It is so appealing on a number of levels. firstly it is set deep among the tall trees behind the township of Denmark. Secondly, it is on a large lake with plenty of birds (including the southwest's Blue Wrens). The gardens surrounding the estate are beautifully maintained and look a treat at this time of year. Then the actual buildings are "of the vintage" for authenticity's sake. Finally, the place prides itself on the friendliness of staff. We were totally happy on all points listed above.
We travelled from Albany for the day in order to enjoy their platters (which we have had previously). We made the mistake of ordering their Gourmet Platter for two. It was huuuuge!! There was no way we could have eaten our way through this feast, but we gave it our best shot. It had everything you could imagine from the local larder (except the prawns which must have swum down to the nearby creek). Noticeable among the delectables were several different chutneys and pickles, ham, smoked chicken, koftas, two different cheeses, some pickled veg, and assortments of interesting breads and biscuits. Take your heftiest two appetites with you if you attempt any of their share platters. Although this one was a bit more expensive than the other two choices, there was enough of a difference to justify the difference. If you are not up to platters, then they do have "normal" fare as well. Their wine selections are from their own range and well priced. If you are adventuresome and not too "overcome" by partaking of a wine with lunch, then they don't mind you buying by the bottle and taking away the balance left over. Altogether a fun and enjoyable experience. Well worth the trip if staying in Albany (50kms away) or in any of the local accommodation or caravan parks (which are plentiful in the area).

Booked lunch when they reopened after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted because we wanted to support local businesses.
I thought the platter was great but unfortunately some of offerings weren't to my wife's taste so we had some wastage on hers.
I understood that of course some establishments are not able to offer their full menus just yet but some are doing better at it than others.
The setting outside overlooking the lake is great, we were blessed with great weather the day we ate.
The scones were terrific and my wife enjoyed her orange & poppy seed cake.
The merlot was a nice accompaniment to the platter also.

The Lake House is in a beautiful setting, the gardens and landscape are gorgeous and it’s a pleasure to be in this environment. We had lunch here. The gentlemen serving at the wine tasting section was very friendly and knowledgeable. The rest of the staff during out visit were pretty much missing in action and the service was minimal, at best. The food was average, the shared platters seemed to be designed to showcase the locally prepared pickles and relishes and the quantity of these on the platters seemed rather over the top, tending to overwhelming the cold cuts and cheeses.

Thank you for visiting us and for your review. We aim for the best possible experience so will use your comments to work on our customer service. The pickles and relishes on the platters are our own Vinofood range which we make on the premises from locally grown produce and yes the platters have been designed to showcase our Vinofood range and the wonderful produce we have in the region.

We waited to be seated for quite some time . The staff were lovely when they were able to attend us
Once we were seated there was another extended pause until we were asked if we would like to order
We ordered drinks and said we would decide very soon which food we wanted .
Drinks arrived quickly but no one came back to take a food order for a long time .
Once the platter ( which was lovely ) was presented to us no one ever came back to ask if we wanted further drinks or food .
When trying to pay myself and several other people were left standing around discussing whether we needed to actively hunt down a staff member to give money to .
I do not believe any of the above is the fault of the staff it appears there was minimal staffing numbers . Whilst we weren’t in a hurry anywhere i imagine other people wouldn’t enjoy a tea , one wine and a platter taking almost an hour and half .
May just pay to have an additional staff member during weekday lunch hours ?
Staff were lovely , food lovely and views lovely

Thank you Kim for visiting. Sounds like your experience was mostly a good one. Hospitality staffing is a huge issue everywhere at the moment. We are operating on 2-3 less staff than normal and if we could find the staff to employ would gladly do so. Doing our best on limited resources.

We had high expectations when we arrived for lunch and found the location and Restaurant to be warm and inviting. We ordered the Madison Vineyard Platter $75 for two, and because of their reputation we ordered their ‘ He said She said’ Shiraz Cabernet $25. Well what a disappointment, the bread was stale and inedible and the well marbled ham was dry which we left on the plate. When the wine arrived we were given small chunky glasses to drink from noting other diners had large normal red wine glasses ! No table service while we were there so on departure we bought to their attention the quality of the platter and asked about the glasses. We were told that we ordered the “entry” level of wine and if we had ordered the “premium” level of wine we would be given red wine glasses !!! We were shocked, how disgusting, I feel sorry for you people but snobbery has long gone in this Country and has no place in the public domain of wine tasting. Never again !

We come here on our annual trip to Denmark every year and it’s been amazing and our fave spot, the highlight of our eating out. That was until this year!!! The service was appalling and the food not up to their usual standard. We waited 50 minutes for our bottle of wine to be brought out and 1 hr 15 for a basic platter which appeared to be full of pre manufactured dips and bread that was not so fresh. They had run out of pies (the only option other than platters) by 1pm which is the height of lunch time. I am so disappointed as this place is so beautiful and service / food used to be wonderful. Apart from the long wait this time, the numerous waitresses walked past our used plates and didn’t offer to clear them. We had to ask the waitress Who brought our dessert if she could clear some plates to enable her to put dessert down. She begrudgingly moved 2 plates and the rest were left there gathering flies while we ate dessert. So sad the service and food had deteriorated so much as this is an amazing spot. Get your act together Lake house and don’t rest on your laurels

A wonderful location for lunch on a sunny Saturday. There are three different platters to share with an amazing range of tasty local produce, plus their own vinofood range. Local wines complement the food beautifully. Staff were very professional, and we enjoyed watching the local ducks who wandered through looking for titbits!

We have been twice to the Lake House in one week. The first time for a platter lunch and the second time for coffee and cake. We opted for the seafood platter on our first visit and it was exceptional. A lovely way to enjoy an afternoon in a great setting. Staff were busy and we did have to ask if someone could take our order but once that was out of the way everything was great (we were party of 4). Our second visit was only “ok”; we asked for coffees extra hot and they arrived as we like them (there were 6 of us on this occasion). However cake choices were boring and nothing individual at all except scones. Otherwise it was the usual mud cake etc. Given there are a number of great bakeries around we felt some individual cakes/slices could have been offered, maybe promoting Denmark suppliers, especially on a morning when not everyone feels like a big slice of cake accompanied with ice cream/cream etc, but perhaps more a muffin or muesli/nut slice? Just a thought. We’d visit again but not for morning tea.

Came in fairly late and I understand there was about 30 minutes until closing time. Then just simply tell us what we are expecting or just politely tell us, you are only 30 mins away until closing and we are only allow to order entree or main. We are more than happy to accept it but don't take us if you can't handle it. We ordered an entree then chef told us we could only order a main or an entree. The table behind us was having entree as we walked in and only got served main 15 mins after we had our main and you told me we could not order a soup for an entree. Please don't tell me you made your soup fresh. But the main was alright, shared platter with different elements. By the way, we didn't even get serve table water ! Disappointed

6 of us visited and 4 chose the top platters. If you have 2 courses you can only choose soup as a starter which 2 did and said was very good. Or choose desserts which is mainly cake based but the scones were so big, we took 2 home. In contrast to Pepper and Salt, the staff were not at all helpful to our diner friend with an onion allergy so she ended up with a cheese salad. Considering the range on the platter that was surprising. My wife tried twice to suggest possible food but it appeared to be too hard. So it detracted from our meals. Lovely setting. Platters were varied with tasty salmon and meats. Nice cheeses and bread.

Reading the reviews on this forum I was happy to try the Lake House restaurant, understanding that it mainly served about 4 different styles of platters. We picked the wine I chose a premium Chardonnay which was good & the gourmet platter for two. Was it worth $112 for two ? I don’t think so. The wait to be served could be described as waiting. I know times are hard atm for staff, let alone good wait staff. We have left already & I’m still waiting to be bought the dessert menu.

Last visited 3-4 years ago before the pandemic. Hasn’t changed which is a good thing. Rustic furnishings and is just by the lake. Great simple food. Enjoyable. Would have been 5/5 if it weren’t for their new addition. The “shed “which houses their shop. They had also advertised a chocolate tasting which caught the kids’ attention. The tasting tray was a selection of their chocs for $5. What marred that experience was the lady manning the store. She was polite but did not seem keen to have us around.
An example was the moment I had selected a packet of chocolate and I was still just holding it in my hand. She immediately rang it up and asked me to settle.
All in all, the shed was an unpleasant experience.

We’ve been to this place several times over a few years. The service has always been quite slow, but the setting has made up for the failings. Today was abysmal. We were served our ‘mains’ well after everyone else at our table had finished theirs. The foods on the platter were not particularly fresh, our drinks arrived just before we were ready to depart. Had to complain/enquire twice as to when we were going to be served. Cost a lot of money for not much value. Certainly won’t be going back, ever.

good service, good wine, but the platters were a complete rip off. It was a busy Sunday, obviously short staffed and short on food stocks. They had obviously nipped down to the local IGA to replenish stock but it was sadly lacking quality. We've been twice before (we live locally and it was very good), this time with a group of friends, we rang ahead and to make sure they weren't too busy, a response of 'yes we can fit you in , no problem'. So disappointing, i feel conned!
