Meet the Business Owner: Miguel- Manuel - Established in 2013 Madeira, a beautiful Portuguese island and inspiration for the atmosphere of the newly opened Bistro 12 in Tarrytown. Life-long friends who have, at long last, created their dream restaurant. Jose Manuel Goncalves Pereira and Luis Miguel Rodrigues have known each other since the age of 17, so it's hardly surprising that Bistro 12 evokes the landscape of their youth. Fans of Caravela will recognize Manuel, nicknamed "MADEIRA" from his 24-year stint there. MIGUEL years at Polpo, the popular upscale Italian restaurant in Greenwich,Connecticut They have created their own unique bistro establishment, given this amiable team the knowledge and skills to provide a warm, welcoming and gracious atmosphere dedicated to providing a genial dining experience for their customers. Miguel Rodrigues' artwork is the product of a life-long passion. You will see memories of his country come alive - the markets, families, city and country scenes he loves. Enjoying a variety of painting styles, he has produced over 1500 works of art in his Yonkers studio, and has chosen the most evocative paintings with which to decorate the walls of his newest venture.

we spent a week in the area in august. This was superb restaurant. Seafood risotto and Salmon are perfect. my daughter also liked crab meat salad with chunks of real crab meat on top of it. Owner is super nice, comes to talk to everyone. We ended going there twice during our stay and enjoyed everything we ate. My daughter ordered a carrot cake for desert and they brought another dessert for us to eat for free.

While visiting New York, we joined our daughter and son in law for dinner at Bistro 12. We arrived for 6pm reservations and were seated at a table by the front window. The dining room is very small but comfortable. The drink order was taken and a loaf of delicious crusty bread was brought to the table with olive oil and fresh butter. We shared an order of Fried Calamari and Burrata with tomatoes. My wife had the beet salad and my son in law had the Lobster Bisque. They were all great starters. For our entrees, my wife had Eggplant Parmigiana, my daughter had Salt Cod with eggs and potatoes, and my son in law and I had the Linguini with Seafood. Each of us loved our choices. We finished up with coffee and shared a carrot cake, chocolate mousse cake and ice cream bomb (tartufo). The whole meal was truly delicious. As for the service, it was spot on. The wait staff was there for our every need and the owner was the epitome of hospitality.

Found this little gem by chance and were thrilled with the food the ambience and the staff. We ordered calamari as an appetizer which was served hot and tender with a spicy marinara sauce. The rustic bread was fresh and tasty and our entrees of braised beef ribs and clams with linguine were served hot with tender pasta and perfect seasoning. The owners went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable happy and entertained. Can’t wait to return!!

The food was not great, overpriced and we felt rushed.
We were in town for a wedding and wanted to go out for a delicious meal - having read all of the stellar reviews we were sold.
Making a reservation was not trivial - we kept calling and finally got through and got a reservation for 8pm. We were hungry and excited… alas, this was not the romantic/lovely experience one expects (especially when the main course ~$40 per dish). The wine choice was very limited and from the get good we felt rushed to order.
We were still optimistic… but the food was sub par. The buratta appetizer was OK, the shrimp appetizer tasted like shrimp that someone just poured canned sauce over.
Mains: What we were served was not home made pasta… the seafood risotto had mostly shrimp and all in all was not great (salty and banal).
Do not recommend.

Not near home, but we stop here often. If you are anywhere near Tarrytown, this is the place to try. The grilled octopus is the best I have ever had. No matter how many times I have ordered, it's cooked to perfection, never chewy, just the right mix of flavors over a lightly dressed bed of greens. The Caldo Verde is exceptional as is the Pork Tenderloin Alentejana with Clams. Recently tried the Portuguese-style salt cod for the first time. If you are a fan of cod and garlic, this is the dish for you. Have tried almost everything and there is not a bad item on the menu. Miguel is an excellent host who at times may regale you with music. He takes the time to get to know you and make the experience of dining special again. The refreshingly leisurely service and intimate setting/atmosphere will be familiar to any of you that have traveled extensively through Europe and the islands.

Find this local gem while we were visiting our kids. A storefront restaurant serving European food.
Just wanted a little bit since we flew in and had a late lunch.
I tried the Grilled Octopus, Garlic /Oil and Escarole and Fried Calamari with Tomato Sauce. Both very good.
My wife ordered the Butternut Squash Soup and the Eggplant Rollatini. She thought the soup was on the light side.
Miguel , the owner who comes from Portugal's Madeira Islands is consistently over seeing the dining room and talking with diners. Even plays the ukulele.
Both very good food and service.

I would rate the food above average but the portion size was small for the prices. I had grilled octopus which was tasty but I would estimate the serving size at 2 oz or less for $18.95 was a bit much for me and I am all about quality vs quantity. The Chicken Francese was excellent and perfectly cooked, but only a single medium cutlet for $26.00. I'll return and try other items.

If you're visiting the Music Hall in Tarrytown this is your spot for an amazing meal directly across the street. We started with the tagliatelle bolognese which was just a as good as that I had in ITALY followed by a fabulous beet salad; our main cause as a nice piece of halibut . The service was a 10 and the dessert a wonderful almond cake finished the meal.

My 95 year old mother and I were walking along the Hudson River when a strong wind picked up. It was 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon and I searched for a restaurant which was available for an early dinner. The reviews were excellent and the Covid protections seemed serious and so we made our way to Bistro 12. We were greeted by one of the owners, Luis Miguel whose warm and attentive manner made our meal memorable. The food was outstanding from the beet salad to the fresh Halibut and remarkable eggplant parmesan. We had the flan and ricotta cheese pistachio cake for dessert with expresso and cappuccino. A fine dessert wine finished off the meal. I can happily recommend Bistro 12 to anyone looking for a special dining experience. We will definitely be returning.

We were charmed by the owners of this small restaurant with an interesting and varied menu, from grilled octopus to braised short ribs. We and our dining companions enjoyed halibut, short ribs, dock confit tagliatelle along with generous glasses of wine. Everything was prepared well and delicious. One of the owners stopped to chat and left us a complimentary dessert wine with instructions to “drink as much as you want.” In an area with lots of restaurants Bistro 12 is a must.

Expertly prepared food, fine presentation and respectful service. We shared a salad, seafood pasta dish, branzino filet and dessert… all delicious and accompanied with a bottle of fine Portuguese wine. Chatted with the owner whose colorful art work adorns the walls. Very friendly and welcoming. Not pretentious with understated elegance. Would travel from Pennsylvania to repeat the experience…Bistro 12 is that enjoyable.

Every single item we ate was delicious... the sweet butter, hot bread, arugula salad, large portion of fresh fish straight from the fish market. We didn't order dessert because we were pleasantly stuffed. The waiter offered to send a dessert free of charge. When we refused he offered us an after dinner drink. When we refused the offer he asked us to come back and leave some room for the delicious desserts. We will return soon and often.
I think we found our spot for a dinner that we count on being fresh and delicious!

Wonderful menu, excellent service, very friendly staff and owners. Can't say enough good about this restaurant.
We had the specials last night - Striped bass with wine and light tomato sauce and capers and Tuna with garlic and olive oil. And, very fresh julienned summer squash perfectly cooked! Did I mention the service?

I found the BEST little restaurant! I just love it and it’s right here in Tarrytown! Bistro 12. You really need to check it out next time you’re in this area. The Salmon is Perfection! Every dish I saw (and smelled) come out of the kitchen was beyond mouthwatering! The staff is amazing and really kind! And the owner is always here. He is incredibly talented. Painted all the paintings on the walls. Plays and sings Happy BDay song on guitar for patrons. It’s a truly special and memorable experience! I travel to anywhere in North America pretty much every week and this is a rare find. Top 10 for sure!
