The sandwiches and salads we had were delicious. The flavor combos were unique such as the burger with peanut butter, bacon, cheese and apple slices. The service however was lackluster. Our waiter was aloof and in some areas poorly informed about the beer choices. Will...More

I was volunteering in the neighborhood and chose the Tap & Mallet for lunch on several occasions. The food is delicious. They offer several tap beers, many craft beers also.

I visited for the first time, after being told how great the place is. I was impressed by the openness of the floor plan and yet there were booths with high back to allow for privacy and conversation without yelling. The wait staff started with...More

We needed a late lunch after a 6+ hour drive and knew that the Tap & Mallet was serving all day. We had a large salad, chicken tacos (3 of them) and a turkey Ruben. This is pub food, nothing special, but tasty and satisfying...More

Our group came here for dinner after work. We had heard very good things about this place. The first problem was that I was served the wrong side dish, but I was ok with that. Next, my burger (ordered it cooked medium) came extremely rare...More

Smoked salmon BLT was very good, aioli was perfect. Here for lunch on a work day so no beer sampled from an amazing list. Very nice wood and brick decor, simple and not overdone with bar kitsch. I must come back.

The Tap & Mallet is owned by Joe McBane and Casey Walpert. Joe is from England, and has lived in the United States since 2000. He managed The Old Toad for the first 7 years he was in the country. Casey opened The Bug Jar on Monroe Avenue and currently owns Mex on Alexander Street.

We aim to be the best destination in Rochester for beer and pub food. We believe that having the best beer requires a balance between freshness and selection. We chose to limit our draft lines to 30 with the addition of 1 cask ale so that a fresh glass of beer can be guaranteed every time. The majority of our lines rotate so that there is always something new to try. Our inspiration for the menu comes from a love for food prepared from top quality fresh ingredients. Whether our guest wants dinner or just a snack they should always expect a range of flavors from around the world at an affordable price.

The atmosphere is that of a contemporary pub. It is comfortable and welcoming to all. There is soft lighting and music that doesn't overwhelm. We want people to feel relaxed and at home.

While we specialize in fine beers we understand that drinking beer is a truly enjoyable social past time. No one should ever feel bad about their choice of drink due to an elitist attitude. Many of our guests are interested in exploring new flavors and we are there to help and encourage them with their selections.
