We had a hard time finding somewhere open for breakfast. The food had a bit of a "New York deli feeling. The restaurant was quite dated and the food was fair. The staff was friendly.

Went to Hal's recently with visiting family. Extremely reasonable and generous portions. We had the following: lean corned beef on rye with mustard- delicious bread and deli mustard made this a familiar favorite. Breakfast all day- the veggie omelette was generous and made well done as qas requested. Sustituted lettuce and tomatoes for potato. Western omelette was delcious and great... More

Frequented here in the '90s as a college student. Not much has changed. Ordered the knish, one plain and one with cheese. Just as yummy as I remembered.

Hal's is supposed to be a traditional NY style deli. I guess you could believe this if you've never been to NY. It is very high fat and, ordinarily, high fat means it tastes good. Not here, though. In addition, the last time I ordered blintzes, they came from the freezer and had been made by a commercial bakery. What... More

Pastrami sandwiches, knishes, where folks go to eat when they want good without fancy. It's been here forever (well, it was a tradition when I arrived 30 years ago!)

This is a place I have at times gone to weekly for years. In my book its beyond a 3, but I am afraid i would raise expectations too much if i gave it above a 3. It definitely features local favorites, and local specialties. They are not fancy inside, and the food isnt gourmet, but the place is family... More

I've had breakfast here a few times when I wasn't in the mood to wait for a table at Lincoln St or State Diner. Their omelettes are decent, but nothing to write home about. The ambiance really depends on your mood: you'll either love the classic college town feel to the place, or it'll strike you as dated and sad.... More

I visit this Deli about 4 times a year and I have never had a bad sandwich, meal or experience here, very friendly folks all around working here and quick service too. Very tasty, well made, sandwiches as well.

I visited some friends at Cornell and they took me to this place for a hungover breakfast! As a pretty active person I eat a lot of fry ups in the morning to get me ready for the day, and here I didn't expect much but my god was it good. I cannot stress how often I have cooked breakfasts... More

This is a no-frills affordable dining experience. The family is very welcoming and remembers their repeat customers, which adds a personal touch. Food is probably the cheapest you will find in Ithaca. Nothing spectacular about the food, but is a great place for breakfast or lunch with friends on a budget.

Thank Brian W
