La Cueva serves outstanding food without all the new-age hippie hype that a lot of places in Taos have migrated towards. The prices are reasonable and again, the food hits the bullseye. We started with the chips/salsa/guac. Cannot go wrong. Guac was some of the best I've had. My daughter had the enchiladas and I had the chimichanga. Both solid... More

I always enjoy good Mexican and while skiing in Taos I found some. I ordered a beef burrito. It was pulled beef as it should be and it was delicious. It came with rice, beans, and fresh pico. This is a small restaurant and we were actually sat in a little dining room outside of the main building which isn't... More

Authentic Mexican cuisine, not to be missed if you are a fan of such and happen to be in Taos. Portions are substantial and inexpensive. My husband and I split an order of taco and enchilada and it was filling! Green chili sauce on enchiladas was outstanding!!

My brother and I went to town for lunch and decided on la Cueva based on the trip advisor ranking....so glad we did! It's a tiny place with approximately 6 tables (more outside on the patio, but it was too cold). The staff was very friendly and the prices were reasonable. I had the combo plate (enchilada, relleno, and taco)... More

Great New Mexican style food! I've been many times (with various groups) and everyone has always loved the food. They can make anything on the menu gluten free, including the Chile Relleno! I love the veggie combo plate, but the specials tend to be really good too!

Nice little find for lunch, we sat on the patio . Waiter was very nice and attentive. You should definitely order the Chiles rellenos!

We visited this spot on the recommendation of a local business owner, and it is spot on. I am still yearning for the tacos I had here. Carnitas. The service was a little bit slow, but they were crowded and realistically, people have unrealistic expectations sometimes about how long it takes to prepare real food, because they don't cook! I... The ONLY authentic Mexican food restaurant in Taos. The mole is awesome and occasionally they have cochinita pibil. The service is genuine and great. I can't recommend enough. The inside seating is quaint, old and cool. The outside seating in the summer is perfect. Location doesn't get better.

Ignore the others, and don't pay any attention to the outside, or even the dust on the walls. You came here to eat, not sleep. You're likely not to venture in, unless someone tells you . . . then it is not to be missed. Sure, it's very small, very old, very dusty, very a lot of things . .... More

But the food was decent as was the value. If you want a Mexican meal, not leave hungry or feel your wallet is lighter and don't mind your surroundings and perhaps a bit of grunge it's probably the best value next to fast food in the valley.
