I was weary today of the typical New Mexican fare so I decided to venture and find something different. El Gamal (the Camel) fit this bill. Its kind of a hippy dippy place where besides food, you can attend meetings on Climate change, relations between peoples of different countries, etc. In other words, they seem to want to change the... This is a little cafe just west of the Taos plaza facing east and has become one of my favorites. Expect a high level of care and quality of freshly made middle eastern foods. The hummus is the best but do try the Samosa with coconut chutney or the Borekas my fave, (tomato walnut) or a falafel sandwich . All... More

Great Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern inspired dishes. Everything on the menu is vegetarian--we didn't even realize at first, because everything looked and sounded so good. We enjoyed all of the dishes that we tried!

creative, tasty, fresh - the perfect meal in the middle of lots of delicious but quite heavy New Mexican cuisine. We loved the soup of the day (tomato with mozzarella), the goat cheese falafel in pita, and the shakshuka. We came back again the next morning for breakfast and can vouch for a delicious cappuccino! Lovely atmosphere and very pleasant... More

Hidden west of the plaza, we never knew about this restaurant despite traveling through or staying in Taos many times. When you enter, you enter a time warp and it is 1970 again. A vegetarian middle eastern restaurant, the menu has falafels, many hummus dishes, very good bagels and other Israeli and Arab dishes. We had very good bagels—claimed to... More

I eat breakfast at El Gamal at least once a week. They serve great Middle Eastern food with several organic options. I am a vegetarian and so is their menu. But don't let that put you off. The fare here is heaty and delicious. Turkish and American coffee are available as well as chai and an assortment of cold drinks.... More

My husband and I love eating at El Gamal when we're out doing errands. It's a funky little oasis that is close to parking, and when you step inside you enter an oasis of great vegetarian food at reasonable prices. The turkish coffee is an excellent way to start or finish any meal. My favorite is the falafel sandwich with... More
