Good atmosphere, nice setting, food with a farm -fresh touch, but limited breakfast menu. In general service was good. Good experience , although a bit pricey

Babylonstoren is a beautiful place to visit with hectares of beautiful vegetable and herb gardens and fruit trees and lots of beautiful items for sale. The Babel restaurant fits perfectly into the scheme of things beautiful simple stylish decor and beautiful stylish fresh food. The plates on the Summer menu are labeled "green", "red" and "yellow" and ingredients match the... More

Amuse bouche: Raw, hairy veg on spikes. I prefer mine cooked and shaved. Bread plate: the most average I've experienced in SA. I don't think Chef cares about bread. Its not something you can dig up. (If you love bread then try Faber at Avondale...) Starter: Beautiful to look at. Perhaps the prettiest plates ever. I had their "yellow". Others... More

Beautiful salad, good bread, lovely wine and the best risotto I have ever eaten. The restaurant is cool and casual and the staff friendly and it's worth waiting to get a reservation because the food is just so nice.

Proudly South-African! What a joyous occassion it was, to finally be able to dine at this lovely restaurant! Stylish decor, excellent and well-informed waiter, Johnathan. He gave rather spot on advice on what to expect, what wine to order& lots of information about the farm and its activities! Our food was delicious-all three courses. Wine by the glass was a... More

The restaurant is located in beautiful surroundings. The atmosphere is easy going, local and very very fine. The service is top-notch (Jonathan is the best!), very chick but down to earth. The starters are vegetables fresh right out of the garden. The quality of the food and wine is incredible. The creativity is shown all over. very recommend! value for... More

Booked well in advance for our wedding anniversary. Told them it was our anniversary when booking but no acknowlegment on the evening. The restaurant decor is very simplistic and rustic. Our waiter, Chester, was an absolute gem, funny, friendly and very professional. There were 3 starters to choose from. My hubby had the red and I had the green. The... More

We arrived very late and asked if we could still have lunch. We were welcomed and accommodated. The food was incredible. All ingredients were from the garden and you could taste the goodness. Beautiful presentation, good portion size and amazing taste.

Hi Lisa Simple, generous and honest is our food philosophy. Fresh, seasonal food that is closely tied to its origins in the garden. Our style of food leans towards simplicity, but we play with unexpected flavour combinations and new varieties of fruit and vegetables in every meal. We are delighted that you experienced this during your visit. Best wishes, Lize... More

We duly booked 2 months beforehand and arrived with great expectations, and were not let down. We asked for an outside table and because we were so early had no problem having one made up. The bread and Oil, the crudités and dip were delicious. I chose the yellow stirring and risotto and husband the green and lamb cutlets .... More

Description
Housed in an old cow shed, Babel is a wonderful mix of Cape Dutch architecture with contemporary glass walls that makes for a simple yet edgy environment in which to try our tasty yet often unconventional combinations. We have a farm-to-fork philosophy, which means we like to serve food that is seasonal and that reflects our "pick, clean and serve" approach. Because our menu is guided by what is available in the garden, our food always reflects the season, and so in summer we may serve you a yellow salad of pineapple, gooseberries, granadillas, yellow tomatoes and apricots while in winter a slow-cooked leg of lamb in red wine is more likely. Dessert subscribes to four flavours, namely salty, bitter, sweet and sour. And while our meals are creative, we don't like to tamper unduly with our food. Our meals are always clear in structure, so that fruit and vegetables gathered daily from the garden is often served with its skin on. Helpings are generous and depending on the weather you can take your meal in the glass-enclosed restaurant or under the plane trees in the courtyard.
