We went to Newark because my wife was born there. We wanted a Portuguese restaurant as we have been to Portugal several times and always enjoyed the food. Coimbra did not disappoint. The service was wonderful, the Portuguese wines very good and the suckling pig excellent. I hope to get back there soon.

This is by far my favorite Portuguese restaurant in Newark or NJ for that matter. Anything I've ever gotten to eat her is delicious and their red wine sangria is awesome. The best part is how affordable they are. If you want no frills, honest to goodness Portuguese food, with very friendly staff, this is the place.

I am speaking from multiple times of eating here. My family always chooses to eat here. We go there about once a month, and we love it every time. The waiters are extremely friendly and always walk around to check on us. If going on a Saturday night or Sunday for lunch make sure to arrive early or make a... More

I have eaten there twice. The food is ok. Nothing special. Stay away from the Bife portuguesa. Which is steak with the egg on top with ham. That was not good at all. So i would suggest to stick with fish or shrimp. Service was ok. There was parking across the street.

Coimbra Restaurant is definitely a great place to eat authentic Portuguese food in the 'Ironbound' area. Having a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon one can tell this is a very popular restaurant. Our party had a number of meal choices. To start off, the vegetable soup was fantastic ! It is not your usual vegetable soup, the broth is... More

I was not aware there was the "ironbound" Portuguese enclave quite close to Newark Airport with several neighborhood restaurants. I'm glad we selected Coimbra and its local experience (with lots of soccer games on the multiple TV's). A bit noisy but people were enjoying themselves. The little necks and sea bass were excellent, but the suckling pig was somewhat bland... More

I go to Coimbra restaurant an average of once a week. I live in the Ironbound, originally from the Iberic peninsula, and I know well most (if not all) of the restaurants in the area. When reading other reviews I was amazed that anyone had anything bad to say about this restaurant. The food is consistently excellent. Salads are fresh,... More

I have had good Portugese inspired meals, and a client picked Coimbra... too bad we did not go 20 years ago. the aging room is ok, the menu sounds great but the shrimp and steak dishes I had were edible but very ordinary...service was far better than the food.
