Two of my friends and I went to Ristorante Massimo for dinner during restaurant week in Portsmouth. I chose this restaurant based on its great reviews and they were correct. The atmosphere was nice - we were seated downstairs in a nice, quieter room at...More

We came during restaurant week for my wife's birthday. The ambulance is tastefully muted with Frank Sinatra type music. Our first course was lobster for my wife and ravioli for me. My wife's second course was scallops and I had the pasta torte. Dessert was...More

Our whole team went for dinner and had a lovely evening with great food and exceptional service. They have a nice wine selection and delicious food. We had several appetizers and I would recommend their meatballs and their cheese tray. I had the veal chop...More

Highly recommended. All seventeen people in our party left feeling they had an outstanding meal. The wait staff, especially Brittany, could not have been more attentive. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

Restaurant is off the main street and tricky to get into. The place is cozy and the place is slightly dated. The staff is amazing. Our server was outstanding. Wish I could remember her name. The fig appetizer was a little weird, meatballs definitely a...More

Honestly, my wife and I didn't expect to find world-class Italian cuisine in New England, where lobster and haddock and clams and oysters and mussels and other freshly caught seafood dominate the menus of most restaurants. But Portsmouth, New Hampshire, covers all bases. Ristorante Massimo...More

I had a lot of difficulty finding something to order in this Italian restaurant. It is a beautiful old house with very friendly attentive service but the menu needs updating. The pastas were unimaginative and there were no veal dishes. My lobster pasta was way...More

While hearing this was top italian in city, walking in was a great atmosphere. Sound levels make the experience starting at a high level. Then Lee, our server, was knowledgeable and attentive. Food, well an experience to enjoy. Roasted carrot salad, ravioli with lobster and...More

This is our anniversary spot and Massimo comes by to say hello every time we're there. It's cozy, romantic and delicious! We have literally never had a bad meal here. You will not regret this stop on your journey through Portsmouth.

Some of the meals come in a smaller size so it really depends on what you order. I think a couple could dine for closer to $100 if having just one glass of wine each. It is a lovely spot.

There's not a dress code, but I think you would want to look dressed up. The place is pretty elegant and I would hate to feel silly in anything less than nice jeans and a dress shirt.
