Looooooovely staff, great coffee and even better raspberry chocolate brownie. I was recommended this place and I am glad I stopped by.

Really not good food. I had the smashed avocado with salmon and poached eggs and it was terrible. Toasted ciabatta was so hard it cut my mouth, stingy with the avo and after paying $20.50 you still had to pay $1.50 for hollandaise. The salmon itself was nice, but not enough to save the overpriced dish. My husbands big breakfast... More

If you're driving on Highway #39 between Hamilton and New Plymouth, by the time you get to Piopio, you're ready for a break. The Fat Pigeon Café was a real find: the food was more innovative than the standard café fare, the coffee was good, the service was friendly. We were there about 11.30 am and by 12.00 it had... When we have passed this cafe previously, it has always appeared to be full. Good sigh, huh? Well this time we decided to stop and we're pleased we did. The selection of food in the cabinets was huge, and there was an extensive menu of other options. It was all generous portions of homemade happiness. The only problem was what... More

The Fat Pigeon is a regular stop for us on the journey from Taranaki to Auckland. There is a good variety of food and great coffee. The staff are obliging and will make your coffee just as you like it even if your request is more unusual. The outside eating area is a bonus and the proximity of the park... More

First disappointment was that there was one savoury scroll left in the cabinet - that was apparently unavailable. Disappointing as it was difficult to find savoury vegetarian in their cabinet. So I ordered an overpriced small hot cross bun ($4 - which would buy a whole half dozen at a bakery). The bun was stale, hard and dried out. Next... More

We had great coffee & nice cabinet food when we stopped here for late lunch on our way home to Taranaki. The smell of the fat fryer is quite off putting tho & it's noticeable the minute you walk in. There are tables outside on the verandah & inside as well. Staff seemed a little vague & disinterested but we... More

Description
The Fat Pigeon is a purposely built cafe brillantly located next to Kara Park at the north end of Piopio. We offer a wide range of freshly made cafe fare, complemented by Ozone coffee. We have cabinet food as well as a board menu. Indoor and outdoor seating plus a play area for the littlies, and a sandpit outside. Possibly the best stopping point on the road to Taranaki.
