The food is family style food but not seasoned very well Big portions if that is your idea of a restaurant. Pie is excellent. Restaurant is crowed tables and no privacy.

GREAT HOME MADE FOOD!! Stopped for evening from Central Illinois to Denton, Texas, glad we did. My wife and I had the $10.99 buffet, being leery of buffet we first walked over to review then made our choice. Food was great, employees very friendly and the warm desserts with ice cream put me over the edge :-] The homemade dinner... More
Stayed in Mt. Vernon, 2 nights, ate here both nights, had the buffet both nights was not disappointed. 1st night fried chicken, catfish, spaghetti, salad, soups, corn bread, bread pudding and berry pie all included in buffet price $9.99. 2nd night spaghetti changed for tacos, enchiladas, tamale pie. (Could still get fried chicken and catfish) Can go back numerous times.... More
People are very friendly. Wonderful cinnamon rolls. Huge! Filled up a whole styrofoam to go box. They warmed it up for me even before I left to eat on the road. EXCELLENT!
We are from Springfield, Mo. so we never eat in mt. Vernon, but today we met a friend from Texas who was in the area and had visited this restaurant in the past. A hidden unknown treasure to us. It was excellent , we had the buffet with all homemade good southern cooking, all was very good, I enjoyed the... More
My husband and I had the buffet. You get a salad bar, 3 types of soup, multiple desserts, 3 types of vegetables. There was ham, turkey catfish. We were there on the day before Thanksgiving so I think the food was geared more towards the holiday. All the food was very good. I especially liked the potato soup, carrots and... More
What the food lacks in real flavor, they try to make up with insanely large portions. I have eaten there three times in a six month period, ordered different things every time, and have never had a good experience. The wait staff is not very friendly or attentive, and I think they are under staffed for how big the operation... More
Wonderful food, great service and a charming place to sit and chat. We had catfish and chicken fried steak and it was superb. We took half of it with us. The cornbread is some of the best I've had. The desserts look incredible but we didn't have room for any.
I have visited several times and it just is too unpredictable. Sometimes the food is good, other times horrible. The service is usually not the best on any given day. To me it's not worth stopping in because you just don't know what you're going to get that day. The prices are too high for the quality of food they... More
