Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My pick for best breakfast and good coffee. Menu limited but enticing. Good daily specials. Eggs Benedict great. Housemade sauce. Great. Eggs runny which blended beautifully with sauce. Agree with Jacque sliced local leg ham is best combo. Ingredients limited at moment but Island makes the best of what they have to hand. Fresh field mushrooms on toast following rain was a real treat. Coffee good. 4 out of 7 breakfasts here and a couple of good lunches. Soups great and best toasted HC&T I have had in years. Real thinly sliced ham, tasty cheese and rich ripe tomato. Toasted with real butter. Wife loved lentil soup. Did not try it myself. Good honest cafe. Good honest people. Thanks Jack, and Caz for looking after us. Our home kitchen on Norfolk.

Lovely, quiet, secluded cafe just off the Main Street. We only had a cappuccino but the cakes looked fresh and well made and we liked the lush garden setting. We wished we had found the cafe at the start of our holiday, not on the last morning

This cafe doesn’t have any books so forget that part. We just had toasted sandwiches and they took about 1/2 hour to arrive. Staff seemed to be on serious island time!. Nice spot outside in garden

In a time when the island is having issues, this place was finally open for a few days, late in the week. Coming in at 10:20 am, I did expect to be able to order something more than the cake and croissant in the display case. No "breakfast is over" and "lunch starts at . . ." then when I did order a ham and cheese item , it was burnt on top.

When we arrived I asked a guy what was the best coffee shop on the island. His reply: "Spread the love they are all good!" OK well we did. Others will no doubt have other opinions but indeed all the coffee shops were very good. We did however like the golden Orb the best....for their great coffees and especially their fresh blueberry muffins every morning. (Still trying to get the muffin weight off, now we are home). They had an interesting lunch menu but the new dish "Thai beef Salad" was good but the flavour for normal Thai beef salad was missing. Otherwise 5/5.

We had lunch here on a busy Saturday. The cafe is in a lovely garden setting, which is surprisingly quiet given the entrance is off the Main Street. It is named from the massive webs and spiders, but don’t worry, there are not spiders crawling around the place! Service was prompt, plenty of menu choices as well as a specials board. Lots of GF options. The food was all fresh, local produce and was beautifully prepared and presented. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. Excellent range of teas and herbal teas which you don’t always find. Prices standard for Norfolk Island, nothing is cheap but that is to be expected. We will go here again.

Hidden behind the front row of shops this café is a real gem. Verandah dining among the trees in the bushland quiet is a real treat5. Of all the items on the menu the only choice is there home made pies. Tall and filled, they are delicious. Highly recommended

If you stay in Aloha Apartments, it is a very short stroll across the road to Golden Orb. A lovely feel and setting about the place, with lots of timber used inside and a lovely shaded garden courtyard outside. I had one of the breakfast specials on offer, shakshouka, which was cooked to perfection and with the richness of the tomato, the portion size was just right. Mum had her usual poached eggs on toast (sans bacon on this occasion) and commented “Now that’s what I wanted!” The yolks were deliciously runny and all of the white was nice and solid, no uncooked white. Coffee order came out quickly and was delicious. Will definitely be back before we leave.

We ate at the Golden Orb Cafe a couple of times for breakfast whilst on Norfolk Island. The menu was extensive and the pancakes were our favourite dish. The Cafe is down a side alley in the Main Street of Burnt Pines with a big sign at the entrance which you can't miss. Very nice setting either inside or out. We found the staff friendly and very efficient, the prices a little higher than other places we ate, only down side was the opening hours. Closed Monday and Tuesday then until. 1.30pm Wednesday to Friday and even earlier on a Sunday. Not sure for the reason as most of the businesses in Burnt Pine close very early there were many tourists in the 8 days we were on the island, maybe a staff shortage! It's certainly worth a visit as there seemed to be many locals popping in whilst we we there.

We went to the Golden Orb twice. First time was for breakfast and it was pretty good, and their coffee was good. I also had toasted coconut bread to try the local delicacy and it was great. Staff not overly friendly though, they didn't seem to be enjoying their jobs. The second time was for coffee and we had a really long wait - 30 minutes - just for two coffees. No apology given for the wait. It's a nice location for the cafe but what also lost them points is they allow smoking outside but the smokers table is right underneath the open windows of the cafe above and the smoke drifted in. That was really unpleasant and we didn't go back to the cafe for the rest of our trip.

Golden Orb was our favourite cafe on Norfolk. Good coffee, great food (we ate there twice for lunch) and wonderful owner. It's not open early in the week, and like maost cafes shuts around 2pm.

A Melbourne style café tucked away down a beautiful leafy laneway. Recommend the eggs benny and the coffee is beautiful. Most milk options are offered here and the food is mainly locally sourced. A short stroll after the Sunday market for breakfast - you wont be disappointed

What a beautiful cafe found down amongst the sub tropical gardens! The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was sensational. The chicken and veggie soup with sour dough toast was lovely. Other diners had the steak sandwich, cheese burger and seafood crepe - they all looked devine and reports were they were very very good. Reasonable prices too. My soup and a cup of peppermint tea was $20. Thanks Golden Orb Cafe!

Our final day of our week-long trip to Norfolk Island saw us pop into this cafe for breakfast but it turned into so much more! Our meal was very good but it was the group of local weavers who caught our attention. I went over to get a closer look at their work and was promptly invited to join them and given some pandanus to start plaiting. It was a friendly atmosphere and we chatted away sharing stories while plaiting/weaving. The group meet there every Wednesday morning and welcome the interest of others. I’m so glad we chose that day to stop in for breakfast! A lovely way to finish our holiday. Good service and friendly staff plus delicious food!

We chose a different cafe per day until we found the one we loved, and The Golden Orb was our pick! The service outstanding, and the variety of slices on offer were insanely tasty. Went back for more! And the coffee was my favourite. Great idea to have a bookstore incorporated into the cafe.
