Can I just say how much I love this place? After hearing great reviews from those living in Columbus Park and friends traveling from the suburbs to visit, I knew I had to make a trip. Girlfriends in tow, I made my way on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. The café has such a great ambience -- it... More

We saw this place on DDD. It's the sort of place that you'd expect to see on that show- a small neighborhood diner with a sophisticated menu. We had breakfast here and it was superb. I had the green eggs and ham (pesto) and the Wife had the Breakfast sandwich. We definitely want to try lunch here the next time... More

We stopped by here for lunch one day on our way home from errands. The neighborhood is so picturesque with lots of historic buildings. It was easy to find street parking nearby. There were several outdoor tables on the sidewalk in the shade, but we opted to eat indoors. Orders are placed at the counter, then brought to your table... More

First let me say, "Redeye Gravy & Grits" perfectly cooked grits, with shreds of country ham, very thin sliced pickled celery for a little acidity. Topped with "corn nuts" which had the most perfectly little crunch. You also get a soft egg on the side. Biscuits and gravy are simply perfect, as is the huge breakfast sandwich. This couple offers... More

We spent most of our time in a completely different part of KC so when the GPS took us here we were completely confused as to where we were. It was hidden in a little neighborhood that seems to be becoming re-established. In any event, the food was great and exactly the right size. I got the half portion of... More

I love having breakfast at Happy Gillis because I have food there that exist nowhere else. Their take on everyday items that turn into culinary delights is a treasure every time we go. Do yourself a big favor and go there and try something new.

Happy Gillis ferments their own kimchi, and uses the leftover juices to make kimchi bloody marys, which are divine. I'm not a huge fan of bloody marys but I loved them. I also ordered biscuits and gravy which were very good. The atmosphere is another reason to come here, and they are a business that truly supports local.

We LOVE Happy Gillis. Great food from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere, and warm, friendly people. Luscious recipes, beautifully prepared with a deft hand. Unexpectedly rich flavors, and in an atmosphere that invites you to linger over coffee and conversation. This is what breakfast is meant to be. It's perfect.

I am so glad Farmhouse was had the doors locked even with the open sign on so that we went in search of our second choice (only bc it was farther away) Happy Gillis! Such a great little place! We lucked out in our timing and got ordered and found a place to seat right away. Really cute quirky place... More
